  • I wish we could drive all the time with open headers cause like my chevy 350 with open headers sounds so mean and awesome

  • chevelle is the car to have. great style!! even the steering wheel is coo. thanks for sharing.

    peace!!!

  • what year Chevellle??? 68 or 69. more specs too.

  • @crushher1 its a customer/friends car. 69 SS396 car. car is pretty much stock. 489CI big block stroker, forged pistons, 10:1, scat crank and rods, comp mutha thumpr hyd. roller cam, comp. roller rockers, GM oval port heads with big valves and pocket ported, hooker headers, (now) single plane intake, 825 demon double pumper carb, modified HEI ignition. full 3" magnaflow exhaust with x pipe. th400 trans with ATI 3500 converter, 12 bolt rear, 3.42 posi.

  • @lakenormanspeed o-yea pretty much stock you lost that @ 489 none the less bitchin ride - thump on

  • @paul198094 thanks! I swear its just a 396 with a vacuum leak ;)

  • There it is! The PERFECT CAR. Looks bone stock. Runs like a monster.

  • @INTIMIDATOR3FAN

thanks! the guy who owns this car checks in from time to time and i hope he sees this. You described it perfectly...looks completely stock (even has tailpipes and factory style chrome tips now!) and goes like a SOB!

  • what kind of cam? its very nice

  • @slayer360150

thanks- Its a Comp cams mutha thump'r hydraulic roller.

  • @lakenormanspeed u know what duration and lift?

  • I got a 83 chevy truck were fixen up with a 350 chevy. Is that one in ur car. Does it hav a mutha thumpr cam shaft and a gear drive

  • @jfreakgaming13 no, this is a big block- 489 cubic inches. Yes this is the comp mutha thumper cam and cloyes double roller chain drive.

  • nice

  • people that own these kinda cars make me jealous. why the fuck do i have to be born in the time of life where theres hybrids around..FML

  • sounded good

  • You can rev it by touching the engine!?

  • @CleverDjembe yes through the throttle body? you can do that on every car you fool -.-

  • @mart229

Excuse me, I'm young and learning about cars. Why did you feel the need to insult me?

  • nice man sounds good im building a 73 pontiac ventura with a 400 makin about 500hp for my first car

  • That is a beautiful car.

  • God that's sexy

  • beautiful

  • wat the gear ratio in it

  • @Rhsgrad2011 12 bolt posi with 3.42s

  • everyone at my high school is crazy about getting the new camaro, or that stupid import shit, or the 350z. the new camaro is okay, but im the only only one there thats drivin up in black 79 trans am. no matter what people say, mine is better than all of theirs.

  • I'am buildind a 489 with 6.385 h beam rods, 4.250 stroke my cam is a comp cam xe274/286 552/555 lift with flat top mahle forged piston, my heads or 396 closed chamber the engine should be 9:5 to 1 compression also running ac,3:73 gears 3000 stall converter the car is 1970 impala that weighs 4500lbsplus,haven't put the engine together, only changes is the rotating kit, engine was just 454 what are your thoughts on my combo?

  • @smoppins7374 thats not far off from what this engine is. factory oval ports will starve a big 489 or 496 on top but will make a boat load of torque which is perfect, especially in a big impala. the xe274 is a great all-around cam- sound nice, make a lot of midrange power, and should rev to 5500 or so in a 489. Run a dual plane intake like a performer rpm, 750 or 800 holley and a good header- it will pull a house down! (This car will turn sideways @40mph, even with wimpy 3.42 gears)

  • @lakenormanspeed thanks alot for the info and the intake is the one i have already so I'll see how she turn out,and thanks again..............

  • @lakenormanspeed what do u think about a soild lift cam in my engine?the cam specs are 295/305 dur-dur@ .050 235/245 with 555/570 lift-110 lobe center.

  • @smoppins7374 sounds about right for a healthy street/strip build with a lot of midrange punch!

  • 1 person drives a prius

  • open headers is the way to go! nice

  • 489 ci??? What ..ya couldn't find a big engine?? : P

  • @trunk516 I know someone with a chevy 572 Ci and i know someone with two ~30CF(Cubic Feet) engines they do make bigger engines than what you may find in your aunts prius its just that most of these are used in something other than personal vehicles

  • All I can say is SEX, Hot fucking sticky sex. There is nothing on this planet better than the sound of a finely tuned muscle car that has a little something-something done to her. Beautiful.

