@MovinRightAlong91 You asked 2 months ago but don't know if you ever got an answer. This was a running gag that lasted the whole week (believe it was four shows). Matthew Broderick did it the next night and then Diana Ross. Ross was promoting a cover of "I Will Survive" so she sang that. The rest by her was the same except for the fact that the men replaced women outside the theater and in the massage parlor.

@MovinRightAlong91 Why? Lot of reasons, but it probably came down to someone (Lane himself, the writers, Letterman, etc.) just thought it was amusing to repeat the song since it's something right up Lane's alley. It was and it continued, as I stated, for the week.

If I remember correctly, these aired about eight or ten years ago. They aired on the same week. This bit was actually performed by Rosie O'Donell and Diana Ross as well, on back-to-back-to-back-to-back nights. I'm trying to remember if there was a fifth person performing this that week. Diana Ross had a different song though (I will survive) As a matter of fact, I think it was on the week after her HalfTime SuperBowl performance.
