  • #224 is amazing specially the Girl nice Feet. .!

  • Eugene and Maria forever!!!!!

  • Can anyone please tell me what the song is ? >< I know it i just can't get it! please please~!

  • @x3shashx3

    from letyll:

the song is "Mas que nada" by sergio mendez & Black Eyed Peas

  • By the way, it seems that they are not killing the samba. They are doing the same with Tango, a marvelous dance.

    watch?v=_cDf65VaYSE

Yah, you're write! As always, the world is wrong.

Tango, for you, is called International Tango....very well and you think that your criation is much better....

  • @Lia137

And no, neither of the dance style is "so much better". They're just different. This should be obvious to anyone who realizes the difference between social and competitive dancing. Really, it's not rocket science.

You also have a huge lack of faith in the strength of your culture if the international ballroom and latin discplines somehow manage to kill the root of their origins that have existed for far longer.

  • @Lia137

If you're suggesting that these people don't know how to dance then you're level of ignorance is reaching mind boggling levels. All of these dancers (even the worse ones) are technically far more advanced than ANY social samba dancer I've seen, and lead their girls much better as well. The only key difference is following the rhythm of the music instead of the beat, but that isn't a problem once you take away the competitive enviroment.

  • @AceyBlade

Do you know this book? Have you read it?

Glamour addiction: inside the American ballroom dance industry by Juliet E. McMains. I think the writer understands our feelings.

  • This is SAMBA:

    v=Z1iovTr3rT0

    Finally a Brazilian Samba:

    v=sIYYUIlzn-w

And, who wants to compete in this trash competition. First of all, the dancers have to unlearn how to dance!

  • @Lia137

This is the national championships for USA, and IIRC they had around 40-50 couples dancing in this category alone. In addition the most respected international competitions draw hundreds of couples per bracket, so yeah, a lot of people want to compete in these "trash competitions". I watched your links, and they once again provided watered down form of international latin.

  • So called "brazillians": what you are saying is like "Claude Monet's water lilies in his paintings are not really water lilies. We have a few in the park next to our home and they don't look exactly the same."

Stop acting like bigots and don't give all the brazilians a bad name. I know professional brazilian (from Brazil) samba dancers and teachers in California who love and admire ballroom samba.

  • I'll show you what is samba! You should change the name! Samba is much more than hip shaking! Just type Marcelo Chocolate and you'll see what is to dance samba! When you say that is just hip shaking, you've made a mistake. You just watch samba in Carnaval. Samba is much more than showed in Carnaval.

  • So sick of the brazillians complaining this is not samba. Your samba is hip shaking and nothing more. International samba took the beat and created something far more interesting and fun.

  • /watch?v=EfOCUrBescE latin n tango...

  • I don't like the way they dance. Why do their legs remain so rigid?

  • you obviously dont know anything about dancing

  • @Lia137

    "Rigid"

That's hilarious. You know what I think when I see brazilian samba?

Sloppy, undisciplined, uncompetitive, uninteresting, lack of any sort of contrast, lack of depth in movement, lack of complexity in movement. It's just social dancing.

I guess everything's relative. I won't be lecturing to you about why their legs are so rigid. It'd probably take me a good few years to have you understand it.

  • @AceyBlade You are wrong about samba. You just know what they show in Carnival. Samba is much more then this. You should watch Gafieira. GAFIEIRA is a ballroom dancing. I think it is wrong to use the word samba to name this kind of dance. Just it. Imagine to name the American tap like Irish tap dance. We don't like this. Change the name to latin dance or some stuff like that.

Here you can see what is samba ballroom. Just write MARCELO CHOCOLATE AND SHEILA. They dance samba!

  • @Lia137

And yet again you show a mind boggling lack of analytical abilities. Not that is surprises me. I've watched multiple samba dance styles and they're all just very, very watered down versions of the international latin one. There are several figures in common that we share (same timing and steps), but the execution is so different no brazilian _social_ dancer will recognise them.

  • @Lia137

And yes, the brazilian samba is undisciplined, uncompetitive, lacks dynamics and depth movement which in turn loses all complexity in the dancing which makes it very uninteresting to watch from a competitive perspective. Hell, even the understanding of connection is so bad they're lagging at the level international latin was two decades ago.

  • The fuss about this not being samba is ridiculous.

This is a commercial competition, hence the prize money. The more commercial the event, the further it will differentiate from the original samba. If you want raw samba (which is amazing) go to carnivals in Rio. This however is DanceSport and DanceSport championships are known to have differentiations within the styles. This might not be samba, but its some freaking good dancing. Appreciate it!

  • i don't really understand what all the fuss is about this being called a samba to be honest.

Dances evolve. You don't hear people moaning about how the dancesport jive isn't a jive because to be honest that looks nothing like the jive that was done 40 or 50 years ago. This dance has evolved from the samba and theres no sense moaning about the name because thats what it has been called for many years and it is what it will continue to be called all over the world.

