  • Please, do not know what it's called in the film 02:03

  • @13Maryka It's The Fool, a tv movie, nice film :)

  • @rosapurpurea Thank you so much!! :)

  • Nice mix of the young Derek and the mature Derek:-)

    All views being incredibly handsome:-)

The only "problem" with his acting is that I can't decide whether he's better as a hero or a villain -- he's superb as both!

  • @drose5200 Mmmmh...hard to decide, but I prefer his good ones...suit me better: Cadfael and Claudius above all.

  • This is getting to be one of my favorite compilations of Sir Derek's work! Thank you for all the work you put into this:-)

    Rose

  • Again and again he astonishes me with his marvellous skill and unbelievable talent. He was amazing in The Hunchback of Notre Dame 1982 as Frollo-Such a hard character to portray!

  • I love him in Dead Again! Also as Francis Bacon. He is one of our best actors! Would love to see him hook up with David Tennant again in a shakespear...

  • Sfir Derek is one of the best actors of the last century. Can do it all: a Roman emperor, a homicidal maniac, a 12th century monk or Hamlet's uncle. Someday we'll see him as a Batman villain. Every good character actor gets to do a Batman villain, eventually.

  • arnold schwartzenaggar

  • he played both hamelt and hamlet's uncle! He is one of our best.

  • @HogwartsCastle

yep. It's the main theme for Bats in both films. XD

    Love Derek Jacobi!

  • apgarscore, the movie is "Dead Again" - it's a great film! I own it and watch if often. Ken and Emma star and Jacobi plays into the plot heavily....amazing in this film as in all films. Branagh did a brilliant job directing. I highly recommend the movie - very different.

  • Thank! I will get back to you later. Have to go to Easter dinner. I love that - just a 'bunch of nitwit fans'...haha. I did click on that last night and will be interested in joing. We started a fan club on my lit site for Branagh and one is on this site, too....same thing....'just a bunch of nitwit fans'....who love to rave on and on...haaha

  • Wow! This video is amazing. You did an terrrific job on this video. I love the music too ; fits the action perfectly. Wowy, I want to know what all these films are. I didn't recognise many of them. rosa, you must have to fill me in, so I can track down the films I have missed to view soon. Again a great video. Glad I looked.

  • Oh, thank you!!! :))

I'll fill you in gladly, just ask :)

Another thing you could do is join SDJ(Sir Derek Jacobi for the fans) forum - there's a link up there on the right, informations box. Just a bunch of nitwit fans, having fun, sharing informations, pictures, news...

  • Please can you tell me what the clip with the scissors is from

  • Of course! It's "Dead Again"...thrilles, Ken Branagh's director, and then few names...Emma Thompson, Robin Williams, Andy Garcia(and SDJ naturally)...

  • Derek Jacobi is the man!!!!!!!!! need i say more.

  • Ehehe...no, you don't, it's perfect that way :)

  • Which movie is the clip (at 0:58) where Jacobi's dressed up as a woman from?

  • LOL! He's not dressed like a woman, he's Richard II...quite womanish I must say, but still a Shakespearian king... ;)

  • rosa dear, i'm anxious to find out what film you put on 3,23 (with anthony hopkins too). pls tell me.

  • Should be "The tenth man"...

  • Glad that someone likes Derek besides me!

  • We're more than you think...more than I thought actually...that's comforting... ;)

  • Glad to see someone also likes him. More than indeed that we think!

  • Well, I started liking him at 15 would you believe?!

  • Oh yes...I started just few years ago, but only because I didn't know about his existence! :))

  • musica e clip azzeccatissimi!!!!!5/5!

  • Anyone know what film the clip is from that plays from about 0:45 to 0:55?

  • As I've said to vodun82, it's Branagh's "Henry V" :)

  • Hi Rosapurpurea,

hm, can only add here what has been already written by people before me... I love SDJ and I can't stop watching most of your movies once I'm getting started on them. I completely lack video-making skills as well as programs, so am really looking forward to see more of your. Great combination of clips and music? Where's the music from? The clips I know mostly. =)

Please let there be more to come!

    Greenie

  • Thank you so much Greenie!!!

The music is from "Batman Begins"...since you know the clips I don't need to say anything more ;p

  • Hi Rosa,

thanks a lot for your reply! Could you please enlighten me why he is acting a bit odd in the pieces from 'Love is the Devil'? I know quite a bit about the movie and Bacon, but haven't see the whole thing yet. So: What has happened around that bit? And also the scene where he running into the corridor, which is fairly early in your clip... Thanks a lot!

    Greenie

  • The running scene is from "The day of the jackal"...boring movie, but he's lovely and really young!

As for "Love is the devil"...you mean the blueface bit? He's creating(Bacon), and he's quite drunk and desperate...that's why SDJ acts 'oddly'...I think he's perfect(SDJ) actually ;)

  • Hi Rosa,

thanks a lot! I meant 'acting odd' as Bacon, not acting odd as an actor. Can you understand what I mean with this? I just wondered (not so much for the blue paint in his face), but for what he was drinking... I mean when somebody cleans his teeth with bleach... I absolutely adore SDJ (as you do)!!!

