  • The Supreme Court was wrong on the Citizens United decision. An analysis of how corporations are spending so much unreported money into politics instead of paying to hire people. Coporate executives are not elected by employees, unions directly elect their leaders. I say Chief Justice Roberts should be impeached.

  • NEVER criticize the court if you don't understand the legal and logistical material they are dealing with.

You have never sat behind the bench; you couldn't comprehend 1% of the issues the High Court deals with each day. This is not a matter of what the American people want; this is a matter of what the law demands to be done.

  • @VonHelton

Hey, you know what us haters and trolls REALLY don't like? Videos with the exact same video put in back to back, twice, for no reason at all. If you want to piss us off, you should do that more often.

  • Can you say... W--A--S--T--E--D ?!

    Good God, Senator....

HOW MANY FREAKIN COCKTAILS DID you have before you hit the floor with this SLUR-INFESTED blabber?

  • God's law of equality must stand. I'm talking about human rights, not money.

In a country where some people have a voice but others don't (which seems to be an occupational hazard of the current electoral process), the inequality continues to increase. The monopolies are strengthened; the small businesses are squeezed out; and the free marketplace becomes more like a master-serf relationship.

We need to encourage an America in which everyone is represented, not just the power brokers.

  • The senate is outraged that the American people have the right to criticize corrupt senators in the run up to elections!

  • Obama got more corporate money than any other 2008 candidate.

He's secretly jumping up and down in joy for this decision.

  • I'm NoT aS tHink aS yOu DrUnK i Am...

Can you slur your words any MORE than this???

  • @chromacopy365

They have justified their decisions using over 100 pages.

  • These moving corpses in the Supreme Court did nothing but united the American people under one banner. Give our power back to us.

  • If Corporations do not have free speech, then The New York Times, MSNBC and YouTube do not have free speech. Congress and Senator Leahy could control each and every newspaper article and television show. They could even censor what we post on YouTube. This is incompatible with a free society and the supreme court was correct to defend our liberty.

  • This is the worst SC decision since Dred Scott. These neocon judges who forced this through must be stopped, outed and reversed with an Ammendment to the Constitution, redefining the corporation, as it pertains to individual liberties, seperation of powers.

The world witnessed a fixed presidential election in 2000, how would you like the corporations to fix EVERY election going forward?

Plus campaigns are cash cows for the 4 people in this country who own the media.

  • There is a movement under way by Congress to REVERSE the corrupt Supreme Court's decision. It will pass because 80% of Americans view this ruling as BAD NEWS!

80% of Americans are NOT interested in joining the Supreme Court's manure pile. They intend to shovel it out!

Some of these justices need to be given a kick in the rear out the door. They are corrupt with the American Peoples' interests NOT their goal. Their interests is their own FAT WALLETS via corporations. GANGSTER CORRUPTION

  • This is NOT a Conservative ruling by so called "Conservative" Justices. This is a TOTALITARIAN ruling by corrupt anti-American Justices.

Most U.S. corporatations are NOT Conservative nor are they pro-American. To the contrary they are ANTI-American.

If they were pro-American the ruling could be seen as good. But they are not.

This ruling opens the door for corporations to haul in foreigners to put Americans out of work. 20 MIL yanks unemplyed is not enough. They want 100 MIL!

    BAD

  • lying drunk

  • the fringers have been talking about this coming corporate dark age for bloody years

how stupid are you all starting to feel :)

  • I have chunks of jerks like him in my stool. Fights for activist piss like Sotomayor, and then whines like a bitch when he's owned by a Supreme Court which understands the law. There is on the books a law prohibiting foreign corporations from buying our elections; Obonehead the ass-chimp promised to take Federal Matching Funds [limiting how much he could spend], then broke his promise to suck up all the Soros (Greek) million$ he could get his Chicago bone-thug mits on!). FUBO

  • Drunk Whore....

  • So only 'the people' should be allowed to contribute to campaigns, now that The One has been annointed?

Somebody please remind me how much money SEIU and George Soros-funded groups donated to the cause...

  • GOT DRUNK?

  • For clarification for you Libs. Obama 's campaign, during his run for office, DISABLED the campaign's "TRACK BACK" feature on their website so you could not track contributions and where they came from. Contributions could be made through pre-paid credit cards "from around the globe". The campaign was never disapplened because his party (Dems) blocked replacements to the overseeing Federal Election Commision and they couldn't act at the time.Transparency my *SS!! Conservative Ascendancy, Yes!

