  • GROSS

  • Before anybody comments on this single performance....Please listen to his performance on "VH1 Rock Honors"...It made me want to hear it over and over again..cause I loved the sound of his voice. Being a music lover myself,I listen to the melody..:)

  • Thank you pearl jam, I always knew the who but only really discovered their music after seeing the cover and wanting to hear the original stuff.

  • Awesome!!

  • I don't know if this is the audio quality or what, but this cover sucks. This is an insult to The Who.

  • Bloody amazing, you can see how eddie is putting hes all into it.

    Great video benjamin man!!!

  • Damn.. if only The Who could yoink eddie's gravlyness and power :(

  • This is a great cover, dude. Eddie Vedder has been a die hard The Who fan for ages. This was the first time they played it live AND I WAS THERE! Gig of my life, no doubt.

  • thats 2 bad the gig of your life has passed

  • REIGN ON ME!!!!!

  • NO DOUBT,EddiE is no less than GOD!

  • No, Eddie sang this masterpiece really good, but there is no man or woman that could beat Daltrey.l T&his is the song that proves, Roger is one of the greatest rock singers of all time.

  • Thats for sure what honours the WHO most- a cover that shows theor power will never end. Respect to pearl jam!

  • Pearl Jam... they love music obviously. I always see people judging the covers they decide to play. In playing the song(very well for that matter) someone WHO knows nothing of the WHO may now discover the band. You see, one thing Pearl Jam has done throughout their career is made their fans...fans of others.

Not to mention this was the first place the song was played live(very cool). The WHO also was a big influence of a lot of todays rock.

I must say Pearl Jam is a class act pure energy

  • You guy just don't get it.....It's NOT a competition. ED and PJ are HONOURING The Who....not trying to better it. I personally think they nailed it like very few IF ANYONE ELSE could.

  • What the heck is everyone sayin!!! I mean seriosly this guy has and amazing voice for this song. It may be blasphemy but i kinda think he does it better than Roger...

  • noone can do it better than roger, celtic if u listen to them both the who is way better, pearl jam is great but in my opinion noone compares to the except for maybe led zeppelin

  • Good to see someone is giving a good tribute to the legend that is The who

  • Pearl Jam is freakin cool man. Love them!

  • Sorry Eddie, I love Pearl Jam but this is not your forte.

  • I feel privileged to live in the same time as PJ and that about sums it up.

  • Uh hey Zebra, Pete doesn't sing the original. Roger Daltrey does. You might want to learn some rock and roll history stupid ass. Oh, and Pearl Jam is singing a WHO SONG. Don't forget it little man.

  • I was there. It was a great moment. The sound wasn't too good but it never is in Forum. Watching this brings back memories. I don't hope it takes too long before they come back to play in Denmark again.

  • It's got nothing to do with who does it better ... Eddie loves Pete like a father, and his version comes from deep in the heart and soul. Enjoy it for what it is intended ... a tribute.

  • This is true, but, just generally speaking, the Pearl Jam Version is way better, haha.

  • Nah, it's utter crap. Sorry. They're great, but their cover fails.

  • How, in perfect health, could you even think that? The Who might be the shit and everything, but this cover is just flat out better than The Who's rendition. Like, in every way. I love The Who just as much as the next guy, but come on, Pete's voice just doesn't have any emotion behind it.

  • He certainly does have emotion behind it. As well, he can sing, unlike Pearl Jam in this performance.

  • This performance of this song hardly does this rendition justice I concur.

  • Agreed. No one can match The Who. You'd think that bands would know by now not to mess with perfection. And how about that wanker Fred Durst trying to cover Behind Blue Eyes? What rubbish! American bands should stop trying to be The Who and come up with their own hits!

  • But this is an awesome cover btw fred durst sucks and pearljam is a great band that has came out with plenty of classics

  • I don't care what anybody says, I think Eddie Vedder has an amazing voice. It seems like there is so much passion put into it, and despite popular belief, I think his voice is better for this song than The Who. Don't get me wrong, I love me some The Who, but I have to be honest when it comes to this song. Pearl Jam is one of the few mainstream bands around today that I'll go out of my way to listen to.

