I'm in east coast (Delaware), and I too am seeing Arctic Monkeys on the 15th of October in Baltimore (Ram's Head). November 5th they're playing Newcastle UK. This will be my 3rd time seeing them. I was knocked out by there first album, best song writing I have heard in years with great riffs and song structures, so I was an instant fan. I actually love the way they are progressing album to album. I love the heavy/dark feel of Humbug, and I love the pop sense and heavy rock of this album.
I'm afraid You're absolutely right about Black Tar Heroin, the song sounds bright byitself - but - it should remind us about Kurt Cobain's early death. It's dedicated
to Cobain, I feel. What for Alex constructed this chain of associations? Probably he has some similiar problems -
just sometimes - I don't know exactly/// He looks happy -but who knows - smth
@VAverkina Do you think this is what the lyrics are really about? Have you read this elsewhere or is this just your opinion? It's very interesting, I'm glad to see someone has attempted to depict this song, it's one of the best on the album, and one of the best he has ever written in my opinion. I love depicting various songs and lyrics of Arctic's, some are harder than others.
@VAverkina Very true. I like your reasoning. They are also one of my favourite bands of the century, probably my overall favourite. Where are you from if you don't mind me asking? I'm going to see Arctics in November for the 5th time! Can't wait.
It' seems obvious to me, but I have to say that I think this song is about Black Tar Heroin and it makes me think of Kurt Cobain, Maybe they are singing about Kurt's affinity to Black Tar Heroin? Any comments?
Is it just me or does anyone notice that some songs (like this and e.g. Reckless Serenade) are played faster that on the album? I mean it's okay, but at concert it was a bit strange.
@TheFrankDive They changed the order of the songs, and they replaced Piledriver Waltz and Love Is A Laserquest with Teddy Picker and Crying Lightning.
The second verse sorta takes a anti BTH stance, "Does it help you stay up late?, Does it help you concentrate?, Does it tune you in, when you chew your chin?, Am I ruining your fun?, And you talk the talk alright, Do you walk the walk or catch the train?, You wanted it, you got it, but you don’t want it now."
So I believe he's sorta trying to make sense of why Kurt did what he did. This was only speculation on my part, didn't hear it from anyone, it's just that this song makes me think of Kurt because of that. I find it interesting that the short lead parts after the choruses and at the end sound more and more like Nirvana each time I hear it. Can anyone else hear it?

@10stokesy You know how Alex likes to hide away all details of his personal living, so we may just try to
guess smth about his habits/// The boys are on a hight of their capacities, they look fair-soul creatures - but
this choice of theme (Black Tar Heroin) is not occasional, I think, smth in their reality is closely connected
with this secret meaning/// Or what for they are singing about it? I hope the boys are quite right,I love them so. My favourite group of the century.