Sounds like she's tuned dead on man, awesome.

  • nice response man, fucking thing runs good, bump start and carbed, not easy.

  • she is frating

  • I can sleep to that beautiful music

  • holi shit that babi girls got more balls under its hood than i do hair on mi nuts lol!

Fuk man nice ride! how much did you put into this conception

  • almost sounds like van halen's hot for teacher XD

  • nice CAM

  • Dude all i can say is wood and more like solid oak...lol Is a purrr not like any kitten.

  • dam i need a car like that.

  • i tell ya!; there is nothing like the musical "notes" coming from a big block such as this bad ass big block!!!: Pure unadultered american muscle!!!; gotta love it!!! nice car and sweet engine man!!! :)

  • mrmopar455 dang that sounds nice

  • How do you know if the cam is good as mentioned in video title

  • 'nice' in the video title is in reference to the sound quality, which is what the comp thump'r series is ground for. it also performs well, as evidenced by the dyno numbers.

  • @lakenormanspeed do you have h beam rods?if so did you have to do any notching to your block.....getting ready to do one myself so any info would be helpful, yours sound awesome!!!!!!!!!!

  • @smoppins7374 This one has scat 4340 I beams with capscrews and I still had to do a little clearancing.

All the stroked BBCs ive built have needed at least a little grinding on the bottom of the cylinders to clear. its not a bad job, just take your time, and dont go any deeper than necessary.....hitting water will ruin your day.

  • @sumeet236 listen to that clean chop yo

  • Man I love high compression BB with thumper cams. The most beautiful sound God gave man...(Wipes tear from eye.) lol

  • Rock n roll man, love the car and sound

  • is this lake norman/mooresville NC?

  • yep!

  • wow man i live there lol, i stay more in the hickory area. you have a website?

  • got that thing running beautifully! i see so many cars at shows that run so rough and its just not impressive but this is awesome!.

  • Holy Christ that sounds mean and hit's immediately on throttle...nice~~!

  • thats how an engine should start.....all it takes is an engine builder who knows what hes doing ;o)

  • @lakenormanspeed mostly a well tuned carburetor. :P Beautiful car though.

  • that motor is balanced good...it dont shake...makes for good power

  • I balance them down to .5gm on the pistons and rods, pour bobweights to .1gm, and spin the cranks to <2gm......makes for a VERY smoothe runner!

  • that thing is beautiful. i love how easily it started!

  • I have a chevelle and my engine builder is building me a 489 with 10.1 dart heads solid lift cam .He said pump gas is no problem 93 octane. hope it sounds like yours excellent

  • are you running dart aluminum heads or Iron eagles? 10:1 should be fine with iron heads- especially if that solid cam is a decent size. If youre running aluminum heads, you could almost run 87 octane at 10:1 LOL. (im building a pump gas 496 for my own car right now......aluminum heads, BIG solid flat tappet cam, and 11:1- 93 octane will be fine in it)

  • i thinks u have a blow spark hahaha.. im not american muscle lover.. i have jdm power.. but this car realy its god to make cry some hondas hehe. and say in the redlight my live goes in 10sec or less hahaha

  • what the hell did you just say? lol

  • hahaha lol.. sorry but im from venezuela.. i speak spanish.. but about the last words do u remember the part when toreto run with brian and he says taht? in fast and forius? well hahaha

  • Yeah, hey atleast you have an excuse for not making sense! lol Sometimes people with English as their first language make absolutely no sense in their comments. Have a nice evening

  • it goes like this"i live me life a quarter of a mile at a time.... for those ten seconds or less i'm free:D

  • jajaj lol thanks.. that what im talking about

  • Sounds like the beginning of "Hot for Teacher" :D

  • omg this is soo beastly!!! i just started cracking out laughing idk why! just the pure power reverberating my entire room just... bam

  • With a 532/524lift and 298/292advertised duration solid lift cam with 1.5 and 1.6 rockers I had to run cam2 If not it would ping and rattle you to death! I was told that with the same piston and heads if I had not used the longer stroke and rod it would have been on the edge of running racing fuel with around 10.1 compression so that should tell some that it doesn't take much to put yourself in a weekend warrior only unless your pockets are deep with gas$ I had to sell car cause of that error

  • exactly! Believe it or not, if your parts are matched properly (heads, cam, intake, etc...) you dont need a ton of compression to make good power. Compresion increases are normally done to offset the late closing intake with a major cam. Its all about cylinder pressure! small cam + 10:1 = race gas, but ive built many 11:1 engines that ran fine on pump gas......they had nasty cams in them!

