  • too short

  • @iRebekah31 Well, I'd consider rejection something that causes emotional stress, which is more what I meant. I don't know, maybe she's looking off in the distance smiling because something ironic happened. I don't actually know the story, so I'm just going off this little piece.

  • @iRebekah31 Laughter isn't always about humor; the same way that tears are not always about sadness. For instance, laughter can be a way of indicating sarcasm, it can also be used to suggest exhaustion, etc.

........but no, I am not seeomg "hysterical laughter".

  • @iRebekah31 Laughing hysterically? What are you talking about?

  • @iRebekah31 She isn't laughing hysterically, really, in my view. She just sees the humor and irony in the situation as well as the lamentation of it. Which is perfect for this song. It's basically the point of it.

  • @iRebekah31 Some people do that under stress, so she probably thinks it's in character.

  • I saw this last night, Catherine was amazing!

  • BERNADETTE PETERS will take over the role of Desiree in July, after Catherine Zeta-Jones!

  • @boynamedalexxx oh shit are you serious? My god, I have to see this musical with Bernadette!!! :D

  • @boynamedalexxx ... thank god in heaven!

  • To quote Elaine Stritch, "That's coffee!!! That's coffee!!!" Catherine is sublime perfection!

  • she really sparkles onstage...the spotlight loves her and so do I. it was such an acting piece that the singing didnt even matter at that point during this song, but even so she sang it beautifully. I just saw what a difference an actor who sings makes compared to a singer who acts...i want an actor and thats what she is. Grace, elegance, wit, and charm.

  • I just saw this over the weekend, she was PHENOMENAL. First time seeing the show and I've fallen in love with it and her as the title role. She does all the previous singers justice by making it her on while always leaving that memory for those who already know the show of the originals to sing this song. She takes a younger look to the show and is nothing sort of perfection in her own interpretive way as she sings it... well done, CZJ.

  • I just saw this show with her in it. She was absolutely incredible and she hit this song perfectly. She deserves every praise she gets for this role.

  • Restrained*

  • This was not what I expected, but I liked it a lot. This is one of my favorite songs, ever, and I really liked CZJ's interpretation of it. The retrained hearbreak is perfectly poignant and really speaks to me as real.

  • Zeta Jones sings... OK. But I prefer Judi.

  • A nos amis francais...Are there any youtubers in Paris who could post anything from the upcoming Theatre du Chatelet production starring Kristin Scott Thomas and Leslie Caron? Merci!

  • Kristin Scott Thomas hurt her foot and has been replaced by Greta Scaachi but it hasn't started yet

  • @zimmeratgold Thanks for the update!

  • I saw this live last weekend. Miss Z-J WAS incandescent; she can't help it. I thought her Desiree was fine. Her "Send in the Clowns," though restrained, conveyed the heartbreak. She and Mr. Hanson had a chemistry that explained why they were so right for each other (which some productions lack)--and that made it all the more poignant. She was warm and playful with Fredrika. If it felt "sisterly," well, Desiree is not the most grown-up of mothers, as her mother is quick to point out.

  • life span were shorter then, realistically she's the right age and amazing

  • What I find exciting about this production is that finally there will be a cast album that has trained singers in the roles of Desiree and Mme. Armfeldt. While both Glynis Johns and Hermione Gingold were enormously talented, neither were the best of singers. (Yes, I know Ms. Gingold did many musicals....) CZJ and Ms. Lansbury will be wonderful to listen to. I just wish I could afford a trip to NYC to see it live.

  • I had the joy of being part of the day-to-day rehearsals, on the sidelines. CJZ is not only a supreme professional, talent and beauty, she is down to earth and remarkably warm. She is perfectly cast, and her combination of being 40 and gorgeous is exactly what Desiree is. I saw the production, and would recommend it to anyone...get a ticket NOW. I have nothing to gain from this recommendation..just the joy of passing on a true admiration for a true star who is also a lovely person.

  • PART 2

This is what makes the mother and daughter time on stage so presious. I'm sorry but I just don't get that from CZJ (whom I do feel is great and really gives it her all). She is more like an older sister and I just don't buy it. I saw Judith Ivey do it in LA on openning night with Victor Garbor (splet right...???). I bought that.

I by all means am not a pro. just interested in opinions. No fights.

  • Oh, I definitely agree. I've liked CZJ in almost everything I've seen her in, but I don't feel she fits the character. Age, looks, everything. They could have at LEAST tried to make her look in her mid-forties. The relationship with Fredrika is not believable at all. You're right, it looks like an "older sister."

  • you people are crazy. They have actual 13-year-olds playing Fredrika. She does not look like their sister.

This is so much better than having a 60 year-old Desiree, who looks like Fredrika's grandmother.

  • Catherine Zeta-Jones is 40. That's the right age for the part. Can she help it if she's impossibly beautiful and stunning? Word is that she really impressed the whole cast with her dedication, hard work and professionalism.

  • Sorry mammalzzz but explain to me how a younger Desiree is better palyed by a younger actress? It's like a 30 years old singing " I'm Still Here?" A younger woman who has a child out of wedlock is called a (pardon me) whore; whereas an older woman having a child out of wedlock is considered to have a blessing. PART 1

  • Catherine was amazing, she oozes Broadway, the West End was just kindergarten LOL!

  • Yay, finally a Desiree who can not only carry a tune, but who can actually sing! Ms. Johns and Dame Judi Dench are wonderful actresses, but no one would call them musical theatre actresses. Ms. Zeta-Jones is, and she is wonderful! A younger Desiree to me is a revelation - she's supposed to be leaving her youth, not already well into middle age. Plus, I'm pretty sure that Catherine has the smoldering sexuality of this character down pat. Thank you, Sire Trevor Nunn, and Ms. Zeta-Jones!

  • Amen!!!!!

  • Glynnis still owns this one, with Judi a close 2nd IMHO.

  • Cant Wait Till the 26th I hope there is a cast album

  • I know! Come on folks! Put Angela on CD as it may be ur last chance!

  • If there isn't, I WILL have a stroke. Angela Lansbury? Catherine Zeta-Jones? Erin Davie? Leigh Anne Larkin? Aaron Lazar? Their work here has to be preserved for posterity sake!
