  • can someone upload this video with subtitles? please..

  • DAMN speak english.. sorry, just would like to hear what they are saying.

  • There are other languages on Earth appart from English...

  • the poor little girl needs tobe laid to rest not in a glass bloody case for people to stare i think is sick simple as. R.I.P rosalia

  • She was laid to rest, the catacombs is designed to be a resting place and a cemetery. She was the last to be interred there. It is just unfortunate that it has now become a tourist attraction.

  • why was she put on display how cruel could fahmida be

  • She's not "on display" per se; she rests in the King's Capuchins Catacombs in Palermo, Italy. She was embalmed using a special process which has since been lost. No one is buried in the Catacombs any more; they are now a tourist attraction.

You can read more about the catacombs here: motomom[dot]tripod[dot]com/index-3[dot]html

  • any idea where i can find more information in english? (apart from the link you supplied). you say the process has been lost. any ideas how this happened? do you know when the little girl was interred. the embalming process must have been unique or is the catacmb at a controlled temperature?

  • It's amazing how they preserved her body. They didn't even use any poison! And she was born 80 years ago. I wonder what she will look like in 20 more years.

She was supposed to be 82..RIP Rosalia

  • aww poor thing. why has she been put on display? she shud be in a nice little grave surrounded by flowers x

  • who was she x

  • LikkleLaraa,

Her parents had her embalmed. They didn't have her burried. Ceremonial burrial was obviously common, but the fact that they had her embalmed and put in the Sicily Crypts says something. Something like - that's how they wanted it.

  • english?

  • i try to translate, Rosalia Lombardo is died in 1920 at 2 yrs for pneumonia in Palermo : Sicily, her body is conserved in a crYpte of capucines in Palermo, was embalmed by a pharmacist: doct: Salafia and made a stir on american press for perfection, she 's embalmed with a secret formula

  • i try to translate

  • She's just like an antique doll......

  • I speak in english I will try to write this in Italian. Ale13376 That was great the way you showed snow white and sleeping beauty , it reminds me of the Italian bell Rosalia.

  • rip rosalia, what a beautiful child!

  • actually dude this were especial funeral no ordinary funeral pretty child had to go away :(

She looks so peaceful and beautiful...

    R.I.P little Sleeping Beauty

  • The dead can't talk, so ...

  • Muy interesante video. gracias por compartirlo. Rosalia un bello e inocente angelito.

  • the man that was able to keep her body in tact took the formula with him to his grave.

she deserves a proper burial, but this was the culture at the time. if you go to where she's kept, you'll see about 8 thousand other bodies hung up on the walls around her. she's not just on display because of how in tact she is, she's on display because that was what they did, it was seen as an honour.

you seem to think that only she deserves a proper burial, what about all the other bodies?

  • Maybe is a doll :)

  • That's exactly what the X ray excluded! :-)

  • no shes real go to the webpage to see alot of them still look like that..

  • This one isnt a doll but if you check out the videos,Incorrupt bodies of saints,or something like that, you will see many fake ones. Lots of dolls!

  • according to the national geographic February 2009..they did an Xray and it revealed that the body is real-its organ is even in excellent shape!

  • Strange huh? Even an atheist like me is freaked.

  • They also found out the formula that has been lost since Salafia died in 1933. Someone tracked down a handwriten paper with the ingredients. They include formalin to kill bacteria, alcohol to dry the body, glycerin to keep it from drying too much, salicylic acid to kill fungi, and zinc salts to make the body rigid. That's why little Rosalia's body was so well preserved; the zinc salts. They made her body rigid. You could set her upright and she would stand. Still, she's a beautiful little girl.

  • life and death its a strange thing.

  • amazing...

  • God bless her!

  • beautiful!

  • Love Rosalia :)

  • Am i the only person who thinks she deserves a proper burial and not to be put out on display?

  • I also think that she deserves a proper burial, poor girl, bury her next to her parents

  • no i think that 2

  • no you are not, I share your point of view.

    Same about pompeii.

  • But in her day of age, this was a proper burial. This is how they did it. So I think she should be left as she is.

  • thats just not right.she should be buried away.not in a glass case with fitting either side of her.i nearly cried.

  • ARSENIC!

  • SOrry, i don't think so.

  • Exactly what they said.

  • Rosalia's face still looks good but I read an article that her body is decomposed badly, and this is why she's bundled up all he way to her head In those days, alot of children died from plagues , like "influenza" Such a beautiful little girl!

  • Her body's perfect just like her face. That's what the x-ray the doctors made on her last july say. :-)

  • It's amazing, she's been dead for almost 90 years but looks like she dozed off a few minutes ago...

  • x 1martuska: Hello, I would like to read the same article! I can assure you that Rosalia was totally exhibited to the public in the past because I have seen her in the early seventy. Very probably she was covered up to the head around the middle ninety (1995) because she started to decomposePlease send me the article or at least some references. I would be very grateful to you. Thanks.

  • Hello, as i' ve already said, Rosalia's body is perfect under that sheet. I can say that 'cause i saw the x ray made on her on the 3rd of July 2008.

And Rosalia's sister told me that she was never totally exhibited to the public. :-(

  • "Rosalia is displayed at a slight angle in a small casket with a trasparent top. She is wearing a light-colored, frilly dress, and her reddish-brown hair is arranged in ringlets". Christine Quigley, Modern Mummies pag.54, reporting John Strausbaugh, editor of the New York Press (letter to author, February 1996)

  • I'll ask Dario, since he' s in touch with Melissa Johnson and C. Quigley. I'll let you know asap. :-)

  • Another quote reporting Rosallia's dress (sorry in italian)

Valerio Corzani Lonely Planet: Londra, pag 140

  • The body has always been as it is now, covered. You will find the proof in a book due to publication next march, by Dr Piombino-Mascali. He was able to use many old pictures of the child that the family gave us when I met them a couple of weeks ago, and was very lucky that his book was not printed yet, so that all this new information we obtained by interviewing Rosalia's family could be included.

  • A great amount of information will also be revealed on National Geographic Channel, on February 3rd , 2009 in a program called "Italy's mystery mummies", featuring Dario and Melissa Johnson, as well as on National Geographic Magazine, February Issue, coming out January 28th. Cheers.

  • just read it.. its kinda creep-mysterious...

  • I read about Rosalia Lombardo. I don't know her cause of death but I know she died in 1920. even now I'm amazed she isn't a dried-up corpse. I don't know what chemicals were used to preserve her but this is years ahead of its time

  • boredstudent - I have heard variously that she died of a bronchial infection and that she had diphtheria. Alfredo Salafia used a proprietary embalming formula (probably based on or combining existing ones). Legend has it that he didn't pass it on, but he probably did -- no reason not to.

  • Rosalia Lombardo. That';s probably one of the best embalming jobs I've ever seen.

  • She looks so beautiful!

  • That she does. She looks like a little doll.

Poi, girando qui a caso, fortunatamente, mi sn imbattuta in qst video.

Chi erano i genitori?E chi era Alfredo Salafia?

  • Ciao, ti ho risposto in privato.

  • fa impressione guardare questi dal vivo imbalsamati

  • Whoa amazing work!! Didn't understand it, but still it's astonishing how that man preserved the child's body.

    ciao

  • Qué suerte, no pudrirse!

  • Interessante

  • She sleeps like a angel....

  • Rest in peace forever little girl.
