  • how does a composite stick not aid him in the speed... If the stick is lighter, he can move it quicker thus adding more force and increasing your velocity. Eventhough you lose some mass in the stick, the most of the speed comes from the body and flex... As someone who uses both, my shot is a little faster.

  • That is not accurate. A wooden stick, while stronger, can only flex so much before breaking. A composite stick can flex much further giving more torque on the shot.

Al Iafrate and Al McInnis could shoot 104+MPH shots with wooden sticks in their time. If they were using composites back then they could have topped speeds of 110 MPH I am sure.

The same thing goes with golf clubs. Golfers are hitting much farther today then in the past, all thanks to composites.

  • shouldnt he be looking up when shooting?

  • @liamcharnock95 what?

  • @liamcharnock95 That is how you whiff.

  • Ohio State sucks ass. they're all gay. go blue.

  • @leaf98 hell yeah!

  • top chez

  • This is just a slapshot, not a physics class bud.

  • @Thedillydangle what the hell do u think physics is? This is nothing but physics.

  • Good stuff.

  • @stevebever increase of velocity would enhance the shot because there is less force pulling him back. Sorry Little dude

  • This guy is full oh shit.

  • Ok why do all u fags talk about your dicks under a hockey video. If ur telling some other guy about ur dick ur gay. So go comment somewhere else fages

  • lol wtf composite sticks do help your shot they actually flex where wood barely does and if its a slapshot it normally breaks

  • @guitarplyer86 As soon as I got good enough at hockey to skate backwards I bought a comp stick. Wood sucks ass.

  • if there adding new formate to the all star nhl skills

they should add the hardest/fastest one-timer

  • actually a lighter stick does increase the speed of the shot because it is a quicker release and you can shoot it faster and with more power... Speed = Distance / time and with less time which is the time you hit the puck with your stick meens a greater speed BITCH!

  • @signmeup00 congrats on passing gr 10 physics! There's more going on than just speed (even though that formula you kindly provided is for velocity, v=d/t), it also involves transfer of and change in momentum, called impulse. Impulse = force x change in time, which actually means that the longer the force of your shot is applied to the puck, the faster it will go which is why following through produces a harder shot. Good try young man but check your facts next time "BITCH!"

  • @signmeup00 it really shouldnt make a very big difference. its all about torque from the flex and follow through

  • @hockeymatt1994 then why do 99% of the pros in the nhl today use em?

  • @signmeup00 because they have much better puck handling since they are weighted better, they have better release for wrist shots and passes, and theyre more durable than wood

  • @signmeup00 You obviously didn't take any physics classes. Distance would be from where he shot to the net. Time is how long it took to get there. Speed would be measured from that and therefore have nothing to do with the stick DUMBASS.

  • @goathead901 dude i know your right but, i dont care about physics all i am saying is that ( a lighter stick would help) lol

  • @signmeup00 actually, a heavier stick shoots the puck harder due to increased momentum. (p=mv) BITCH PLEASE!

  • @canuck1992 i didnt say harder i said faster

  • Comment removed

  • @canuck1992 Are you sure? Al Mclinnis uses a wooden stick, 100.4 was his hardest. Zdeno Chara uses hard stiff composite stick 105.9 years before that. 105.4 , 103.1. IF wooden speeds up shots then why have we not seen it. Why todays player shoot 105.4 like Chara? And even kilger back in the leafs days few years ago recorded 106.7. Again why havnt players like McInnis or Al Iafrate top Chara or Kilger?

  • @okpapereat because Chara is a freakin monster!

  • @signmeup00 heres the deal. m1v1=m2v2. If m1 is really heavy and m2 is light (aka heavy stick and puck). The assumption is that the stick velocity will be very similar for both a light weight and heavy weight stick. However the first equation indicates that a heavier stick will result in a higher velocity than a light stick. think of a pendulum hammer, the heavier they are, the force they apply to whatever they come in contact with

  • @canuck1992 okay sorry

  • @signmeup00 physics. momentum. its kinetic energy not speed, you have the right idea but not the right description

  • @signmeup00 that was so stupid dude, you clearly have no knowledge of physics

  • @hockeyhary whatever i dont care

  • @signmeup00

that equation has absolutely nothing to do with contact time... completely unaffected by stick weight.

