  • Any old servers I can buy I really Need 1

  • can u host me a software?

  • mm very silent

  • On my Main server I run Windows Home Server. On the other server I'm running XP Proffession. I'm in the proccess of building a new SAN using Freenas and I'm going to be running Server 2003 for my file server and also making a VM machine for my hosting stuff.

  • Dude, beast setup. Now what type of Server OS do you use.

  • Sweet setup man! I've only got a single server. But it's doing quite well for me right now. I'd like to upgrade into maybe SMTP/POP get a hardware firewall or something like that. Not sure yet.

  • that is sweet man would you be willing to help coach me through or give me like a brief guide on how all this works if you have free time, im very intrested in figureing out how to back up your computers image and reload if if you have a hardware failiure.

    Thanks,

    Manny

  • dude, this 1TB driver on top of your windows home server... I would take it out of there and put in another place in the house and sync through the network... in any case of some electrical accident or something like that. Thank about it

  • hey, what software do you use for your web server. I have a web server using microsoft sharepoint services and its now CRAP! I need some new software for it. Other than that, all my other servers run just fine.

  • @ctechreviews, I user apache webserver. It's open-source which I like. Not to mention it really easy to use. I also use mySQL and PHP.

  • Nice shit dude. I see you shop at Micro Center. I use to work for a long long time ago.

  • @kalitron60609 Yeah I love microcenter. It's local and they usually had alot of parts. I still shop online for other parts they don't have but I love going there for some of their big time deals.

  • @daveolso I shop there a lot to when I don't want to travel too far. Frys and CompUSA/Tigerdirect are cheaper. CompUSA/Tigerdirect's return policy sucks a little.

  • good job!!

do you think it is ok to use desktop grade hardware in a small production server? did you have any issues with it doing 24/7?

  • @BR177 No Issues with Desktop hardware at all. It's been running for years straight with out any issues.

  • @daveolso Thank you !!! I really appreciate your help.. I have some personal proyects and server grade hardware is really expensive where I live...

  • pretty simple small set up??????? what???

  • @sharkxelectronics Well it is.. I mean it's nothing real crazy with Raids.. I have a new setup now.. I'll make a video of it all one I get the room all cleaned up..

  • Comment removed

  • @farthestkris it's call torrents, dumb shit

  • Can you tell how you configured your Raid 5 WHS with one disk for the system disk and the other four disk as a Raid 5 setup? Please do a how-to.

  • No i7 in these servers.. I have a quad Core and a dual core running. I have an i7 running on my desktop now which used to be my quad core. So far they have been great little servers.. I wish I could have esxi running on them but it wouldn't work with Windows Home Server.

  • Love it, really nice. Loving all the backup :D

  • Looks like 2 DIMM's of OCZ Gold edition memory there, nice choice!

  • Very nice setup!! Will the servers be able to play flight sim if needed? I'm waiting for my 2 1u servers to arrive from Ebay, they won't be playing any games hehe, no space for a graphics card!

  • Try ipcop instead of pfsense. It seems to be much better then pfsense as long as you don't need upnp.

  • People saying desktop stuff dosnt go go as server are wrong.

    Great setup man! Nice job.

Check my latest update from 2010.

  • Great video man. Could you possibly list all of the parts used in your last build there? I would like to possibly build my own machine sometime (I haven't yet, haven't been brave enough lol) and I know you would for sure have a compatible list of components. I also live near a Microcenter so I'd be sure to go grab that Micro Mobile Drive bay.

    Thank you.

  • where did you buy your super micro drive bay from? Please let me know because i'm interested too.

  • I bought mine from a local store called microcenter. They have a website and you can just search for supermicro and it should come up. it's an awesome drive bay. Haven't had any issues what so ever.

  • what is the name of that 5-bay thing? :D

    it was pritty nice

  • It's a super Micro Mobile Drive bay. I think you can get a 4 bay or 5 bay.. It was right around 115$. I like the single cooling fan. plus it's a standard fan, so if it fails I can just pick up a new one the next day.

  • You say people criticise you for using desktop components for server use? I have four servers all doing different tasks and two of them were built using desktop components, they run fine 24/7, if you're using quality desktop components, like you obviously are, then you should have no troubles whatsoever, I find a lot of people on here like to nitpick. Thanks for the vid :)

  • that's for sure. so many people will pick you apart like vultures.

  • where do you get the hotswappable drive bays
