The AFG was built to enhance a specific shooting style. If you do not use that style or do not use the AFG in the manner in which it was designed it will not aid your shooting. What is your experience or frame of reference with actual weapons and / or the AFG?
I very much like it. It isn't the best pure compensator but it handles flash, blast and noise better than any other "hybrid" type of compensator. Now if you compare it to a pure flash hider, it does not compare, but again it is classified as a compensator and not a flash hider.
Gotcha, I've read some good stuff about it and it seems to help with keeping the gun very flat while shooting, not that the AR platform kicks a lot anyway but it supposedly help tame it even more. Very nice rifle by the way!
@ssdsurf yea i also love fixed delta front sights, like the strength of the pinned instead of screwed on., thats why i recommended the ris2 mk18 front sight post version., believe it or not, the ris2 is veryyy narrow/slim, i was amazed., its really just as slim as a tube style handguard., jus sayin, looks like you def got shit figured out anyways., jus recommending to check out the DD ris2 FSP version., cheers
@ssdsurf ahh i see now., i thought it was the cqb single point, same clasps it looks ., where did you get the hooks?., id rather do it that was too cause i really like the vickers too, but i need the hooks also cause im runnin the cqb endplate and rail mounted sling loop..,what buffer are you running?? h2 ? again cant say enough bout this rifle man, im def jealous., check my channel outtoo man if you get some time., im ex army., and jus compiled all of the best gun reviews and gear vids..Cpl Ent
It is a carbine length gas system with a 10.3" MK18 barrel as mentioned in another comment. Technically it is a carbine as per the true definition of what constitutes a carbine rifle. The SBR or Short Barreled Rifle is simply a designation that came about from the National Firearms Act, which placed mandatory registration and excise taxation for any rifle with a barrel under 16" or overall length under 26". Again it is a carbine that falls under the SBR regulations.
@bhouse1545 You dont need to SBR when your FULL AUTO>>>> you can put whatever you want on a select fire lower without a tax stamp :)., i kno i kno., lifes not fair :)
Sweet sbr man, after reading your comments I have to agree, please make a Gun painting video with your techniques you used, but for now can you tell me what kind of paint did you use?
The entire rifle is painted in a base coat of OD green. I then layer the "Tiger Stripe" pattern over the OD. For the Tiger Stripe I use browns, Khaki and foliage green colors. The rifle was painted about a year and about 15K rounds prior to that video, so the paint finish is worn in pretty well. This was the rifle when first painted. Remove the spaces in the link h t t p : / / s225. photobucket . com/albums/dd60/SSDSurf/Guns/?action=view¤t=IMG_39321.jpg
correct me if im wrong, but isnt this a select-fire lower?? i think ive seen it on arfcom and it has what could be considered a VERY expensive upgrade hahaha !!! def gets 5 stars from me
Glad you like it. I do many different finishes and camo jobs. I find that the subdued greens with lighter over colors blend better in most of North America, including desert areas like in Arizona etc...
Have you thought of making a video on HOW TO CAMO...I think that it would be very instructional especially given your unusual approach towards BLENDING colors and creating a SUBDUED product!
Yes I have planned on doing a camo / finishing video as well as some magazine and grip texture video's but my schedule is extremely busy right now. I actually have a few raw video's that I haven't had the time to put together and post. Perhaps when things slow down for me I will get to them. Thanks for the interest!
Glad you liked the review. There are a good number of people who wrap the index finger in front. It is the proper way to do it IMO. Also the primary trainer and a former primary trainer for Magpul both adopted use the AFG in this manner. :)
We need to understand what is the purpose of the weapon. This is an up close CQB type of rifle. At close distance terminal ballistics is not an issue. Even out beyond 100 yards and out to the distance where the 5.56 will not reliably fragment from this barrel length, I would still not want to get hit by this round out of this barrel. It will shoot reliably out to 450 yards. Again these types of rifles serve a specific purpose.
@Armand1694 the main loss SBR suffer unlike longer variants is velocity. with a shorter barrel the pressure of the gas has less time to influence the round traveling down the barrel. with the loss in velocity comes a subsequent loss of effective range. and to acknowledge a fundamental point of ssdsurf, SBRs are not intended for long range nail driving (not saying it cannot be done, but that is not the design intention). SBRs are designed for door kicking and other close quarter scenarios
The front of an AFG acts as a hand stop as well as my thumb over "C" clamp grip behind the FSP will pretty much negate my hand moving any further forward. However I do suggest that you do whatever your level of skill, equipment and training makes you comfortable with. BTW, it is a 10.3" barrel.
Do you find the heat generated in that area gives you a problem? I hold my AR the same way and one day I fucked up and my index finger touched the barrel... ouch!!!
I often wear gloves, but even without gloves the heat with these rails and rail covers are not that bad. These rails also extend past the front sight post so I don't get my hands on that part of the barrel. Usually most people only burn themselves once or twice on a barrel and tend not to do it again. :)
I bought a few myself for in case they cease production, but that is one sweet looking piece at the end of that barrel.

They are called HK style hooks, several sources stock them. The rifle runs great with the standard H buffer.