  • I understand where you are coming from lakenorman! I recently put together a 350 that was punched 0.060 had a 3.50 stroke crank and a 6in rod and the guys that machined all my stuff told me that the rod length was of no gain in cubic inches before I was told how it works I asked how much more cubes would I get using the 6 in rod and they were like "It's gonna be 360-362 regardless of rod length" Was told that the cubes are coming from the crank and bore and with a dome of 100ths and a 62cc head

  • Any luck with the Demon carburetor? My speed demon was defective and I had to send it back to jegs. Looked awesome

  • I have used a few demon carbs and they all have worked flawless, right out of the box. You must have gotten one that was finished up at 5pm on friday LOL.

  • lol. Glad to hear you had good luck with them. I had high hopes beause it was a crate carburetor to.. Ended up with a edelbrock 1406 which has given me almost 30 extra miles in a tank over the Demon.

Your chevelle sounds beast! Always fun starting a engine with open headers. Should get a cutout for it.

  • woooof..thats a biggin

  • sick

  • what kind of motor is that?

  • this is a MILD STREET ENGINE, which means NO lightweight parts, AND a heavy 10 inch converter to boot. It responds VERY well actually........

  • some of you guys are great! How in the world have I built engines for the last 20+ years without all your help? LOL

  • If connecting rod length has nothing to do with stroke, then you're defying the definition of stroke itself. After all, what is stroke? How far up and down the piston can travel in the cylinder. Now with a longer connecting rod... how WOULDN'T your piston be traveling further up and down..? I've stroked a 350 with longer connecting rods before.. kept the same crank. Then I needed to run a higher octane because a higher compression ratio.. what does that tell you? The piston is moving up further.

  • mate, you've just contradicted yourself. Yes your piston moves up further now with a longer rod, but it doesn't return to the same place anymore, it's just moved the stroke of the piston higher up the cylinder.

  • You're still running a higher compression ratio though. In a naturally aspirated engine, you're gonna get more power with a tighter space to combust your air/fuel mixture which is gonna increase performance. How else can you explain why racing fuel has a higher octane? (If you're using gasoline that is of course.)

  • youre absolutely right...it would raise your compression, but you still have to change pistons with a higher wrist pin location when you run a longer rod.....deck height will limit you, depending on engine type and its factory deck height. Most are .020-.060 'in the hole' and that much added to a rod will do nothing for power.

  • DZ- think about this- for example a 350 chevy.....3.48 stroke and a 5.7 inch rod. If you go to, lets say, a 6 inch rod, the piston will now be .300 higher in the block at the top of the stroke........it will also be .300 higher at the bottom of the stroke......therefore you have gained nothing......3.48 is 3.48 TDC to BDC, even if you had 4 foot long connecting rod. Not trying to be a smartass man, just rying to explain it better. ONLY the crank determines stroke.

  • You better take that thing to Pep Boys! They'll fix it for you.

  • yeah...theyll plug it right into their little scanner, right? theyre not going to be able to get the correct parts if I dont give them the color of the car or tire pressures though LOL

  • Man, that thing sounds terrible. Do you have a vacuum leak? Check for loose spark plug wires.

  • you are a idiot my friend a complete idiot

  • HAHAHA, check your spark plug wires everybody! Otherwise you may end up with a terrible vacuum leak!! LMAO

  • you mean the firing order isnt 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8?

  • No, the firing order for any small block Chevy is 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2.

I have worked on a Dodge Intrepid though with the firing order being 1,2,3,4,5,6! I couldn't believe it but the thing idles smooth as silk at 500 RPM's when up to temp.

  • OMG that is sooooo detrimental to the environment....who cares it makes a sweet car go fast...lol LOVE IT

  • YUMMIE>>>>>A+

  • my nova sounded like that when my carb took a shit and the secondaries were dumping fuel constiantly haha. sounded like a prostock car. ur car sounds great. i h8 mufflers

  • oooohh... you know, i've driven boosted hondas and really fast v6 beasts, but you just can't beat the sound from one of these... almost makes you orgasm, doesn't it? XD

  • esta bie bonito su auto serca de mi casauna persona mayor tiene uno original lo tiene abandonado me da coraje es para que andubiera rodandob es otra cosa ese modelo hrmosillo sonora

  • and also, how do you get a bigger displacement like that with a 454 block? can you make a 7.4l a 7.6l? isn't it as easy at getting longer cranks or something?

