  • yeahh ssd are really fast but the host here is also fast,, he sure talk too fast ^_^

  • what this drive do for PC? please ans

  • @MrHANO09 same as your normal hdd but its alot faster people use them to put your OS on so it makes your pc boot faster

  • @bugatti1075 Lots of thanks for ans..

  • what they drive work?? please ans meeeeeeee

  • A video on SSD RAID possibilities would be great

  • gud lux for waiting.. :P

  • Good review. But gave me a headache listening to someone speaking constantly.

  • The price for the hardware.. :( in a few years this will be obsolete with you ram Replacing your Hardrive completely.. i look forward to the day i spend thousands of dollar on new ram >.<

  • @DarkSifu why would ram replace the hard drive? ram 'forgets' once the power has gone, flash memory can store data like a hard drive however. you can actually buy these weird things that let you install like 8 ram chips and attach to your computer, and you can use it like a hard drive (and theyre much faster than ssd's) but once the power goes out you lose your data which is why some of them have betteries

  • @mrtoshko install like 8 ram chips and attach to your computer, and you can use it like a hard drive (and theyre much faster than ssd's<---- you said it rite there bro.. Look up IBM theres a story to it the RAM that stores information indefenitely is going to replace hardrives. and they stumbled upon this technology while reaserching mass storage.. so in fact they have Developed RAM the size of a penny that stores over Terrabytes of information.. this tech is combined with said RAM above. insane

  • anything computer related from samsung i stay the hell away from, i learned the hard way from their hard-drives and monitors

  • Is he a homosexual?

  • what i want is a 80 gig for games

  • New SSDs are faster than this one

  • linus will these get any cheaper in the future i want one or we will be doomed for ever to small budget go noisi slow hdd and those with money fast quiet ssds?

  • Over a year later....Intel's 3rd gen will be out Q4 2010 - Q1 2011 and current prices will be roughly the same with double capacity. So 160GB* Intel SSD will be around the $200 mark with 250 reads (still), but 170 writes + higher reliability. >:3

  • Dont SSD drives lose TRIM capability when RAIDed? I think if you got the wallet to RAID a pair of these, it's best to go for a single high-end SSD instead, like some of those insanely expensive PCI-Express SSDs.

  • and the dirty little secret is it cost Intel 79 cents a piece to make each little flash chip. They laugh at us behind closed doors...

  • @scrap1005 Is that true? Where did you read that?

  • after watching ssd vs hdd, i cant put a 7200rpm in my high end system

  • thay shud ship ssd drives in all new pc

  • 10 years from now, these things will be mainstream and cost about $100 for a 1tb. can't wait till that happens.

  • @IMPER1ALDRAGON, by then they'll make all operating systems 100 times bigger ;-)

  • @scrap1005 I don't think so. Companies try to make a software's footprint as small as it can be. Could you imagine having games that are each 100gb in size. We'd all run out of hard drive space real fast.

  • what is the difference between SSD to Hard drives?

  • I liked the pile of keyboards better than the mug shot.

  • What Chipset are you running. I have 2 80GB in raid 0 got 556MB/s Average and a 5500MB/s yes thats 5.5 GB/s Burst speed without a Dedicated Raid Card its on a P6X58D Premium ICH10R I'll provide screenshots if you would like

  • there raid results a crap when comparing them to hdd the price of buying 2 ssds and raiding them to 0 is that high that you could buy 3 hdd for that price get around 1.5 tb of data and have wright speeds at the speed of 3 hdd you don't need more than 500 mb/s or so cause every thing would alread load instant

my prices ar most likly wrong my sorces say for the price of 2 you could get 4 $59 for 1 500gb hdd and 110 for 500gb ssd that from lowest ssd prices for 500gb it can reach 300 ssd suck atm

  • Got one recently too thanks to NCIX's sale. If you are looking for a SSD, you really can't go wrong with the Intel's X25-m. You know they are much more reliable than any other SSD and have crazy random read and write speed. Running virtual machine from bootcamp now is so smooth now I really can't tell if I'm using virtual machine.

  • just got one, works great!

  • My conclusion ,is...... It's fast!!

    and..... MEGA expensive !!!!

