yes, after this their drum sounds were samples. whereas this machine actually uses sounds from real functioning ossilators and a noise source through a voltage controlled filter . thats why these are so perfect for modding. while mods on later boss drum machines make them sound like they are malfunctioning mods to this one will bring out it's analog guts

You can do both.
There are 32 presets, of which you can write over 16 of them with your own beats.

yeah,DR is doctor rhythm, TR, transistor rythm. MC, microcomposer, while CR stands for compurhythm. and yeah, go analog!
