  • I go on one video and there are people complaining about keeping big fish, then I go on another and they say that the fish is to small, if its legal then he can keep whatever size he wants.

  • wow really? -.- use the tip of your knife for the blood line...

  • Used toothbrush! How about a cheap new toothbrush.

  • incision ?? your decapitating the dam fish lol

  • 1. the fish u clean is so small that kids on 4 years catch them with net in small rivers at 3 cm dep

    2. there are other ways to clean trout

    3. good idea with the toothbrush for the blood line

  • Fantastic!!! Thank you!!

  • all youll have is nice pink meat lol

  • toothbrush? use your finger man, 10 times faster and cleaner

  • I thought this was the pitcher Randy Johnson....dang.

  • @caboose41 Same what a disappointment

  • @caboose41 we all did :(

  • LOL a toothbrush..come on really?

  • Thanks. This was very helpful since we got our quote of trout and we needed a refresher on how to clean them.

  • Guys, that's not a "blood line," it's the kidney, and seriously, who uses a toothbrush to clean it out? Hahah, wussy!

  • Small one init.. Usefull vid. I caught 4 today, quite big ones, about 1.7 ft 2lbs. Do you know if its bad if there are small white worms in the gut but not the fillet. I cleaned them out and its completely worm free. Any advice please?

  • @LowerComptonLad HOw did that work for ya? eat the fish anyways?

  • How do ya catch them in a small stream

  • u can just run ur finger down that bloodline and take it out in one shot...no need for a toothbrush

  • you do not need to cut the head off it just depends on if you want it on or not it is perfectly fine to leave it on. and you also do not need a toothbrush at all just score the blood line then place you thumb in the cut then use your thumbnail to remove blood line. this makes it possible to clean you fish where you catch it!

  • dont forget to floss

  • You don't want to have the bloodline, who has a bad effect on the taste, so you'll use a USED toothbrush that has been inside some randoms mouth several time.

Dude, you don't really need a toothbrush or a fancy waterbucket. Use the same water that you caught the fish in to clean it, and for gods sake use your own fingers to tear out the bloodline.

Be a man, not a toothbrush fixated smalltrout type og guy=)

  • Great video. short and no BS.

  • An old spoon works really well for taking the blood line out too.

  • Wouldn't it be easier to just run your thumg up the bloodline

  • Interesting idea with the toothbrush... we've always used a teaspoon. Does the toothbush still work OK on normal sized trout? Must try your idea.... Thanks

  • thats the smallest rainbow trout i have ever seen in my life

  • thnk god im not a fish even tho ull be dead

  • Thank you! I was given two rainbow trout today and have never gutted a fish before! Your method was really easy to follow - Success! :D

  • You look taller on the pitchers mound.

  • interesting trick with the toothbrush!

  • Pepsident Trout...yuk!!!

  • haha Why's it got to be a USED toothbrush. that trout deserves the best. THE BEST

  • I always clean it with the head on, that way when u skin it all you have to do is peel the head back and the skin comes right with it

  • just leave the black stuff on

  • @thejanitorssuccess he said if affects the taste

  • What happened to the mullet?

  • thanks man my grandma forgot to clean any of the catches and i accidently ate a nightcrawler

  • takes me 10 seconds my way. this way is whack

  • I don't brush my teeth, so I don't have a used toothbrush

  • stocked trout... wild trout are white on the inside

  • I see people use toothbrushes alot but if you just rub your finger back and fourth roughly while rinseing you can get it out.

  • and when your done place your brothers tooth brush back in the bathroom.

  • what about taking the skin off im just a beginner at trout fishing and i really need to know today!

  • @kenslee1234 You don't really need to remove the skin from a trout, they have very small, soft scales, and the skin is edible. If you really feel you need to, after gutting, snap the head back and peel it like a banana almost, but you have a pretty good chance of screwing up your meat when you do this since the skin is fragile and hard to detach from the meat. i would know, we screwed up a pretty nice size rainbow last year trying to skin it.

  • Hi! I've been catching trout for many years. I've learned that if you cook the trout with the heart still on the fish, they taste 10 times better. The trout's heart is located on the left side of the trout and near the gill plate. When you remove the trout's head, like you did in this video, you removed the heart. Cook the trout with the head on and remove the head before you serve it. Some people can't handle seeing the head on it before they eat it. Try it both ways and you'll see what I mean.