,but looks like 2 dollar cost to produce ,in China.

  • Now that the hard drives go flash, all the geeks will be able to open one. Hence this big nose chap.

  • @talesdian Insightful Dude

  • Lucky basturd getting thoes drives

  • if speed kills, guns kill too... come to think of it even a toothpick kills! .. or chewing gum or bread.. geeez!

  • SSD's are really fast and relaible, but they are way too expensive.

    i'll wait a few years.

  • @Affje800

Depends if you do RAPTOR setups then its not that much more expensive.

  • @Affje800

I have an 80GB one for Windows (OS) and two 1TB drives for data.

The SSD cost about $200, not that big of a deal, and I have SSD today.

Amazing performance. Time is money, too.

  • @Affje800 a 1TB ssd is £2500. 30GB is £80. i will get a 30GB and add though time

  • @Affje800 the price gets lower and lower... i think 3 years and the hdd will vanish

  • @Affje800 the prices are dropping now

  • @Affje800 theyre still expensive XD

  • nice conclusion man! XD

  • damn maaan they should be cheaper maaaaaaaaaan!!!!!

omg i wish i could hav like 4 in raid 0 but now i can hardly afford 1 xP.

ND 500 IS WAAAY 2 MUCH, FAQ INTELK FOR NOW >.>

  • in time they will be cheap, dont jump on the bandwagon

  • speed kills, lool good point

  • shit 150 pounds for 80gb thats the same cost as a gtx260...

  • you might aswell get 2 300gb vraptors and stick them in raid 0 and it would cost less than 1 of these and save a bit 2...

  • I used to use a hard drive with 50mb read speed :S got my 2 corsair x64 ssd saturday. WOW!!! i put them in raid 0 and the peformance is killing! it's just so freaking fast!

  • holy shit 500 EACH???????!!!!!????????

  • how fast does a normal HDD read at

  • Around 80-90MB/s. Some do lower.

  • yeah, did you see this video? it's INSANE

    watch?v=T_Jz7IMwBt4

  • The funny part is thay wneh you see the size of a MicroSD memory unit... you can actualy ask yourself why they just don't do terrabytes SSD... Its not PHENOMENAL to see a 500gb ssd if they already do 2 AND even 4 GIGS !... its just sad that they already have the technology but they think we are stupid to trust everything they say.

    My 2 cents.

  • it would be very costly to produce so it would be like more than 1000$ and who would buy it? not all have the money u have

  • Actualy i'm not rich at all. And actualy i don't realy think its that costly to produce such products. You can get mp3 players with 2 gigs today at 40 dollars... and they actualy made a BIG MARKUP on those... so NO its not costly to pruduce such things...

  • Imagine how cheap it must be if chinese mp4 players come with 2 gigs in them for a couple of bucks. If by your logic the 2 gig chips cost them nothing then combining 500 2 gig chips would be cheap. Its possible, but thats not normally how things happen. As you make larger storage quantities in the same space the price reflects it. It just costs to much to manufacture bigger drives. Remember when USB drives used to cost upwards of a hundred bucks? In time, my friend, in time.

  • True. LOL tanks Haha

  • OCZ Z-Drive dude. Besides, producing SSD's is still very expensive.

  • i would do it if i had the money it is so fast

  • as of right now the 80gb is about $240 canadian, its expensive, but not that bad.., nice review

  • wow... finally someone says it like it is...

    it's just a drive...

  • why is there a foam twinkie on your shirt

  • That's not true. A lot of straight guys in Vancouver wear ear rings nowaday.

  • Exactly. And who ever says only gay guys wear ear rings, is a TOTAL stereotype!

  • based on the 'hints' you saw (earrings), you must be gay?

  • Well..wear out... but not that it means within 2years... probably 120 years theoretically.. but practical make it 60 years...so dont worry about the wear out of SSD. cause compared too the lifespan of a HDD its so much better.

Go for SSD ;) i will do it too ..

    SSD FTW

  • Check wikipedia and solid state drive.

They explain "wear out" under disadvantages.

Sorry, but YouTube doesn't allow people to post links.

  • Nice speeds

  • But even still I would have 2 SSD drives.