  • @6BURG9 whatever but what stick do u use? wood? i bet not

  • @signmeup00

i dont play hockey. if i did id use the wood in my pants

  • @6BURG9 ok

  • @signmeup00

Not quite the right explanation, but you are correct. Kinetic energy = Mass x Velocity squared, so the velocity at which you hit the puck determines how much energy is transferred more than the mass of the stick does (though it still affects it, the guy in the video has no idea what he's talking about) It is the same concept behind the corked bat, which is lighter than a regular bat. Physics ftw

  • @vmcnick okay nice!

  • @signmeup00 but a heavier stick would also have more inertia dn more energy when you get it at high speed

    F=ma

  • @signmeup00 win

  • @signmeup00 the speed of the puck can be calculated using that equation. It is done as distance to the net / time it takes to get to the net = speed of the puck.. Speed at which you swing the stick won't matter as much. You have to consider a lighter stick will have less mass. F=MA

As the narrator mentioned to truly generate high speed shots you use the energy stored in the stick from its flex.

So don't buy a $250 stick because you think you'll add 50mph to your shot.

  • @signmeup00 Ohh man your so badass ending your comment with "BITCH". I bet you feel all grown up.

  • @nfldman1976 i dont care that was like 5 months ago calm down

  • @signmeup00 Speed = Distance / time means the distance where you shoot from to goal devided with the time the puck took to fly to that goal... Thats how for example speedhero hockey radar works and that formula has nothing to do with composite or wood stick...

  • @TheQneb cool

  • @signmeup00 Your talking about the speed it takes him to make the shot, not the speed at which the puck is traveling BIAOOOAATCHHH!!!!1!eleven!!!1!!!!11!one!!!1!

  • @signmeup00 Sorry but your wrong. The stick's weight and flex have nothing to do with the speed of the shot. What matters most is the combination of strength and technique, i.e. how much you can bend the stick and control the ensuing torque to control the shot. Lifting the stick up before the shot or any kind of big wind-up does not make a difference, unless you have trained your body to "focus" this way. It can be a little counter-intuitive, but I know this from studies.

  • "save or no save"? why would a goalie ever choose not to save the puck

  • @irishpride664 Lol goog one

  • i have those skates in white ! :D

  • nice skates hainsey

  • @skates 89 I'm pretty sure if I was gonna take advice from someone it would probably be from him cause he makes millions of dollars playing in the NHL I'm pretty sure he knows what he is doing.

  • If this guy really knew what he was doing you would see his left leg lift and snap out. This guy could get a whole lot more out of his shot and it is another poor demonstration of a shot sorry

  • @skates89 umm last time i checked, he plays in the nhl, you dont...

so when you make it to the nhl, you can speak

  • @xxdethpallyxx Sorry dont have to play in the NHL to know that is a weak demonstration of a shot. Trust me there are countless talented people walking this planet. His shot is a very poor demonstration period. Dont take it to heart and let it bother you so much. Some people just know what they are talking about and Im one of them lol

  • are you serious? you just said the flex is the key point. composites have a better flex than wood. thanks for contradicting yourself in less than a minute

  • what the fuck? I can't think 100mph and I have a composite stick and I can't do that

  • Com..posite stick eh

  • Its all about technique. Over the years I noticed staying low and leaning into the shot helps. Knees bent, shoulders loose, abs tensed up, swing!

I never went to hockey school and shoot harder than most men my age.

  • @MrHman33 Yep you have it right wheres the vid of your shot. Im 45 and you can take a look at mine. The exact technique your talking about. I have broken pucks stuck them in nets all the time and cracked goaltenders masks

  • uh yeah, the flexing the stick thing? well you don't think about it while you're doing it. so, i don't know, it's just instinct.

  • great iv

  • pronounce composite right....

  • @owenboen67 he did, the 'murican way--the only way.

  • bar dizzy

  • dumbass doesnt know how to say composite.

  • @penguinthree

lol classic, I had to com pose it there for a sec.

  • Go Jackets!

  • If anyone wants to really improve their slapshot we are doing a slapshot challenge on our youtube channel. We have a bunch of hockey tips as well.

  • i can do better then that

  • @moondo123456

Is what why he's in the NHL and you're just a Youtube user?

  • @moondo123456 pfft shut the fuck up

  • Can't do these. Backhands are really ass easy and same with wrist shots. but they get boring lol.

  • I have been getting my slapshot speed up around 210. Not bad considering I just started trying I guess.

