I am a fan of both Ruutu and Lapierre because I think the "instigator"/"pest" role is not only interesting but important and can change the complexion of a game. However, it is one thing to antagonize and another to attempt to hurt someone. What Ruutu did here was clearly dangerous to the health of another human being. This is the kind of play that needs to be eliminated. Both Ruutu and Lapierre are capable of being annoying without physically hurting others. NHL referees must control this.