  • Liked everything you said and agree...But PJ is not a mainstream band. By "current" standard mainstream to me means shit, such as all the emo boy faggit bands...Pearl Jam are more like veterans of the music today. They stay true to their roots, put on every show for the fans the best they can, and make music that doesn't suck, lol.

  • Hahaha, yeah, well what I meant was everybody knows about Pearl Jam. A bunch of people on here were talking about how nobody knows about them, but that's not true at all, haha. Then again, I was born and raised and still live in Seattle.

  • Haha ya...Tho you know I'm sure there are so many incredible bands from that time. Shame that "more" people don't know about em currently instead of the trash coming out of the radios today. But I do agree with you the Pearl Jam version is much better.

  • Honestly, I don't listen to the radio at all anymore. I listen to bands like Tapes n' Tapes and Dr. Dog and Man Man.

  • i too believe that this is an amazing cover

i like it better the original

  • Not quite what I'm used to hearing/playing, but the emotion is certainly there.

Kudo's to PJ for pulling off a tough song without copying note for note.

    Interesting:)

  • The original by "The Who" is better, but Eddie Vedder is an excellent singer.

  • I cant agree more with you I just think that the vocals of Eddie are better, you know for my taste a little stronger he makes you feel what he's singing. But certanly there're parts where there's just 2 much music it gets a little Loud!.. Rock On man!

  • i thought the orignal verison by the who was better but this was good

  • this song gives me the chills.

  • I know!

    amazing emotion.

  • I love it when Eddie screams. Powerful and full of emotion.

    Anyway, this cover kicks ass.

  • who is playing the keyboards?

  • boom gasper is the organist so i asume that he is playing the keyboards

  • How lucky they are to have ex-SOundgarden's drummer. He adds so much to their sound. The guitar-strumming is kind of overkill for me on this song. The powerful one-note descending pattern is what makes this song, and Stone down-plays it by making it secondary to his strumming. Ament is such a one-dimensional bassist; not groovy enough.

  • not groovy enough?

    guitar strumming kind of overkill?

you need to check yourself bro

this is one of the best covers ever done

way better than the original and this band is the shit. I see no flaws in there performance at all...

  • that song is amazing pearl jam is the best and i am just going to go out on a limb and say that they weren't dancing around is because it was a really powerful song lyricly and not the kind of song you jump around to but pearl jam does jump around and get into some of there songs and you will see that if you watch do the evalution live especially live at the garden because the almost rock threw the stage so try that and then comment on pearl jam looking board when they perform

  • This is not Pearl Jam song this song is song by Pete Townshend from The Who

  • ya dude this songs like 35 years old, originally done by the who, last song on their quadrophenia album.

  • i know that pearl jam didn't do this song originally i just stated that they did a real good job with it. . as well as with Bab o riley which is also a who cover that pearl jam does.

  • Eddie Vedder's voice is Powerful, you feel his energy and passion the best way i can explain it is like his voice gets you high.

    Pearl Jam Rocks

  • POWER that's what I feel when I hear this song, this band. Fantastic, specially when you were there. It's the feeling you get. Thanks for sharing

  • dude, you don't get it..... real music is not about dancing around like a bunch of fruiters.... if you want that go see some crappy emo band. if you want the best music performed by a group of great musicians, go see pearl jam. the energy is in the music. Question... are you a musician? because i am, and it is hard to dance around when playing anything more complex than your average green day song. just saying....

  • you're a muso? wow, tell me more about yourself because I really fuckin care.

get over yourselves kids, all of you. Hey, I got an idea, why don't we all have an opinion and not argue about something that's an individual's point of view. Where did you pull that Good Charlotte and Creed shit from?

  • guys, i said nothing about creed or good charlotte; both bands are horrible. i listen to the beatles, lynyrd skynyrd, the allman bros., alice in chains, and plenty of other rock bands. i'm just saying that pearl jam looks positively bored live. it is a fantastic song and they do sound better than the who when they play it, but there's no umph in it.

  • they're sort of old and all...check out some of their live videos on here from the early 90s. THAT is why they got famous. the fact that they're still up putting on high quality shows is amazing after all these years. they're obviously not all gonna go nuts like they did when they were younger, but man, they're something to see still.

