Also they need to sleep 16-18 hours a day because of their diet, if they get disturbed when they're resting they become REALLY nasty and can cause considerable damage.
Just because it's a cute animal doesn't mean it's a good pet.
Some koalas are in sanctuaries due to their mum dying and they are getting them strong or well enough to be released into the wild or they can't be released into the wild again or they would die. Other Koalas like here in South Australia are culled due to there not being enough food for them to eat..

Im a vet in Sandiego and Koalas are almost extinct before anyone more has them as pets we should release them so they breed!