  • wooow the beginning of eugene and maria is soo awesome!!! they have the best choreography!!

  • american samba, fucked samba

  • ... American Rhythm doesn't even have Samba. This was invented by the French.

  • so what? just stop calling that samba then! i am not saying that these guys can't do samba or anything else, they're just fine, but this dancesport is just all samba isn't about.

there's not even a single move in there that reminds me of samba. you're just making yourself fool, making profit of some guillible people (of course this shitty competitions raise a lot of money in america).

if you wanna know some good and sexy ballroom samba, look for samba de gafieira.

  • Nah. I don't really care ^_^. And since it has been over half a century we've been calling it Samba, we are way too lazy to change name :P

I know about Samba de Gafieira, just not interested in it.

And regarding making profits, ... yeah .. I don't know where you heard that from :P

  • I'm talking about this "samba" teachers all around the world. It's not that bad what they do... but it's not samba. Simple as that. There's too much technique and hardly any emotion.

  • If you don't (as almost americans do), we can close this topic with the same opening statement: "american samba, fucked samba". Apparently nothing's changed. All u proved is that you're completely narrow-mindend, attaching much more value to money ("And you can win $10K per competition") than to the dance itself. Really a pity...

  • Your concept of emotion in your social dancing is different from the approach that ballroom latin has, but if you can't see the emotion you're cluess as hell. A big hint is we put a lot of attention on dynamics and speed, especially in the amateur category, which is totally opposite to the social dancing world where dynamics, speed, connection and correct technique are hardly important.

  • sorry, my friend...

it is sad to know... but it really exists something called international ballroom samba... it is a crap... it even doesnt look like the samba we know... but it is called like that...

by the way... look at the good point: at least this video isnt using salsa or rumba as the music of it (usually they dont play samba at these competitions, even it being samba competition).

but, for sure: THEY SLICED OUR SAMBA AND PASTEURIZED IT.

  • @marciodoliveiria

I've talked to a brazilian musician and he has linked me several videos of real samba dancers. Ironicly in every single of those videos I found 4-6 figures that were the exact same of their steps and timing, and when I pointed them out to him he said he's surprised to see the similiarity.

If you can't analyse dancing and don't understand ballroom latin then keep your poorly knowledged mind out of these videos.

  • FANTAsTIC!!!I LIKE IIIIIIITT

  • Someone metion that ther are variations of samba.

    Here is my conclusion:

This is Samba for the peoplo who can't dance the real Samba.

I can't imagine those skinny girls dancing samba, they don't have what is needed, you know what I'm talking about.

  • no!!i didn't really get it!!are you saying that all these professional dancers CAN'T (?!) dance samba??are you serious?being skinny is not a problem as regards moving your body dear!plus,it is not that they can't dance real samba but the competition is for international ballroom samba!!

  • I think they could dance "the real samba" if you're talking about "gafieira", the brazilian BALLROOM samba, from Rio de Janeiro (I dance it and I am a skinny girl)

now "samba no pé" is something totally diferent.. and yeah..it problably looks better when you have some butt..

  • Brasilian samba is not the same as ballroom samba.

They are very different... They might not know how to dance the carnival samba, but brasilian girls also have a lot of difficulty dancing ballroom samba...

  • ballroom samba is called samba de gafieira (look for it on youtube)

what's showed in this video is pure bullshit, sorry

by the way, brazilian samba is redundant. every samba style is brazilian - apart from that, which can't be ever called samba

  • Technically, this is Dancesport, not just ballroom. And you can win $10K per competition. As much as I like the original samba from Brazil, YOU CAN SUCK IT!

  • what's the name of the song

  • the song is "Mas que nada" by sergio mendez & Black Eyed Peas

  • So many dancers.. and I didn't see a single one dancing samba... Try to watch a video of some brazilian dancers....

  • what r u talking about this is Samba i've been watching latin dance competitons for years this is Samba

  • yes.. this is samba..

but it's totally diferent from the brazilian samba.

like all the dances, samba has it's variations

  • yeah its ballroom samba

  • if someone wants to know,

the samba danced in brazil is called "gafieira"

  • Eugine is amazing. look how he waits and allows another couple to pass. A true professional..

  • lol...no thats not slavik... that guy isnt even 1/2 as good as Slavik... you would notice hiim across the other side of the floor it was...ahahah his hips move more then most couples do.

  • Do you know what is Samba? =)

  • take lessons with gena and masha, they're really really good but they're by far not the best, not on a worldwide level at least

  • Maria und Eugene are the best dancers of the world

  • io li ho vinto!!! in questa manifestazione rivedermi e una gioia immensa

  • amazing song and the dancers are so good. who did they win?
