Im just starting to teach my Dutchie Bark & Hold. he has been hard to get GOOD barks out of up to this point but he seems to be coming along as he matures. Would you mind me asking why you are using the place board for it? I just got one so Im excited to know. Thanks!
@HOSSPAINTR I'm just using the place to show a different way to teach the dog to stop on front of the handler. Many people use a tieback or line to do it, which is good for building intensity, but I always like trying new things. I think the place helps the dog learn the self control skills necessary with less confrontation than the leash. Using the place may be a bad idea if the dog doesn't already have good intensity because it may require him to hold back too much.
@HOSSPAINTR Just make sure he has a very good understanding of the place command before you use it with the bark and hold, otherwise you could bring stress to the exercise.
I totally agree and thank you! So far, he's guarding the decoys, but no good barks. Im getting frustrated. He will do a good solid bark and hold on me, but not a decoy. He just yacks at them. lol
What is this for? Police dog training?