  • damit u stole my Toothbrush

  • Thanks for posting this!! I tried it and wow it was simple to do (first time I've ever cleaned fish). What's more, the toothbrush worked and the trout didn't have that muddy taste that freshwater fish usually has.

  • @gentleradical trout is a freshwater fish dumbass

  • @bubster50 not all trout are freshwater fish, dumbass.

  • @bubster50 actually, I caught rainbows and speckled sea trout frequently in the gulf and surrounding bays.

  • @bubster50 lol your the dumb ass he knows its a freshwater fish why dont you read it better next time its better then making your self look like an asshole

  • use your thumb nail for the blood line!

  • small trouts like those should be thrown back to the water...

  • no! ... i do it better

  • hey quick question, if you do it that way can you still fillet it?

  • Thank you for the tutorial...

  • Can I re-used the toothbrush?

  • I always just used my hands. never tried a toothbrush. a great idea though! i will try next time I get some trout.

  • Can we put toothpaste ?

  • the kidney DO NOT span the entire length of the spine...and only a certain fish have the bloodline like that!

  • Lol, my mother used my toothbrush. :|

  • Its not a bloodline! Its the fishes kidney!

  • @HarterFall: it is not the kidney or the blood line, it is the spleen.

  • i start at the hole and then the head.

  • I just stick a finger in the end of the air bag and run down the spine, wash it out in the sink, Yes, I bring them home and clean in the kitchen sink..lol

  • I tried this, but after I used the toothbrush, I still had to brush my teeth. :( I had to wash it really good.

  • why would u use a personal brush for cleaning a fish... wow

  • That would not happen here in Alaska. Enough said!!!

  • I've used bigger fish as bait! I don't even want to think about the fines you'd get for keeping those things up here...

and seriously... a toothbrush for the blood line? use your thumb pansy!

  • @treethug THere is no minimum size for rainbow trout treethug - at least not in Massachusetts.

  • @treethug In OH there is no size limit for trout, and in PA it needs to be >7 Inches. I'm pretty sure that little dude is legal.

  • @treethug

    Rainbow trout aren't very big

  • @treethug

    Smaller ones taste better, douche

  • @treethug thumb doesnt get in there like a tooth brush, far more effective.

  • @treethug Good for you?

  • Next, wrap it up in tinfoil with some butter, garlic, touch of lemon, salt and pepper to taste and toss it on the fire!!!

  • a used toothbrush?!! Yuk! why not just a new designated toothbrush for cleaning fish; they are only a couple of bucks...

  • how about releasing them so u can catch them again????

  • that would be playing with your food,

and a waste of time. its a really stupid question.

  • Or, you can eat them cause they taste good with lemon, and they're healthy

  • easy peasy. next step is to cook it just the way it is. bread it and fry it in butter. once it is cooked the bones separate from the meat.

  • "Lemon squeezy" sorks so well here because we are talking about trout.

  • Way too complicated.

  • that hole is its poop-chute

  • i just use my thumb to bust the blood line

  • can u just use at least a brand new toothbrush..?

  • he makes it way too complicated. . . There's no need to use a tooth brush to get rid of the blood. Hold the gutted trout in one hand with the tail towards your body and the missing head away from you. Put a thumb in as far towards the tail (near the cloaca- that hole you stuck the knife in) and slide your nail the whole way to the missing head. The back of your nail will push it all out, and you won't even end up with any stuck under your nail. Then just rinse it, and it all rinses out..

  • i was just about to suggest that! much easier!!!

  • Yea that's how I do it.

  • Trout do have scales and a lot of bones, but the easiest thing to do is to cook them as he shows the cleaned one here. Then, when it's cooked you can easily scrap the skin off and carefully pull the meat away from the bones.

  • What about the scales? Do I need to scrape off the scales?

  • trout dont really have scales, so no you can cook it and the skin will fall right off

  • yes, scrape those scales off. I use the knife that im gutting em with. Just scrape the skin and you'll see the shiny scales start to scrap off. Only takes a minute or two to de-scale em.

  • I never scrape off the scales. Trout scales are so small and generally the skin isn't eaten anyway, the scales just come off with the skin.

  • yes you need to scrape of the scales. You can clean out a trout while catching them in lake water

  • no you dont, after you cook them the skin peels right off.

  • when you catch a fish do you start gutting while its alive or do you wait till its dead?