  • By the way, senator, where was your hero's,Barry, contributions coming from?...As I recall, he got alot of his contributions via the internet....can we track where his money's came from to help him get elected?...ah, no, we can't do that. I laugh at this, and am very pleased to see you dems all upset. (UNION NO)

  • Ahhh...you're upset, Leeky Leahy.Corporations, inwhich you help drive out of our country with Huge Corporate Taxes, now have the ability to influence elections for their self interests...Damn,that sucks doesn't?..Hey, how about Unions dumping money into the Democrat party, election after election! Do the union members have a say of which party they wish to contribute with their "Taken" dues? NO! they don't! So S*REW YOU! By the way, Americans work for these "Corporations", *sshole!

  • Corporation, n. An ingenious device for obtaining individual profit without individual responsibility.

    - Ambrose Bierce

  • Another Obama whore. Asshole

  • Worst. Bill. Ever.

  • Folks i would think this decession by the supreme court on campaing funding will be the nail in our coffin ! It will take some very determined people to get this ruling over turned in the future, This is a shame and a pity!

  • Your spelling ability is also a pity.

  • Within a year minimum wage will be abolished and college tuition will be doubled...insurance against the low life peasantry that is getting too big and smart for the Corporations of the International. Yes, Lucille, facism is around the corner. And I'm going out to play some golf and watch sports channel...reality is such a drag. Wake me when it's over.

  • Don't like it here? Move to Holland.

    We are not going ANYWHERE.

  • money talks . we are now slaves to the rich. your an idiot to thnk its only dem vrs rep. your brainwashed.

  • GE just doesnt want anyone getting in on there action, MSNBC ANYONE, HAHA

  • @diapasonify

    source?

  • I don't need a source to tell me that this country has been controlled by private interests since the beginning.

Recall that the Boston Tea Party was not only a protest against British Colonial Government but to the makers of the tea on board that ship (East India Company). They wanted representation. Our founding fathers were shills to corporate interests just as we are.

  • Fascism should more appropriately be called Corporatism because it is a merger of state and corporate power. -Benito Mussolini

  • ohdumba=empty suit personified.

  • Citizens United? HA HA HA. The same guys who tried to ban Michael Moores use of free speech. Thats funny. They call themselves citizens, yet support a non-citizen entity. Remember, these are the same guys who helped Clarence Thomas become what he is now. Their SUPREME puppet.

  • Well Wall Street seems to love the new ruling. Greed is good for America, democracy is bad.

  • @ToddonCapeCod you mean your running for Senate?

  • It sounds like the congressman had a liquid lunch.

  • Been a lot of drunken congressmen on the floor this year.

I guess when the tax payer is picking up the bar tab every day is happy hour.

  • Damn, sounds like he was tossing back a few with Senator Baucus? Is he old and tired or just wasted? Vote this drunken career political hack/socialist out of office so he can move to Cuba.

  • so if the left dont like it and obama dont like, then they'll take a vote and run rough shot over the supreme court. Nice, great. wonderful. so the justices are nothing but dumb unless they rule in the favor for the left ideals.

  • Hey everything else is for sale why not the supreme court...

  • I entirely understand the position against the decision, but there is no higher law than the Supreme Court in interpreting US constitutional law. If the current administration were to create, or help create, a way to circumvent their power, that in itself is a detriment to our way of government, let alone obsoletes the purpose of the Supreme Court. Starting such a practice is a slippery slope and utterly wrong if our leg/exec. branches were to overturn the decisions we simply don't agree with.

  • It's not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing. Many of the corporations in the US are owned by foreigners. Do you want your next election swayed by some CEO that isn't even a US citizen?

Congress should create a Constitutional amendment forbidding any type of campaign contributions by any entity that is not an individual human US citizen over the age of 18.

  • Did you say the same when Bush routinely attempted to circumvent the U.S. Constitution? If you did, I'll put some credibility into your otherwise well-written statement here....

  • A democrat advocating suppression of speech - granted, corporate speech, - but speech nonetheless.

I thought that democrats were the party of freedom.

    I was wrong.

  • @jx14aby

Corporations aren't people. They aren't citizens. They can't vote. So why should they have a constitutional right to free speech?