  • yes its a 454 block. the stroke on a 454 is 4 inch, these kits are 4.25 stroke. std. bore would be a 482, .030 over is a 489, .060 over is a 496, etc... if you have a good block its possible to go .100 over or more, and get you up over 500ci.

  • so boring it is making it wider, and stroking it is making it longer correct? so what would a 468 be? also, is it expensive to get your block machined to get more cubic inches?

  • Boring is making the cylinder larger, and stroke is how far up/down it moves.

It can be fairly expensive to get a block machined, but instead of incresing the bore, you could always increase the stroke, which may or may not be more expensive. (Never looked into it, as I'm 17 and can't afford either.)

  • yeah, stroking is better because the longer the stroke the more powerful the twist ie. TORQUE

  • However it does reduce how high your engine revs, although that shouldn't ever really be that much of an issue, unless you are really that ignorant to go through with the stroking and not research it.

  • yep. thats what they call "camming". different camshafts have different strokes.

  • That's not stroking an engine. Stroking an engine involves changing the crankshaft, and possibly the heads. Camming involves switching out camshafts with different lifts and durations.

  • No, you're wrong as well. Stroking involves new connecting rods, which in the case of stroking an engine, you're getting longer ones.. a.k.a.. a bigger stroke..

  • Stroking is putting in a bigger crankshaft, you might need longer rods.

  • Not necessarily. You CAN use a bigger crankshaft, but as a simpler method, longer connecting rods with the same crank will increase your crank throw. After all, stroking is just increasing crank throw.. and you can achieve this with longer rods.

  • connecting rod length has nothing to do with the stroke- only the crank will change the stroke. very common misunderstanding. But I like all your comments, so dont be offended LOL.

  • yep!

  • (Never looked into it, as I'm 17 and can't afford either.)

Really, well quit telling him how to build a car as your only 17 and your opinion is invalid

  • is that a 454 block?

  • i just bought a 85 chev c10 and i was just wonderin wut open headers mean?

  • just exhaust with no pipes

  • It means use the internet and get a chain driven bike.

  • wow buddy someone has a life. some people are just gettin there first car and u have to be a big asshole about it. pretty cool i must admit. your probably like 40 whackin off to this. stupid fuck

  • its when you run the engine without any exhaust system- just the headers opening up to the air.

  • wouldnt u need back pressure tho?

  • not for drag racing full exaust robs horsepower when drag racing but ppl also do open headers bc its damn loud and deep sound

  • do u need a full system for it to pass e test and certifecation?

  • yes u do you can buy what they call electric cutouts and you can have full exaust system with open headers google does a bad job on explaining this..try like patriot exuast cutout there a company that makes what im trying to explain but more in depth

  • Just the manifolds, no exhaust pipe going down towards the back. Althought it can burn exhaust valves because it's sucking so much cold air when the valves are boiling hot. It's the same thing with windows. If its -30 outside and windows get instant heat they will shatter at a certain temp.

  • well its actually more than just the manifolds. true, if you ran an engine with no headers at all, it would be open manifolds and would burn your valves. open headers is just no exhaust system attached to the open pipes from the manifolds.

  • i jus popped a boner lookin at that sexy beast

  • what cam and specs..

  • 11-601-8 mutha thumper hyd. roller (291/311, 235/249, .558/.542, 107LSA)

  • holy hell that's a big duration.. did you measure that with a dial indicator? Awesome ride man, you did a fantastic job!

  • no...with a degree wheel LOL. the cam really isnt that huge.. they grind them with a lot of overlap and an early exhaust opening to give it that nasty idle. believe it or not, this thing behaves like a very mild cam as far as street manners!

  • dude this vid made me jizz my pants a little awesome car awesome engine kudos

  • I have the same valve covers on my engine. Sexy Beast!

  • how many mpg do you get??

  • it will get 11-12 if hes easy on the gas. hammering on it around town will turn to about 7 or 8 pretty quick.