  • it's usually dead by the time you get home

  • most people just knock it's head on a rock

  • Gollum...Gollum...

  • Sucks to be a fish. Natures cannon fodder.

  • What do you mean?

  • I agree.. thumb works best for a "qucik clean" he is right about the taste being tainted, but for a shore lunch it sure doesnt matter...

  • i just use my thumb and start at the bottom and run it up to to the top to get that "mud vein" out as we call em

  • this is great and simple for someone like me

i will need to fish for survibal and did not know the easist way to clean a trount thanks man!

  • If you need to fish for survival and dont know how to clean a trout, you need about 15 more years of training and you MIGHT live in an emergency survival situation.

  • Oral B- The best a fish can get

  • Trout are one of the best tasting fish i have ever tasted. Such a nutty and savory taste.

I'm catch and release though, specially since rainbow trout only live in special ponds here.

  • Never knew about the toothbrush thing. I would rather use a new toothbrush however, but that's just me.

  • nah we have respect for trout unlike you city people who catch fish and like to watch them suffer.

  • thanks

  • you can use your finger for the bloodline

  • Yeah but it's a pain in the ass to be thorough. The toothbrush is a great idea.

  • This guy is good! ;-)

  • one word: SUSHI!

  • Thanks dude

  • dont forget to use an old toothbrush kids lol

  • Good job

  • and this is how you clean non legal size trout... freakin power baiter....

  • GRODEY!

  • no not grodey "food"

  • i hope thats not my toothbrush...

  • SAVE THE FIISHYS SAVE THEM!

  • KICK THE HIPPIES KICK THEM!

  • Wow, looks like they are wild rainbow, pink meat!

  • yeah, I catch the trout I eat where do you get your fish?

  • That is how I clean all my trout from 6" brookies to 25" rainbows. Works great. If you don't have a toothbrush, you can use your thumb, but it doesn't work as well.

  • will dis method work 4 bigger fish 2???

  • no no, for bigger fish u will need: a 9mm gun, a bazooka, a meteore and 2 trucks...and yes, it`s the same method but using these simples elements...peace

  • can u clean a brookie this way?

  • I have cleaned trout for a long long time, and there are a lot easier way to go about it.

  • A "used toothbrush"? How about a new toothbrush not used!!

  • ya that works too

  • "ok...now that you've beheaded your fish..." HAHA!

  • You lied to us. You said that this was Randy Johnson.

  • get some good clean water and a toothbrush you used to scrub the toilet with lol

  • lol.

  • a used toothbrush why not a clean one .lol I wouldn't want to eat that fish lol

  • that was very good, also helped me with bass

  • awesome

  • beautifuly done

  • Yeah really it is good video.I haven't seen such operation of rainbow trout even at splashvision . com. Thanks for the video.

  • um, he doesnt look 6-10 tall to me, and not like the randy i know....

  • oh my god. I am queasy. How can you do that to a creature. I am nauseous. You sicko.

  • Not to be rude, but what did you expect to see when you clicked on a video entitled "How to Clean Rainbow Trout"? Of course there's going to be blood and guts.

  • ur not that much of a pussy are u. ur joking i hope.

  • if u kill the fish real quick after you catch it and make sure its dead, its pretty humane. so stop bitching

  • ok, but how do you remove the bones? i don't want to have ribs in there that people can choke on.

  • fish has bones?

  • I normally use my finger to clean it out but that can hurt if you are scraping the ribs of a bigger fish.

And does anyone know how to *effectively* get the head off of a grass carp?

  • Cleaver or machete.

  • Cut ou tthe gills, pull back taking all th einners out, leaving the head on...thumb nail/tbrush all works. Wrap in tin foil with butter oinions, garlic lemon pepper, throw on the coals, top with lemon and mmmmmmmmmgood.

  • it is an instructual video qrrrrdanz. and why would you be watching Mr.know it all.

  • Good effort on the video, but really it's a five second operation.

  • me too, since over 45 years my thumbnail s enough to do it, used toothbrush ..... ugly

  • umm..why use a "used" toothbrush?

  • LOOKS LIKE HIS KNIFE IS REALLY DULL!

  • The key here is to use the wifes toothbrush. the pink one

  • looks delicious

  • I've always just used my thumb to clear out the blood line. The toothbrush seems like overkill to me.