  • @DermochelysCoriacea

    Go fix your speedometer loser.

  • infact, a steel stick with no flex at all gives the best slap shots

  • I don't mean to toot my own horn but--toot, toot--I have a really hard shot, but I've always wanted to see how fast it is. I know it's not nearly as fast as 100mph, though I'd love to see how it compares.

Personally, I could never get used to a stick with a lot of flex. I use a composite with 100 flex and it works perfect, but I wonder how much faster my shot could be if I got used to one with a lot of flex. I recently bought a composite with 85 and even that was too much for me!

  • Im sorry but a composite stick helps a LOT. And it does add speed because of the flex.. look at the slapshots they had in the NHL in the 70's without them. Also Canada vs USA in 45 min. GO CANADA GO

  • fastest recorded slapshot was with a wood stick

  • itd be that much faster with a composite stick. its just science

  • if Al MacInnis can shoot the puck over 100 mph with wood and chara is shooting at 105. I doubt composites help alot.

  • its proven you douche composite slap shots are insane

  • @hockeyhary

    lol

  • @VegaK17 no souray uses a composite

  • I just put a slapshot video up in my channel. I will be adding a lot more hockey tips (that's the only thing I add to the channel) Drop by, say hi, subscribe if you like my videos!

  • camlpg.. Shut the hell up. Your an idiot! Haven't seen you name in the NHL shooting a 100 mph shot.

  • How far back you hit the ice depends on a lot of things. The more flex the stick has, and the stonger you are the further back you can hit the ice. It is all about loading the stick and building potential energy

  • Yeah Hainsey! CT represent!!!!!!

  • i wish i could delete that.

  • I like how everyone criticizes everything on instructional videos, and if theres nothing to criticize its word pronunciation. you dudes must have badass slapshots and obey the fuck out of speed limits. im compuhsitive

  • i think McCape has a faster shot or even Chad Kilger. I remebered once in a maple leafs skills comp Kilger recorded 1 at 106 miles per hour slap shot

  • say it with me:

    com-puh-sit

    thats how u say it.

    say it with him:

    com-poz-it

    See the difference?

  • lol dude he is saying it right.

  • You got me checking Ketarhero: Both are correct. "poz" is US. There's gair-edge and guh-rodge for garage. Depends on the dialect.

  • @acousticplanet4him Finally somone who doesnt slam me for a comment. i thank you for your insight, i didnt know about the erm... different ways to say it south of the 49th paralell

  • i hate how the narrator sais compozit. its composite not some stupid way to say it. compozit. composite. o ya, that wasnt 10 inches

  • I don't know how else you would say composite than how he says it...

  • Help me out here... so Ron moves his front (right) foot out towards the inside to the puck with weight transfer. Bringing the back (left) foot up is not as necessary since weight transfer is the focus? I cant wait to get on the ice Monday to practice the weight transfer!

  • Which ever way you shoot, that leg will be the leg you lift with the weight transfer. When the stick hits the ice before the puck it flexes and milliseconds before touching the puck, flexes back with massive force like a whip launching the puck at high speeds. Depending on how strong you are and how much you weigh will play big into how hard your slap shot will be.

  • 10 inches....bullshit....its only like 2 inches...10 inches will break your stick

  • im pretty sure golf clubs flex...

  • yeah they might do but not in the same way, a hockey stick hits the ice a few inches in front of the puck causing it to bend and flex where as a golf club hits the ball straight on and flexes for different reasons unknown to me

  • they do haha ive broken a few hah

  • @LOGiiKo they do

  • wohoh

  • WTH, im such a noob to hockey....but when he goes for a slapshot his stick impacts with the ice first then connects with the puck?!

  • yes

  • @twalsh90 yes it does

  • Yeah, the stick hits the ice early so that the force of the swing and the weight of the player combine to flex (bend) the stick. When the stick unbends it acts like a slingshot. Think bow & arrow.

  • @twalsh90 yes....

  • How come he's not ripping that puck from the blueline?

  • nice slo-mo

  • That was SO not 10 inches from the puck...

  • @mrh0ck3y well ill put my dick there and we will fin out if its 10 inches

  • @CrazyBlueElf wat dick, u have a hole

  • @skillaze215 dont talk about ur dad buddie..my dick is bigger and fatter then urs..dont hate cuz ppl that get made at ppl with big dicks means ur dick is smaller then 6 inches

  • @CrazyBlueElf stop imaganing u have a dick bro LOL

  • @mrh0ck3y Id say about 2 or 4

  • ha he has mission skates...cool

  • damn right, i have those skates 2

  • uhhh, dudes dumb, a composit flexes a hell of a lot more, which according to him would give him a harder shot...