  • thanks for the info

  • sounds nice, like the sound of that cam!

  • that sounds pretty good, what kind of cam does it have

  • sounds great

  • sounds awesome!

  • hmmm....call the customer, borrow this car, drive halfway across the country to prove you wrong, just to be a keyboard hero?

    naah........

  • lol c`mon it would be a good challenge...heck il meet u half way!! lmao!!

  • wow karrar55..... you just took stupid ass to a whole new level....

  • uhhhhh!!! u know im joking? right?

  • with all the dumbasses on youtube sometimes it's hard to tell lol. sorry.

  • not a problem.....i guess!

  • That cam sound SICK! I love that cackle. D~

  • Got it in my favorites list. That is exactly how an engine should start. Nice car. :)

  • Man that thing is RIGHT! It didn't even roll over a full time and it was freakin running. What is your timing set at total?

  • I believe this one was around 16 at idle and 35 total. some extra initial timing makes a HUGE difference if the engine has a big cam!

  • GET A DAUL CARB

  • 825 cfm single carb is plenty for this engine

  • Why would ANYONE need dual carbs in this day and age when you can buy 1000+ CFM carbs?

  • like how much was everything dat u put on the engine?? money wise... plz ms g back

  • dude u gota have i light fly wheel in it lol

  • SFI flexplate and ATI 10" converter.....shes real responsive, even with fairly heavy parts.

  • what kind of cam

  • It's inspires me every time i see a cool car like this, why couldn't Don Yenko have made a special Yenko-Chevelle 454 70-, like he did to the Camaro, it's something that he should have made, why not make a car like that could have been made, if it really were made?

Like, all alluminium 454 Ls7 block, sharper cam, better heads, either 3x2 carbs or dual holley 800/850 Dp 4bbl carbs, the big scoop but with the corvette bigblock scoop from 68-69-, disk brakes in front, e.t.c, that would be cool.

  • IF you compare the LS6 and the LS7 versions of the 454 Bigblock engine, what is the diffirences between those engine, is the LS7 version much more powerfull than the LS6 or?

And, can they be equipped with 3x2 carburators?

  • im not sure exactly what was in the LS7- someone will probably see this and chime in. The LS6 had 4 bolt mains, 7/16 rods, forged internals,a solid cam, 11.25:1s, rectangle port heads, hi rise dual plane intake and a 800 Holley. None of them would have had a 3x2 setup from the factory, but a 427/435hp vette setup will bolt right on.

  • Well i saw a picture of a LS7 454 with triple carbs, like 3x2 setup, dunno if it was real or anything like that, but it looked great :)

  • Yeah I've seen that pic of the LS7. It was a b&w pic with the 3x2 setup. It didn't look like a real pic. That engine was an over the counter only engine. It was supposed to go in a 70's model corvette, but it was too much for it. It was more powerful than the LS6. It was said to only be rated at 465 or 485hp. I believe it had 12:1. I had one in a 71 chevelle. But it was fixed up a bit. I just can't find a whole lot on the specs of that motor.

  • There were several 454 variants. The 450horsepower LS6 454 never made it into the Corvette for 70 but was an option in the Chevelle. The LS6 showed up as an option for the 71 Corvette but was detuned to 425 horsepower. Even more exotic was the LS7 454 rated at 465 horsepower. This option was listed in the Corvette shop specs but only one was officially made. The LS7 was a stroked version of the L88. Supposedly Duntov gave a wry wink, and signed the order to have all LS7 prototypes destroyed.

  • 1969-70 Solid .560I/.600E lift .262I/.273E 135 deg overLap, 427 ZL-1, 454 LS-7

  • How in the world do u get a 489???

  • 454 block, 30 over, and a 4.25 stroke crank. same as the more popular 496, but 30 instead of 60 on the bores.

  • well it sounds really good that is a nice car

  • sounds clean what are the specs on your cam?

  • its a comp. mutha thump'r hyd. roller.

    235/249@.050, .558/.542 on a 107 lobe sep.

  • did you go with a hydrolic roller over a solid roller for streetability, and less maintaince?

  • yep! no wear or adjustment issues. this is a 100% street engine.

  • sounds like a nice piece. My 1972 Nova has a 355ci with a Solid Lift Flat Tappet Cam. Its makes Great Power Through the whole RPM Range... but Adjustment is a bitch. oh well lol
