1) No, I would not think they are fake. I trust fossils far more than books which are open to misinterpretation and misrepresentation. Recognising, of course, that the study of the fossil in question may be flawed.
2) I'd accept that it was the time for me to die, however that would not stop me going to a doctor - I am scared of death, I don't deny it. But I wouldn't pray, because I don't believe there is anything beyond this life.

What is interesting is that the examples used to say something negative about religion are the false examples of religion. The tv preachers and westboro baptist church are not good examples of religion. I go to a church that is widespread through Colorado and we do good things for people (donations to the homeless, haiti, missions trips, etc.) That is the real church. The one that does good for the world, not the people who spread hate.

What all of this comes down to is the fact that people look at the Bible with the idea that it is non-fiction or that it has historical relevance. That is the problem. If we separate people from the idea that the Bible is a credible source of historical knowledge then we fix the problem. We also need to uphold the Separation of Church and State. Keep God out of government. All in all I think people in general are far too stupid to change any of this.

In terms of the bible, I think that America probably isn't perfect. But a lot of Christians are perfectly aware of their sins and ask for forgiveness, isn't that enough?
