Where is this mine? I worked in the Powder River Coal Mines in Wyoming and drove one of these trucks and the Wabco 270 T. I really loved the CAT's they are so super charged and easy riding. I retired as the back was giving out. The shift work was 4 days on 12 hour shifts. 7 off 4 nights on 12 hours 3 off 3 days on and 1 off 3 nights on 4 off. But you think that is an easy shift schedule absolutely not. Afterwhile you don't know what time to sleep. You end up sleeping 4 hours on the night shifts.
I work for this company. This is our sierrita mine, the truck is an old B model. The 793D's we have in Bagdad are nice! Oh and for the comment about haul truck drivers being fat, last year I made 70k driving one 20 days a month. How bout you?
I agree with you 100%. I only worked 14 days a month -- doing what is called the super-7 schedule. I made almost $80K. If I hadn't screwed my back up I would still be doing it. Hell, where can you make that kind of money and have half the year off? I don't think that there is such a thing!
Yes the truck is big but even bigger trucks are planned in the near future. These trucks will boast the following: 8000+hp diesel-electric engines, all-wheel-drive, duplex rear axles, 10 6+foot-diameter wheels each sporting 17+foot-diameter tires, and can go up to 55mph. They will carry 750-1000+tons and sport these approximate dimensions: 35 feet wide X 35 feet tall (dumper down) X 75-80 feet long. They will be used in mining, major construction projects, and the oil sands.
Beside the Head gasket issues the 3516 is a good engine. The New 793D has ~2300hp and the the Experimental 793F we have is over 2700hp with a new engine design. 40mph with this baby.
the 793F looks way better CAT came a long way