  • you must be seeing something that no one else sees. i've been to 5 of their shows, and they have been nothing but awesome. i have also been to many other bands shows, and i can say as a musician that they are a better live band than almost anyone out there. and if you don't like them why are you listening. go back to listening to good charlotte and creed asshole.

  • ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH YOU MAN!

  • i ll make your words mine.

  • Yeah i agree with the guy who commented above, your fucking nuts, they are the best band out of the 90's 1st of all and all their live shit is almost better then their studio shit, They are also like 40 years old so cut them some slack for the lack of energy but you should check out their Live at Madisson garden dvd, that may change your mind, but if your a creed n good charlote fan then your on the wrong video, cus those band are terrible and this is just greatness!

  • Reign o'er me! The best!!

  • they did an awesome job. they did The Who song justice.

  • Wow. What a great song. Drop me a line.

  • wow i didn't think he could pull it off this well live. even as a HUGE pj fan i had a bit of doubt. i guess i was wrong.

  • dude thi song is the best one ever ...... i love it it's fuckin' awsome

  • Eddie Vedder has the greatest voice I have ever heard. No one can compare to it. I love Pearl Jam and they rock at this song!

  • Roger Daltry still sings this song best, but Eddie is up to the task indeed!

  • I Was There

  • You lucky bastard

  • I thought they would butch it big time , but they do it really great.

  • U2 put a black cloud of doom on our way of life.

  • this is what R & R is all about

  • Heart's version kicks ass too

  • well he dosnt perform very good of it right now but yes.. its a first time and he is tired or cold? but that studio version is so damn cool..

  • sweet, thanks for uploading this.

  • I saw this live in copenhagen! The hole concert was magic

  • I absolutely love this performance, but I don't think anyone can do it better than the original. Still, this is easily the best cover.

  • I wonder why Pearl Jam waited this long to play/cover Reign for so long...it fits them completely.

  • Great performance. I`m a big fan of The Who, but I actually think that Eddie sings this better. More power in his voice. Pearl Jam = Worlds greatest

  • that put chills down the back of my neck, that was an amazing performance

  • ed is god right here....

  • Cool!

  • nice.

  • great version of pearl jam, but the who wrote the song really the who`s version ist a fucking amazing, me favorite band is pearl jam but pete playing guitar and roger screaming and perfomance pretty cool. and the offspring nice punk rock band thats all

  • i like the pearl jam version just as much the the who's version, maybe a bit more

  • this is horrible compared to THE WHO's version. there dumb man. u cant compare one of the best bands in the world to this gay shit

  • This coming from someone called "OFFSPRINGRULEZZ"

    HA!

  • LOL! Yeah it can't hold a candle to "pretty fly for a white guy" right?

  • ya and THE WHO is my favorite band and offspring is my second. that doesnt matter. thats not the f-in point

  • Pearl Jam is way better than The Who.They have played many more concerts than them, and gained more fans without radio or t.v play.Pearl Jam like The Who alot though.I shouldn't let your lame opinions bother me.Pearl Jam is the most important band in the world at this point.

  • The Who is a freakin 60s band. NO there one of the best classic rock bands in the world. u people have problems. dont even bother talking to me. PLEASE

  • the stop posting in this video. Pearl Jam is the best live band ever!

  • then*

    edit

  • Let's not go that far.

The Who is/was an amazing band. If it wasn't for them, Pearl Jam wouldn't be around.

  • I'm sure P.J would be around if there wasn't any Who.They just wouldn't play any Who songs because there would not be any.I said what I did about being important because Pearl Jam ,U2,and Neil Young are the only bands brave enough to speak out on global political issues that are putting a black cloud of doom on our way of life.-----Peace--------

  • Well considering how The Who inspired Ed to be singer...

  • This is a great video

  • yeah !!!! gracias por este video !!!

  • Fantastisk koncert

  • Pearl Jam var ganske enkelt fantastiske..

Nogen der ved, hvad den sang Eddie spillede før Futureheads gik på, hedder? Og den sang, der var omkring krig?

  • Throw your Arms Around Me og No More