The Citizens United decision makes absolutely no sense as a matter of constitutional law, and it will usher in a new era of political corruption. Horrible, horrible decision.

  • @AboveAllNations: They pay for endorsements by all those moron movie stars you worship......OH......and employ millions of people!......YOU think this is an area best left for unions to continue monopolizing?

  • "Movie stars?"

    "Worship?"

    Hmmm, like . . .

    Ronald Reagan? (100% Hollywood CELEBRITY)

GOD & SAVIOR to mainstream conservatives / Republicans

    Hypocrites

  • @RonPaulGeorgeRingo: "HYPOCRITES" A word "left wingers" have no right to use much less toss at ANYONE lest they define themselves......NO?.

  • So you draw the line where "corporations" can't "speak." A movie production company? CNN? Fox News? A radio station? A corporation that owns a newspaper? Can you tell them not to print/publish/say something you don't want them talking about.

Personally, I give myself credit for knowing bullshit when I hear it.

  • Leahy was reassured ?

    sure he was.

It does not take much to calm a child like mind.

  • @mstaff657

The guy's an idiot. It's disgraceful people elect hacks lick this to represent them.

  • @jx14aby: CORRECT and WORST OF ALL....their "FELONIOUS" legislation AFFECTS US ALL!

  • Cons, including the 5 idiots on the SCOTUS, have no idea what corporations are or what the results of this ruling will be. As the dissenting opinion said, they lack the ability to distinguish between human beings and corporations.

  • He spells it out very well here but Sen Leahy what are you going to do about it? Supreme court judges are appointed for life...which is a big crock of Leprechan sh*t. Congress appoints them, they should be able to remove them as well. This decision is a betrayal of the trust & will of the US people & as such, those five deciding in favor of the FEC over the voice of the people & the legally enacted laws of congress as affirmed by the executive branch, should be prosecuted as traitors.

  • Um, I applaud your overall sentiment, but the President appoints Justices, with the advice and concent of the Senate

  • sorry, consent,

  • Technically true, I stand corrected though if a justice doesn't get through the confirmation hearings, the president can't just bypass them and appoint his selectee so in a way, congress seems to really have more than just a confirmational role. That was what I meant but I didn't state it correctly. Hard to get all your thoughts in 500 characters or less.

  • If congress can confirm and the president appoint. There really should be a way to reverse the process because of a loss of confidence in a justice or just because some of these judges seem too old and either set in their ways (biased) or just plain senile.

  • @SpinachSalad01: MAN your "monicker" suits the condition of your grey matter to a tee!

  • END THE CORPORATE/BANKER/ELITE WARS you lying pieces of sh!t!

Tim G. and Bernanke needs to be charged with the crimes committed with Sachs/AIG; and there needs to be an immediate hostile audit of the PRIVATE Fed Reserve. We have been threatened by both of these criminals twice in one year, with a dollar collapse if "we the people" f*ck with them. The current admin 'shills" for these two even though the facts of the crimes have come out, and congressional hearings.

    HOPE and Change OF WHAT?

  • It's Bushes fault! ;D @ 9:44 ET on the CSPAN clock. Upper right hand corner.

  • @jjmacjjmac It's not Bushes fault! Bush it to fuckin retarded to even know what is happening!

  • I coulnd't have said it any better. thank you Senator Leahy.

  • Leahy is an Obama ass kisser.

  • No, he's a patriotic American standing up for our country.

  • @fleecejackets

No, he's an idiot Obama ass kisser.

  • That may be your opinion, but that's probably just because you can't see past your partisanship to understand how devastating the ruling could be to our freedom.

  • @fleecejackets

That may be your opinion, but that's probably just because you're an Obama ass kisser too.

  • @jyoung0000

There's been no partisan in the Obama administration and now that Scott Brown has shown the Obama administration they AIN'T SO TUFF, they wanna be cry babies. The only elects it's gonna effect is the Obama 2012 election, which it wouldn't matter anyway, Obama is such a fuck up, he'll NEVER win a second term. I don't think you understand the whole scope of the matter.

  • @USoSilly2Me You sound like your cheering for football team to me!

  • @jyoung0000

Thank You! I use to be a cheerleader....lol

  • Large corporations are the American villians and they need to be regulated. They will destroy this country.

  • lame

  • Lame?

No, Lame is you idiot lefties that have no understanding as to what the SCOTUS's ruling said, was applied to, or what its' affects are; and going around spouting that big businesses need to be destroyed.

