When you began the approach you pushed VOR LOC. If you had not pressed that, wouldnt it still make it to the runway simply by being in LNAV and VNAV modes? I always assumed that as long as the data was entered into the FMC correctly and you had selected the correct ILS frequency and course setting, then it would automatically fly straight down to the runway without using VOR LOC. What is the advantage or reason behind using that button?
@michaelgriffin2003 Yes, the aircraft would fly the approach on LNAV and VNAV however this is all about precision. ILS approaches offer a higher level of precision than LNAV and VNAV and more importantly reference to raw navigation data present in the real world, not computer data in the FMC which could be incorrect. If you use APP mode to fly the approach and use LNAV and VNAV instead you don't even need to have the correct ILS info, just the approach entered in the FMC. :)
@patrickchristensen96 They are two completely different things, SPD INTV is a button which opens or closes the speed window on the MCP hence giving you control of the speed when the aircraft is flying in VNAV or removing that control. LVL Change is an autopilot mode to climb or descend the aircraft using the elevators. i.e. during a climb, maximum climb thrust is set and elevator is used to control speed. Idle thrust is set to descend and the same is done. Thanks for watching and commenting! :D
Hey! Very useful tutorials you make here! Thanks a lot! But i still have 2 major problems: First, my VNAV switch won't turn on, even after creating and activating a flightplan in FMC. (LNAV works though). Second, i've watched the FMC tutorial episode, i followed exaclty what you said but the Trim doesn't adjust itsel automaticly and i get a message saying that the V SPEEDS are not available. Do you know what's wrong? Please help! Thanks.
@BadNiedernauer Hi, thanks, I can help but first please tell me 1) when your VNAV switch won't turn on (before takeoff, whole flight etc.?) 2) did you watch episode 6? Did you go through the PERF INIT page and EXECute the data after you'd entered it? Thanks :)
@FSXpilot767 Hey, thanks for the help! Yes, I've entered all correct information and solved my problem just yesterday by reading the manuals. It happens that both of the flight directors should've been on for the VNAV to work. :/ Oh, by the way, I just made a successfull landing at Innsbruck rw8, by using the DME West approach. Thanks for showing me how to do it!
I have a problem FMC ALT PATH at the APP it says UNAVAILABLE PATH when a got at T/D continue flying same altitude, and speed start decreasing from the FMC programing...i'm doing something wrong?
@juanga251 ok, firstly I had this problem on my first flight and it can be overcome very easily. Make sure you set a lower altitude before the T/D and it should start descending in the VNAV mode when the T/D is reached. If you can't set a lower altitude before T/D for whatever reason such as ATC, when you are cleared down press the ALT INTV button and it should start descending in VNAV. Hope this helps you :)
@FSXpilot767 so just to cleared up the thinks...Fmc computes T/D but most of the time you get clearance after that..so in order to descend onprecalculated VnaV mode you press ALT INTV and descends according with VNAV profile adjusting ROD?
@discojockey007 I'm extremely busy at the moment and I also have some internet connection issues which should hopefully be resolved very soon, sorry for the delay!! :/
Great videos ! Thanks !! Could you do me a BIG favour ! ... and make a video ( or some text ) that details how you've set up and run EZdok Camera with trackIR to get those great look'n smooth VC visuals in the PMDG 737NGX, like what you have in this video. It's been mega frustrating for me to do this, and its not work'n right. I'd really appreciate your help .. please ! Cheers from Canada !
Well done mate!! I'm curious however, as a new user of the PMDG 737, do most people use the ATC while flying the PMDG 737? When I use it, they ALWAYS have me start the descent well after whats loaded in the CMU and throws everything off. I always end up frantically trying to descend fast enough to capture glide slope and all the handoff's :)
@tinpanva I don't usually but when I do I request a lower cruising altitude from ATC at my top of descent point to make sure I get down with no problems, hope this helps and thanks for watching! :D
@tinpanva Oh thats a good idea also. Might give that one a try tonight. I also liked watching this while you were using the 3d flight deck, I've always used the 2D panels and your were much more "fluid". Will try that tonight as well.
@tinpanva the fluid movements were because of another add-on I used called EzDok, it's a good add-on! But like you say, I think 3D can be better than 2D, it certainly feels much more real! :)
@cory1337 That's what's my autoland tutorial is for. As you can see I didn't engage both autopilots anyway as this was a non autoland (CAT1) approach... Thanks for watching, you were clearly paying attention! :P
@boostedscim I'm on holiday at the moment so there's not much I can do about that, however I can only take this comment as a compliment as you must be finding them helpful! :P
awesome! now I know every aspect of the mcp =). I noticed how your autoland doesnt have the beeping noise when you turn on nav 1 or nav 2, it is sooo annoying when i turn it on, its like beep beep beeep beeep and it drives me crazy, is there a way to turn it off? do you know how to turn off the beep noise but still have the nav function working?
@ikellay look at all of the small circular knobs on the pedestal, there will be ones for NAV1 and NAV2, just turn them to the minimum volume and you won't hear the beeping! :D

Great video by the way!

At the end you didn't say why you enabled CMD B.
For those who don't know in order to achieve a full autoland you must have both autopilots engaged after you engage APP mode.
