Right off the HKS website: Additional triple-fin inserts are available in gold ('STANDARD' high frequency sound) for visual appeal and in purple metallic (emits a lower frequency sound than both the standard and gold inserts) for an ALTERNATE SOUND and appearance. It's the same high frequency sound that the silver makes. I have all three inserts and the silver and gold are exactly the same.

I have the HKS BOV in my BMW 335. it cam with the silver fin. My brother happened to have the gold and purple fin laying around from his turbo civic he sold. the purple is by far the meanest loudest fin out of all 3. the gold id is the worst.

There has to be a difference in sound or otherwise Hks wouldnt make just a gold plated insert. If the music wasnt so damn loud for those of us who has oem silver inserts the gold is a little higher pitched .

It's the exact same pitch/noise - even HKS themselves state this. I've compared a gold/silver insert and they are identical in dimension - purple is quieter, gold/silver are the same. No idea why they chose to do it.