    That's lame!

  • even lamer

  • @AJAX556

Spoken like a person who haven't read a single book Marx wrote. Or am I wrong?

  • I don't need to read his entire works to understand one of Marx's main theories was to push the proletarian to attack the bourgeoisie........

Which is, OH MY GOSH what's happening right now.

  • @AJAX556 But that is only half the equation.

Why does Marx push the Proletariat to rise up against the Bourgeoisie? Because the Bourgeoisie make it their business to continually oppress the proletariat which - in case you haven't noticed OH MY GOSH - is ALSO happening now and continually for the last 30 years.

The poor get poorer and the rich get richer, the result of the corporate world conspiring against the public to pad their bottom lines.

  • @mikepalomino: C-A-P-I-T-A-L-I-S-M....It is the system this country was founded upon......and has made America the most successful society in history!......C-C-C-CANT deal with it?....WELL thers Cuba, Venezuela, China, Nprth Korea......take your pick and GO THERE!

  • If you think exploitation is needed to build a prosperous nation, then you are a retard.

  • @Harpenfarker It's K-K-Ken, c-c-coming to k-k-kill me. (Sorry I couldn't resist.)

As for your little rant: there's capitalism and then there's corporatism. HUGE difference.

This country was also founded on the Social Contract. Just as every Tom, Dick and Joe Plumber can declare tyranny at the thought of taxes so can we on the Left declare tyranny of the corporate interests who have conspired against the American people.

Perhaps if you'd take those blinders off you'd recognize this too.

  • @mikepalomino: "Social Contract" PLEASE direct me to the section of the constitution framimg that?

This is not a complicated issue THE DEAL WAS AND REMAINS " get a job and earn the best living you can, IF you are not happy with the return GET ANOTHER JOB!

SUPPLY AND DEMAND IF a corporations product sucks or has no use NOBODY BUYS IT!

FREEDOM: The "option" to choose what, where and how you live/make a living, to buy or not to buy BUT taking responsibility for the decisions YOU make!

  • "Because the Bourgeoisie make it their business to continually oppress the proletariat "

By how, spending money to buy goods or by hiring someone to work for them?

    -------

You believe the business owners should have their capital taken from them by force?

  • @AJAX556 First of all, I am no Marxist (heh, although for some rabid right wingers, anyone left of Ayn Rand is Marxist).

Do I think capital should be taken by force? Not at all, unless your question is a veiled reference to taxes, which is a whole other ball of wax.

I do think however that business owners - particularly large businesses - need to fundamentally alter their predatory treatment of their workers. This is why I support unions as they are a counterbalance to this practice.

  • @mikepalomino: Any....ALL groups of humans granted a degree of power over another are subject to and WILL likely fall prey to corruption.

Just observe the diviations ALL politicians have made to the constitution in the guise of "interpretation"

  • @mikepalomino : "This is why I support unions" ARE you aware that until this particular Supreme Court decision was rendered UNIONS had the right to use funds (with or without members approval) for this very purpose? (STILL DO)

You most likely truly believe your thoughts and position to be unique and seperate, SORRY......Call them "Bob"......THEY STILL "echo" Marxist philosophies.

"A ROSE BY ANY OTHER NAME......IS STILL A ROSE"

  • @Harpenfarker I understand, and I don't think unions - like corporations - should be able to spend unlimited funds for this sort of thing.

I support unions in so far as maintaining workers' rights and salaries.

As for Social Contract - I suggest you look up Jean Jacques-Rousseau, he - along with Jean Locke - were the principle inspiration for Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence and later Madison's Constitution.

  • @mikepalomino: REGARDLESS.....THEY CAN AND DO.

Look, no matter what opposing interests spend it does not enhance the "logic" of their position......IT REMAINS THE VOTERS RESPONSIBILITY TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT & WHO IS BEHIND THESE MOOKS" (D and R). TO CHOOSE FAIR & WISE. "look up Jean Jacques-Rousseau, he - along with Jean Locke - were the principle inspiration for Thomas Jefferson's Declaration of Independence and later Madison's Constitution...... now who is ranting?

  • @Harpenfarker I fail to understand your question. How was I ranting?