    1 for the OS

1 for the windows swap file/page file.

third drive IDE for data storage

  • thats impss...u cant use one exceptional drive for swap page file.... just use 2 of them in Raid 0... and that IDE drive for storage.. thats all.. 2 in raid 0 is Sooo Amazingly fast...

  • What software was he using to perform those tests ?

  • It's called Sisoft Sandra.. try and google it.. its free..;)

    good luck with it..

  • SSD FOR THE ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE !!! FTW!!!

Just buy some external HDD for Storage !!

  • second that :)

SSD for OS, HDD for storage.

  • omg VelociRaptors ftw

  • OMG STFUP !!! velociRaptors are getting kicked ass by those SSD's !!!

in performance they are not even close by those intel Solid state drive's

  • Price: Price velociraptors are better. You can RAID 0 3 velociraptors for 900GB for $50 less than 1 256GB SSD.

  • agreed...the price is still better of HDD.. but i go for performance.

  • Zero seek time FTW

  • its now about 360$ for 80gb.

SSD technology for mainstream is only senseful as a systemdisc, not for mass storage.

wait a bit, in a year it is ready(cheap) for mass market.

  • If you think about it...

    500$ 80gb or

130$ 1tb 7200rpm drive. Of course speed matters, but ssd is not an affordable way of storage.

  • I want a raid array of these.... Nerdgasm!

  • agreed

  • i agree also

  • You ignore one very importand point: Accesstime! From 10-15ms to 0.1ms!

Very importand for a lot of small files, for database applications etc. and of course booting and starting applications.

  • its 0.079, which is lees than 0.1 ,

  • HOLY SHIT! 500mb/s read times in RAID 0 lmao raptors only got around 210mb/s in RAID 0 geeeeez

  • I dont think that they really did 500 mb/sec in raid 0!first I want a proove of that!dont you?

  • Fast, but the space is so small, at this point I would still just rather buy a Raptor drive.

  • I was expecting the Intel bunny to jump out this time lol.

  • Linus Rulz! :)

  • Very nice video once again Linus!

  • Cool Video A+++++++++++++++++++++

  • so expensive.. but very very fast in raid 0

  • I just wish they would sell them 100$ ( 80gb )

then i will buy 2 of them and then raid them

  • then a standard terabyte for storage.

  • The E's are even better since they are SLC drives.

  • DAMN!

  • its nice that he commented in the end about actually noticing the performance differences. sometimes people needa realize that they don't even NEED to upgrade to an ssd and spend that extra money

  • he was shaking pretty bad. lol

  • what is the catchy tune that play at :30 seconds

    i've always wanted to know

  • The Benny Hill Show.

  • woah, those in raid are monsterous

  • make it interesting? Dude, I hope you're not thinking like punk-ass G4. You don't need explosions and bouncing titties to make geeks drool over technology.

Now if you're going for an ironic style ala Will It Blend or David Letterman, then I guess it makes sense. "LOOK! A PILE OF KEYBOARDS! ISN'T THAT COOL?! Now that I have your attention, here's some Blu Ray burners"

  • 80 gigs would be the perfect amount for a netbook, its too bad this ssd is more expensive than the average netbook.

  • no he only know what he talking about so it sounds to u like gay ...

  • good review! MORE GPU AND CPU REVIEWS PLZ!

  • SSDs aren't faster because companies are protecting the HDD market .

  • 500$ wow

  • ocz will release their new vertex ssd drive with the new firmware which promises up to 250 mb read and 240 mb wright and its about 160 to 250 gb

and will cost between 250 and 350 dollars which costs allot less than intel

  • i think any vid that has anything to do with hardware ive seen your reply on it, haha!

  • rofl

    thx i guess

i go crazy from the tome between 12 and 3

  • im serious LOL. since i posted that reply ive seen prolly 5 or more vids with your reply.. tjharlow one i think and few more.

  • i like pcs

    do u play l4d ?

  • yep sometimes

  • this guy is a character

  • Where is the HD ? :(

Great video though! Keep it up :)

  • It takes time to process the HD, how can you not know this yet?

  • Exactly. Every freakin video somebody asks it.
