And to MsChinkyEyesFine the X7 is or was around $2700 but has since been outdated by the Roland Fantom G series which is just slightly higher with lots of nice extras thrown in.

Well man, don't you fell like you're kinda answering your own questions?

The Axiom is what it is, a midi controller... No presets, no sounds, nothing but MIDI data (notes, control changes, etc...)

The Fantom has all that and way more... Massively expansive synthesis, midi blah blah blah, good presets, better editing, virtual in-console mixing and all that great shit....

If you have a good host recording situation (logic or Pro Tools ideally) then you're set with the Axiom, if not.... Fantom

Roland is loaded with great drum kits, especially for hip hop with their classic 808, 909, kicks. I have a fantom x, look a little harder kyle and you will find some outstanding kicks. Roland has arguably produced the standard for great hip hop sounds!

honestly protools is by far the best recoridng software to use...if you know what your doing...mostly all professional musicians use it...i'm looking to get the Yamaha Motif XS-8...i'm a yamaha guy but both keyboards will get the job done for music wise

honestly pro-tools isnt that great...its lacking in th midi department. TThe interface can use some help as well, cubase has it beat there. As far as mixing and editing aduio...i would say that it is the best for those purposes.

I really don't like protools. I use Cubase and I find it much more user friendly to work with. The only reason I would get Protools is if I had a big ssl analogue console. Protools is highly compatible with ssl consoles whereas Cubase isn't (as much or in some cases, at all). I think this is why most professional musicians use it.

Unfortunately I will have to use it in the future because most commercial studio's are equipped with Protools

I study Music Production is this commercial studio near my house. There are two instructors/producers there. I asked both separately what they prefer to use. The older guy said protools sitting behind his ssl. The younger guy said Cubase sitting behind his cubase setup with a tascam 24 automated faders console.. Maybe it's a generation thing :)
