Raising taxes does not reduce the deficit because congress only spends it as fast as it comes in. If you don't believe me then check the stats on what happens whenever we have an increase in income in the federal govt. You will see that the spending of congress also goes up because over the last 8 years we have seen federal income increase and also spending. What will reduce the deficit is people that actually reduce spending and not increasing taxes.

In terms of the environment I really think Kyoto is garbage. I believe in global warming. However, Kyoto is unattainable and unrealistic. The solution is something called "carbon shift" tax pollution into the air because it hold corporations accountable and forces us to change our SUV lifestyle. Therefore, the government can make alot of money from the taxes it accumulates. The feds must also give massive tax cuts as well in order to compensate the changes as a result of the tax shift.

I think the problem in America is the fact that the debate is about things that dont even affect the common man. For example, same sex marriage: like honestly if you are an average american working 9 to 5 job how same sex marriage going to affect you. Like seriously, you got bills to pay, your house is losing its value, the cost of goods is going up because of the high oil prices, you got kids to raise and etc. I mean the debate should not be about same sex marriage or othings.
However, I do believe America can tackle the massive deficit if they take the approach I have previously outlined by the end of Obama's eight years or even a republican if they follow a prudent and fiscal budget regiment. However, it takes two to tango and Congress has to step up to the plate.
America has to address the issue of sovereign wealth funds that is a national security issue particularly when you have China owning half of the American economy.
Though I try to stay away from the affairs of American politics, I agree with you that raising taxes are needed. It is wise for a leader to raise taxes to pay off deficits however once deficits are paid off and you have a surplus, it is also wise to lower taxes so that the population doesn't get angry.
There should also be a contract with people that is dictated by needs rather than wants.
Just look at what Paul Martin our former Canadian finance minister and prime minister did: he raised taxes and cut programs to tackle the deficit although our healthcare and education suffered for a couple of years. I think the US has no choice to take this approach. As a student of economics I am really baffled at the fact America is at war and the government has not raised the taxes to pay for the war. Basically the Iraq war and the war in Afghanistan was fought on borrowed money from China.

Now, how has debt really affected us? It might've weakened the dollar, but before you bring up bull about how we had a surplus during the Clinton years, please know we've had debts SINCE this nation was founded. So implementation of a socialized health care plan, broadening the welfare standards to allow more people access to money (on an already growing populace that truly needs the money to live) increased medicare coverage, and still no plan on how to pay for it. Now if you take a look at how we came out of the last Recession in the early 1980's, it wasn't a tax increase that stimulated economic growth. It was tax breaks, lowering taxes that got us out of the last recession.

The president is not the supreme ruler of the United States. He or she is part of a three branch government in which each of the three branches has separate but equal power. The greatest tax breaks have gone to the top 5%. They are not the job creators. We are not talking about small business owners. The top 1% own 90% of the country's wealth. If you add up all of the taxes we pay, gas, sales, income, etc., the top 5% pay a laughingly low percent compared to the rest of us. BTW, McCain's ads saying Obama will raise ordinary American's taxes are outright LIES. But he will rescind the Bush tax cuts for his wealthy pals.

Raising taxes does not reduce the deficit because congress only spends it as fast as it comes in. If you don't believe me then check the stats on what happens whenever we have an increase in income in the federal govt. You will see that the spending of congress also goes up because over the last 8 years we have seen federal income increase and also spending. What will reduce the deficit is people that actually reduce spending and not increasing taxes.

Basically the policy statement I have just outlined taxes what is bad like pollution, greenhouse gas and etc. However, you receive a massive income tax cut and you save money and you are rewarded for your labor. I mean shouldnt we be taxing what is bad (like pollution and greenhouse gas).And shouldnt we not tax what is good (your labor and your savings).
This is the "Green Shift" America needs however, there is going to be big opposition from one particular industry, the oil industry.

In terms of the environment I really think Kyoto is garbage. I believe in global warming. However, Kyoto is unattainable and unrealistic. The solution is something called "carbon shift" tax pollution into the air because it hold corporations accountable and forces us to change our SUV lifestyle. Therefore, the government can make alot of money from the taxes it accumulates. The feds must also give massive tax cuts as well in order to compensate the changes as a result of the tax shift.

Though I try to stay away from the affairs of American politics, I agree with you that raising taxes are needed. It is wise for a leader to raise taxes to pay off deficits however once deficits are paid off and you have a surplus, it is also wise to lower taxes so that the population doesn't get angry.
There should also be a contract with people that is dictated by needs rather than wants.

Just look at what Paul Martin our former Canadian finance minister and prime minister did: he raised taxes and cut programs to tackle the deficit although our healthcare and education suffered for a couple of years. I think the US has no choice to take this approach. As a student of economics I am really baffled at the fact America is at war and the government has not raised the taxes to pay for the war. Basically the Iraq war and the war in Afghanistan was fought on borrowed money from China.

Corporate executives: 8 hour days, 9-5, M-F only, two hour lunch breaks, several coffee and bathroom breaks, thier job is mostly signing pieces of paper saying "i own this, I own that". The hardest workers are factory laborers, and fry chefs working 60 hours a week and getting $12,000 a year. Truckers, secretaries, electricians etc. are somewhere in between. The harder you work the LESS you get paid: That's the republican system.
