Ummm....what?? Peekskill wasn't the ones trying to do the project, that was NYSDOT,. But no matter, this building SHOULD have been saved. Moving forward is good and necessary, but not at the cost of losing and ignoring history. Peekskill suffered a great loss when this building fell, I hope you can see that.
I care my ancestors have been in peekskill since 1849. And were masons and brick makers. Some people are educated, care about history and dont have much food either.. The food bank wasnt destroied ..give it a shot!
All the effort being made by the NYSDOT to preserve a pile of bricks just shows how corrupt and obsurd the Vampire State is. What a waste of tax money...the state should have just given that hardup city of Peekskill the ca$h.
not really sure what to say to your comment - except that I don't give a shit who does it - the building is historically significant and must be saved. Either way it will be done with tax money whether at the federal, state or local level - so I'm sorry but I don't follow what difference it makes....
The difference is that there's been hungry people in Peekskill since the dutch landed. Who in that hovel really gives a damn about an "historically significant" pile o' bricks, huh? Give the people tax bread...that they can eat. BTW, I enjoy the choo-choo flix.
So now we have hungry people in peekskill who have lost their historical landmark and now have NOTHING to show for it - way to go NYS - maybe better qualified and better trained workers would have prevented such a tragedy....
My guess - negligence is a factor, I don't buy that the jack just "failed" - doubt it.....
What the "hungry people in peekskill" need is for the NYSDOT to stop screwin' round with non-road building diversions and plow that Route 9 Expressway through town...all the way to Poughkeepsie so that truck traffic doesn't need to cross the river. Truck access promotes commerce and commerce creates jobs.
thats nothing. Look at Peekskill now, it starting to be filled with useless projects. Everything from aprtments for only artists to widening sidewalks where few people walk through just so it looks nice. All that money spent and the kids still have nothing to do after school.
Once again, Peekskill attempting to "save a historic" building that should obviously crumble to the ground. Time to move forward Peekskill!
