  • Andrew Strong (born Drewth Eoin Weak 14 November 1973 in Dublin, Ireland) is an Irish singer. He struck fame when he starred as Deco Cuffe in the hit film The Commitments, based on the book by Roddy Doyle. Strong's powerful voice served him well in the film as the lead singer of the band. Filming began when Strong was just 16 and his voice was notably mature for his age. His acting and vocal performances got the attention of record labels and in 1991 he was nominated for a Grammy Award.

  • I love this version as well.

    Love the Commitments!

  • I could watch this clip all day long! Utterly magical. ON a par with Otis definitely.

  • Glen Hansard on guitair, just realised that. Sound

  • decco the bus conducter, is that top deck or bottom

  • Excellent movie. This scene is my favorite, their version of this song is great. Strong vocals from the lead and the backup singers do a great job with the harmony. Love the energy and pure joy in this scene.

  • He were only 14 when he were on this movie ^^

  • I LOVED the movie!! LOVED the music... all of it! This poor fella aint much to look @ but AMAZING vocals!

  • I LOVED the movie...LOVED the music...ALL OF IT! This poor fella aint much to look @ but amazing vocals!

  • superb voice, an undoubted talent, its a shame we didnt hear more from him,i'm sure he'd have went a long way

  • This is my favorite version of this song, it just has so much soul. The background singers have alot of talent as well.

  • One of the best frilms ever made. :) "the children of the world wouldn't be shootin the arses off each other if they had soul"

  • As I remember, Andrew was a mere babe when this was filmed. I'm so disappointed he never went further in his career. He had the talent, but maybe life's nonsense prevented him from moving forward.

  • Ye i think he was about 17/18. Quite amazing i think kuz his voice was really deep for a teen!

  • pretty damn phat!

  • His name is Andrew Strong. Great voice.

  • he's amazing... i can't find his name?!?!?! he's got the joe cocker expressions...

  • What was the name of the movie?

  • The Commitments

  • Thanks, I though it probably was but I thought it might also be the name of the band. Have to check out the movie.

  • Loved the movie.. his voice is a gift. The song was powerful all by itself, but this guy made it have a life all it's own. Makes me wanna do karoake and whale in the mike like a drunkard baritone, tell the whole place to piss off, and get thrown out... but that's me just trying a little tenderness.. :)

  • you know, he was only 17 or 18? What an amazing singer!!

  • no way! realy? he looks well older than that. hes got a cracking voice on him too.

  • He DOES look older, for sure, but I believe he was 17, though he may have been 18.

  • he was 16

  • That's right - he turned 17, 3 months later.

  • comitments tottaly rule i love the movie so much

  • This guy really got into the song and did an excellent rendition. Otis wouldn't have been ashamed.

  • god. it makes me sad to see this again. i miss seeing this movie for the first time. and the 100th time. i love it. was he in anything else?

  • Aaaaah pretty good.

  • I love the movie and this is my fave song.

  • one of the best music films ever made

  • Great voices!!!! I LOVE THE GIRLS BACK UP SINGERS!

  • Great remake of the original.

  • i look like that when im haveing a crap anyway

  • he's Irish...that's what we do...Try The WhiskEy...

  • amen

  • Luv it; a truly great cover.

  • I snging this tonight in worcester! Amazing song Andrew Strong is a legend

  • best ever version wow!

  • He's ugly as mules arse, but WHAT A VOICE

  • You got that right.

  • ah that owl bluebird i may have finnished that one off

  • Doing this in our school band on monday! Having a commitments night gonna be awesome!

  • try to hear Brazilian Cassia Eller cover.

    How a man a nd a woman do it...moving,moving,moving.

  • I can't believe just how forgotten this film is. I had a music in film graduate class that this was required viewing. This generation of young people are so into gangster rap that they have missed out completely on some of the most amazing songs ever. Wilson Pickett was interviewed after this movie was released and he said it was the best version he had ever heard..better than his own.

  • I was in a play where we had to use Irish accents. One of the actors was having trouble with the accent. I suggested to her and her husband that they rent "The Commitments" to help with the accent. They rented it over the weekend and when we had rehersal on Monday they told me that this movie really knocked them out. They loved it and couldn't believe they hadn't heard of it before. Oh,and it helped her develop a pretty good Irish accent.

  • This is my inspiration, its a fantastic film, with fantastic vocals by Andrew Strong, the humour is great and the storyline, this is my favourite song to sing when in the karaoke which is why I you tubed myself doing it.

  • One of the things I really liked about this scene is the face of the back up singers while he sings the number. Throughout the entire movie they express nothing but hate and disgust towards Deko yet when he's on stage, singing and meaning it they can't help but show a bit of admiration to him and his amazing voice. I liked that.

  • Yes - very good bit of "business"

  • I heard that the lead singer in this was only 16 at the time. If thats true....WOW! Well actually, WOW anyway, no matter how old he is, he's out of this world! They all are. Greatest film ever!

  • when my husband and I went on honeymoon in 1971 this was on a Spanish jukebox by Otis Redding, we played it over and over whilst playing pinball. This is the best version after Otis I have ever heard. Wonderful!

  • Seen the move a bunch of times and this by far is the better song on the soundtrack. And all the songs on the soundtrack are good.

  • the dark haired back up singer plays king henry viii's 1st

wife in the new series 'The Tudors' which is new in Ireland and britian.

  • Yeah, I saw the first season, I can't wait for the second season. She's awesome!

  • What's her name?

  • the blond cracker in the middle? her name is angeline ball :)

  • For lehipster: the dark long haired singer is Maria Doyle who is talented and beautiful. She was the lead singer of a group - sorry cannot remember the name. Do you know her number "I never loved a man" also in the Commitments film? It's great. The record is MCA MCD10286; MCAD10286. Enjoy!

  • Timeless

  • How Ireland has changed in 17 years...

  • Ive always been totally in love with the

    dark long haired backing singer....Ive

written to her....to no avail....woe is me

  • She was on a TV show and now living in Spain.

  • ive sang this a few times myself and always prefered this version,it just seems to have more soul, but no doubt i will get slated for saying that! but hey ho!!!

  • Special. a brilliant feel good film

  • Cheers for posting this mate. In manchester we have an Irish pub called O'Shea's. When the landlord plays this, 200 drunk people sing it at the top of their lungs. Absolutely fantastic!

  • Thank for the comments.

    Quite so Jose.

The similarity with Joe Cocker is enormous.

And I think he had only seventeen years in the film.

  • Something about this song always gives me chills. It is a brilliant version of an absolute classic. The style of the lead singer reminds me of Joe Cocker. It is a song made to be played LOUD!

  • fantastic movie,awesome soundtrackx

  • a good page for the cinema

  • very very good video

  • Loved this movie.

  • Not Pretty!!! But bloody good!

  • :->

  • Brilliant! Thanks for posting this.
