  • What causes the spinning?

  • @HardKore5250 I think that the heater is with a magnet inside

  • 18-crown-6 has a particularly high affinity for potassium ions...

  • I hope you were going to use this for something otherwise what a waste of benzene

  • Benzene isn't that toxic.. The junk (poly aromatics, formaldehyde, and so on) that is inhalatet when you smoke a sigaret is even more toxic or carcinogen, and the exposure is much bigger.

  • @Hydroxybenzeen thats one of the biggest fails in spelling ive ever seen.

  • Which is more toxic...18-crown-6 or benzene?

  • Horrible music

  • yo guys, i could use some feed back on my vids. could you check 'em out?

  • Love your videos : D Please sub to me : D

  • wow that's a lo of benzene

  • .Boy I do hope you're doing this in a hood...those are some rather toxic chemicals...Nice demonstration though,

  • Host Guest Chemistry at work.

[18]Crown-6 acts as a macrocyclic host which selectivity binds well with potassium ion K+ via cation-dipole electrostatic interaction with the oxygen donor atoms.

Crown ethers can be used as a phase transfer catalyst.

  • benzene and crown ether :D and ofc kmno4.. ^^

  • Does anybody know what this song is?

PS - crown ethers are badass

  • What's the name of this complex?

  • It's just an 18-crown-6/potassium chelate complex. BTW, crown ethers cause testicular atrophy a.k.a males can become sterile using this stuff. Me and my adviser stayed away from crown ethers during graduate school for this reason.

  • i love how it spins and created a spiral in the water

  • benzene is used in napalm b lo

  • where do you buy benzene?

  • acros or any of the thousand other chemical suppliers. Although you won't be able to order anything unless you're a recognized company instead of an individual

  • oh ok

  • love the groovy music...

also i always had the impression that benzene was orange/brown

  • Arequipa, Perú? Saludos desde Colombia.

hahahaha, Bury the hatchet, ChemToddler... and that's a nice demonstration of a phase-transfer catalyst.

  • isn't benzene highly toxic?

  • Benzene is toxic. It is a known carcinogen. Also it is not disputed that exposure can/ will lead to leukemia. This being said, I have had it on my hands and smelled its vapors many times as it was used as a solvent for printing ink up until 1979 or'80. My exposure was in printing classes in jr high through college. I'm well into my 40's and doing fine.

  • Yep. Benzene is very bad. It can intercolate in your DNA through pi stacking van der waals forces or get oxidized into an epoxide which reacts as an electrophile with your DNA ...all courtesy of our friend, cytochrome P450. A detox enzyme that sometimes does more harm than good.