  • What's 0:38-0:56 from? Looks interesting.

  • That's Branagh's Henry V, great movie! (Search on YouTube, you'll find something...on my channel too actually, but only Derek Jacobi's parts ;p)

  • Oh? I've been meaning to see that. Didn't know he was in it. Most excellent =D

  • please, could you put the names of the movies you took the clips from?

some i managed to recognize. but not all

e.g. what movie is at 2:03? thks.

  • naly it's "The Fool", nice tv movie back to 1990 where SDJ plays a double role...

  • whats the clip at 2.31?

  • It's the same of 2.28...Cafael, "A morbid taste for bones" episode :)

  • i was just curious from a scene i just saw there where he attempted to make love to Esmeralda and perhaps it might have been from that HOND film ('82 version).

  • greenvalley87 Yes, that's right, it's HOND(clever abbreviation btw ;p) I bought the DVD version just a couple of months ago, I had a VHS version(that's the one I used for this video, that's why the quality is so poor). I think you should find it on the net quite easily.

  • the 82 HOND version was recently added on you tube, pls go see it on HugosNotreDame channel. it's veeeery nice. i was highly impressed by dir Derek's performance as frollo. splendid!

  • do you own the '82 version of the hunchback of notre dame with DJ on it?

  • meb28 thank you so much :) It was "The tenth man", a good tv movie, you should find it on DVD without difficulties. As for I Claudius, I'll try to include some bits the next time :)

  • Hello very interesting video. What was the name of the movie where he was shooting at Anthony Hopkins? And did you have a bit from I Claudius in there as well? Thanks for the video.

  • I am asking because recently I saw this film called "revelation" just because SDJ was in it (a really weird da-vinci-code thing) and it was so awful i felt bad for him - if you haven't seen this one yet, don't do it:)

  • No, actually I didn't see "Revelation"...doesn't appeal to me...I realized one thing though...even when he's acting in B-movies or rather awful ones he's always brilliant, isn't he?

  • as one fan to another may I ask you...which is your least favorite SDJ piece? you obviously have seen pretty much everything you could find, so there must be something you saw that made you think "God, what was he thinking?!"

  • Nice question twolionss...In the past I'd probably say "Blueblood" wich is a horror/sexy movie with Oliver Reed too...but SDJ looked gorgeous and half naked, so I don't complain after all ;) Recently he had quite nice parts...probably I'd say "Revenger's Tragedy"...pony tail, violet lipstick and black nail varnish...not exactly a nice view :)

  • thanks A LOT for the video of "discovering Hamlet"-FANTASTIC!

  • Glad you liked it twolionss...:)

  • Could add the recent Dr Who to the "dark list"!

  • Yes, that's a good idea...I'll probably take a second chance on SDJ's Dark side... ;)

  • hey,pretty good actor!!

  • Thank you so so much! Yes he was directing Ken Branagh in his first attempt as Hamlet at the Renaissance Company. The video is "Discovering Hamlet"...you should find it on Amazon...

  • Would you believe that amazon does not deliver dvds in greece? very frustrating, since I could not find "the fool" and "the human factor" anywhere else...anyway, thanks for the info, it must be great to see SDJ as a director for once

  • Too bad twolionss...try ebay instead...and if you like to see more of "Discovering Hamlet" check on YouTube, I've added something. :)

  • fantastic job - great music - amazing scenes - thank u, keep them coming!!!where did u get the scene where he is on stage (directing probably)?

  • Please, from what film is the scene where he is throwing letters out the window? Nicely timed with the music, by the way.

  • Is a scene from "The fool", a tv movie he made in 1990...Thank you, btw :)

  • What a great actor. And a fine video-- very well done, indeed. Thanks.

  • What can I say..thank you, and yes, he's a great actor!

  • Lovel lovely lovely Del.I think he's the best actor of his generation.

The musicvid was gr8 thanks for posting. Keep them coming!!!

  • Yes, he's a great actor and a really nice man. Thank you so much... :)

  • KcjK1 is right, that's "Love is the devil". Speyeder good job, I used Cadfael, Hamlet, Underworld, and also The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dead Again, Henry V, The Jackall, I Claudius, BBC Richard II, The tenth man, Gladiator, The fool...mmmh...I think nothing else... :))

    Thanks both for your comments.

  • Wow...that's a lot! I'm dying to see "Love Is The Devil". Hrm. Cool video. Why do I like Jacobi so much?! That is the real mystery here.

  • newsboysrok...yes,"Love is the devil" was a great piece of work...great acting, great directing, great production...a difficult story, but really mesmerizing!

As for the mystery...who cares? Come on board and enjoy the man! :)

  • OK where did you pull these clips from? I know underworld, cadfael and Hamlet. What about the one whedre he had blue paint on his face? I want to go out and see these :)

  • I think the blue pain scene is from "Love is the devil" - a bio-pic of the 20th Century British painter Francis Bacon.
