390 vs 440---not the issue--the Mopar was geared much lower--both cars had extensive modifications for the jump scenes and both were basket cases when filming was done. one Mustang remains in existence on the east coast--it cannot be purchased..

Glenn I agree with you on that. But it's the US car makers' own fault they've been left behind by the Japs and the Europeans in car making... maybe if GM & Chrysler could offer their cars with an option at no cost to run on LPG they'd sell more. I love US made cars, I live in the UK and have two Chryslers...and gas here is around $9 US a gallon..

Movie car was a 440. They had two Mustangs one 390 and one 289. They had to beef up the 390 car just to get it to hang with that new Dodge 440. The Stang couldn't even keep up with it to make a realistic looking chase scene. This info is from a guy that worked on the movie set. They also said the original chase car was going to be a tripple black 68 Cougar, but some kid working on the set had a new black Charger in the parking lot. The director saw it and the rest is history.
