History Channel is part of the American propaganda machine. US didn't "liberate" Filipinos because the Filipinos were under American rule since 1899. US Federal Law, the Tydings-McDuffie Act of 1934 mandated Philippine Independence in 1944 but due to the Japanese occupation this was finally done on 1946. US bombing (B-24's) and heavy artillery also killed Manila's civilians, not just Japanese massacres. This video is just propaganda

It is tragic about Filipino civilians in Manila. I still can't believe that the Japanese claim they invaded the Philippines to "liberate" the Filipinos from the Americans and were trying to help them by bringing them into the Greater East Asian Co-Prosperity Sphere. I have been told that by two Japanese who seemed to actually believe this to be true. I asked another Japanese acquaintance what he learned about WW2 in school. His sarcastic answer was "what is world war 2?"

my grandpa was there in 44 and 45 with the 3rd battalion 20th infantry 6th division as a sergant ......he talked about it everyday wish i knew mopre about him and the war . thanks for the video and thanks to all the vets in all wars and my grandpa my hero john troquille

Thank you for uploading this for all of us to see. I think it's a wake up call for everyone everywhere. The average Japanese soldier, who did all this dirty work, was just a person like all of us. But the leadership, in which they trusted, was evil and the ranks below had to obey those above. If the Emperor said kill, they had to kill. This is a lesson we must learn. Just because someone is in power, dose not make them right. As Americans, we know this, but I fear we are sliding back.

The Philippines were liberated, but at what cost? The loss of 100,000 of her most urbane, educated citizens; the loss of all her major landmarks, and the destruction of the Philippine economy.

Sometimes, I envy the fact that Singapore was surrendered by the Japanese after the war. They will never know the psychological trauma Manileños experienced. Case in point: most Filipinos don't know that we had the most modern, progressive, and beautiful city in the far east in the 30's.

If the Japanese would have surrendered instead of holding to the idea that suicide is more honorable then there wouldn't have been the need. The Atomic bombs wouldn't have been dropped if they hadn't proven time and again that they would never surrender.

ONE bomb was dropped on hiroshima, did the japs surrender? NOPE thy refused to beleive could do again, paired with the code of bullcrap that they followed, they were still prepareing to fight off the "barbarian" invaders to the last. so they HAD to drop the second bomb.

@Icix1 at least i don't use foul language to get points across. we are not lower then scum. dropping the bombs didn't just save thousands of americans, but also SAVED hundreads of thousands of japs. japs that were prepaired to fight to the death.do i wish could be otherwise of course i do but i'm smart enough to realize that by killing a FEW as horrid a way to die as it was, SAVED many times more. picture the jap islands as a barren landscape devoid of almost all life. that was the other option.