As for "it's the voter's responsibility" - with all due respect - you're either being intellectually dishonest or exceedingly naive. While it is true that money alone does / will not equal a guaranteed victory - the experience of the last 30 years of political demagoguery in elections, it's quite evident that the ability for corporations to fund nearly bottomless ad campaigns to smear candidates is dangerous.

  • @mikepalomino: HOWSO?....With equally due respect, BOTH (if not all) your responses are a little elitist in their tone as they indicate little IF any confidence in the IQ/judgement of the "average" voter......PERSONALLY I will trust MY fate to the average man over elitist, egotistic, self serving politicians and/or governmental bureaucrats ANY DAY......and YOU?

  • @Harpenfarker

Your populism is commendable but if true then you should also be against this ruling.

Who do you think those corporate funds are going to help? You? On the contrary, they will aid those "self-serving politicians" you claim to abhor.

And because political advertising can be as deceptive and misleading as possible, they will completely distort what little honesty there is in today's political discourse. Making it near impossible for the average man to make an informed decision.

  • @mikepalomino: ultimatly......YES!....In a free enterprise system commerce supports commerce AND commerce creates jobs.

"FAIRNESS" Mandates that to deny participation by one you must then "PULL THE PLUG ON ALL CONTRIBUTIONS!".

You CAN NOT LEGISLATE COMMON SENSE ANY MORE THAN YOU CAN CHARACTER!......AND YOU CAN NOT REASONABLY EXPECT ALL TO ACCEPT A GOVERNMENT THAT PRESUMES TO MAKE ALL DECISIONS FOR ITS CITIZENS......NO MATTER HOW WELL INTENDED......Karl

  • @Harpenfarker And please, don't try to turn this into a First Amendment issue - anyone with a basic understanding of civics understands that the First Amendment is not absolute. As famously stated by a former Justice, the Constitution is not a suicide pact. This ruling will undoubtedly have a profound effect on our politics for the worse. And the more you continue to defend it, the more you reveal yourself to be for special interest and big corporations than you are for the "average" voter.

  • @mikepalomino: "don't try to turn this into a First Amendment issue - anyone with a basic understanding of civics understands that the First Amendment is not absolute"....PERPETUAL INTERPITATION of the constitution (primarilly to satisfy one OR their groups position) has resulted in it's overall DEVALUATION..

"As famously stated by a former Justice"......Now THIS is pure BULLSHIT!

  • @Harpenfarker

"As famously stated by a former Justice"......Now THIS is pure BULLSHIT!

lol wtf? I mean - I'm trying to have a discussion here, but just saying something's "BULLSHIT" doesn't make it so.

  • Mike, just give up. It obvious that Harpen has no interest in learning anything about political theory or science whatsoever.

The sheer amount of "all caps" words should be a warning sign in itself.

I'm sure you're aware, but if not, I can recommend "A Theory of Justice" by Rawls, in the justification of a more socialized state.

  • Yeah I did give up after that last round of ALL CAPS hahaha - he seemed rational at first but quickly proved that assumption wrong. : ]

  • @ch1aka2 That is why I have been Democrat, but I don't think they are any different. I don't see how effect they are at actually regulating! What do they actually succeed at doing besides what is on the media? I do see how the Federal Reserve and wallstreet is the problem we face; Democrats or Republicans we have got bigger problems with the central banking system in this country. Thomas Jefferson said banks are more dangerous than standing armies! Why is that? Takes money for campaigns!

  • Time to take down the SC - bought and paid for by corporations. They should not be able to hold those postitions for life - no way and should reflect the diversity of the people - too many white fucking rich men on the SC

  • Have you lost your mind?

The Supreme Court is the only governmental institution standing between you and a police state. And its not pushing very hard.

  • REally - you think that? Justices Affirm Property Seizures

5-4 Ruling Backs Forced Sales for Private Development The Supreme Court ruled yesterday that local governments may force property owners to sell out and make way for private economic development when officials decide it would benefit the public, even if the property is not blighted and the new project's success is not guaranteed.

  • And there are many more from those idiots the republicans put in...want to know more you imbecile? You have no freedom thanks to the republican justices or should I say republican czars - dumbass

  • You call me an imbecile and dumbass because I disagree with you.

Obviously you have shit for brains.

  • I think there should be limits on what corporations give to lobbyists. But there are loopholes that make the laws against such spending irrelevant. Corporations are always finding ways to give support to politicians that help them in Congress. This is clearly a moot point. It is impossible to know if the money is coming from individuals or corporations.