  • actually, the higher the flex the better depending on how strong you are, say you're like fucking arnold schwarzeneggar (cant spell that for shit) you should rather take a say like, 30000 flex over a 100 flex since the 30000 flex would store more power and he's strong enough to make it flex for that power

  • dude those were some snipes

  • The technical question I have is do you hit the puck closer to the toe of the blade or more towards heel or the center of the blace?

  • the heel or center would be ideal for giving the puck lift

  • actually, right in between the heel and the middle is like perfect...if you get a chance, watch zdeno chara take his 105 mph slapper

  • center is the optimal place to hit the puck.

  • He wouldn't shoot as hard with a wooden stick for a simple reason:

the kick point isn't at the same place.

You can prefer and do better with a wooden stick, but you can notice if you change the puck simply won't travel as fast even if you pick similar flex because of this kick point.

    Also, it'll change your aim.

  • im 12, & my slapshot is 48 mph, i play on a "aaa" team

  • 48? thats b"aaa"d im 11 and got a 52 one

  • no.

  • com pozit...lol

  • No, it's "com·pos·ite". Look it up in any dictionary.

Alos, composite do speed up the shots, but only by a mild percentage. The real advantage is consistent flex.

I paly with wood though, that way I can feel the puck without looking at it.

  • im 14 and i can take a slap shot at almost 85mph but i do myne way diffrent

  • ... not even all the NHL players can hit that hard. youd be drafted in a hockey team camp by now

  • are u stoupid most nhl players can shoot at about 90 mph the hardest shot was like 105mph

  • Yup, Cap'n Z. Zdeno Chara.

  • I think souray got a 106 in the edmonton skills comp.

  • The average speed of an NHL players slapshot averages around 85MPH and that includes those who don't even shoot that often (e.g. Derek Boogard). Go to Minnesota, you'll see high schoolers who are averaging well into the 80's no problem.

  • high schoolers with a shot that fast? I know some kids who can do that, but their aim is terrible, shot speed is not all that important.

  • Your shot isn't 85, I can guarantee that. Maybe kmh.

  • mine is 0.8c

    c= speed of light :)

  • yea but it was top shelf, wish i could do that :(

  • yeah it did go fast but that was a bad slap shot cuz it was flappin

  • It was going straight, only slowering the camera made the puck look like it was flapping

  • Ty from that info :)

  • i used to touch the ice too near of the puck, i think it was about 2 inches, after i saw this video, i tried to touch the ice about 10 inches like they say and i must say i have a way better shot now.

    Thank you Mr.Hainsey !!

  • thats a fast shot

  • heel

  • What part of your blade do you hit the puck with?

  • Middle, and make sure you follow through and point the blade where you want the puck to end up goin...for wristers it's heel to toe to get that spin on it

  • Not a bad video, but quite vague. I will be coming out with a new video that explains the slap shot in more detail. Check it out.. tell me if you think its legit, thanks.

  • someone want to chat

    funny video lets chat l4

  • hey thins may sound stupid but im in my first year of hockey and i am having trouble lifting my slapshot if you have any tips please share with me

  • point your blade when taking the shot, how you hold your stick before you shot makes a huge difference. check your curve, make impact with the ice, and make sure you distribute all your weight to your front foot... don't be scared to put your weight into the stick.

  • to mpryan14 stupid reply system works once in a while

    dont worry

lots of people cant life their slapshots some even after years of hockey

its a hard shot in speed and dificulty

danzo is right andalso watch some videos on slap shots

    and dry watching wont help

    PRACTICE :)

    good luck matef

  • omg i feel so dump.......

i have been plying hockey for a year now and i just now figured out that in a slap shot ur supoused to hit the ice so the stick will bend and hit the puck.......not even jk o.O

  • ditto.

  • i no eh ?

  • why is this guy saying composite so weird?

  • We crazy Americans say composite like that.

  • oh, I've never heard it been said like that before :P

  • it depends on the flex of you stick, your weight, your speed and your weight transfer

  • yea but if u cut ur stick, that really effects the flex

  • the best huh? that's why you're just a bender online claiming to be the best?
