just go to a gun show your bound to find a great shooting rifle $150 to $500 depending on condition and branch it was part of Army, Air force, Navy . I bought a Yugo m48 8mm for $250 and work great all matching MM they sell Russian captures $299 when the Russian captures only worth $100 to $150. and 8mm is perfect for taking a deer.
Man that sucks you had to buy one of those or even thinking about them. As far as shooters they do good but that's about it. Mitchelle lies and sells garbage and people pay WAYYYY TO MUCH FOR THEM!
Mitchell's Mausers sells hopped up garbage which has no historical worth once they are done bastardizing it. Don't encourage these idiots to destroy any more perfectly good pieces of history by purchasing from them.
From an actual Mauser owner.... Russian captures are perfectly safe to fire. Mausers in general are fairly accurate and reliable. 8mm loaded to European standards is comperable to the 30.06. As for Mitchells Mausers here is the skinny. They are clean and look good. There is zero collectability. Mitchell takes a Russian capture, grinds down the serials on all parts (except for the receiver) and them stamps new matching numbers and/or Waffampts numbers to make the rifle "completely match."

i cant say anything about mitchells but the mauser kar98k is a great preforming rifle i have never had a feeding problem i have used one in as a sniper rifle before and they are extremley accurate and as for hunting dear the the 7.92X57 (8mm Mauser) is great.
Great rifle. One of the best in the world. Mitchells are pretty much all cleaned up for you. All the work is already done. Its pretty much a parts gun that has been made like new. Dont expect the rifle to have any collector value down the road. But hey, its your rifle and pretty much a great looking shooter. Dont pay too much. I wouldnt pay more than 400. The 8mm Mauser cartridge is great for hunting. I have used it all around the world for hunting. Used it in Africa for Kudu, Eland, Impala, etc
are you an idiot? of course 8mm is good for hunting deer. Also, stop stuttering when you talk..it makes you sound like an idiot. Also one more thing, why don't you let your daddy buy the guns, not you. You're too young and it's called a straw purchase if you owned you. Faggot.

Michells k98s are RUSSIAN CAPTURES polished to look new here in the states and they shoot just as well as standard russian captures at half the price. At least RC's retain some originality!
@masanf "Real k98 mauser ...Never be worth more than you paid for them" Are you for real?? Or just stupid? I witnessed a guy walk into my local gun shop with a $800 mitchells k98 thinking it was original. He wanted to trade it for a garand! the owner laughed him out of the store!!! he said it was worth $150 bucks as a shooter after all the tampering done by MM's. While I bought a real vet bring back commom k98 at a show for $375 and it sold at auction for $925! So much for your BS!!!
If you are going to buy a Mauser for collection reasons, you should do so because you are a history buff, not as some sort of an investment. I have visited virtually every site on the web there is that sells Mauser's and i can tell you one thing I know for certain: unless you buy one that is pristine and rare, thus costing you a fortune, Mausers are too common and their condition is too degraded for them to ever be worth more than you pay for them. They are rarely "collectibles:.
i will echo what others have said about Mitchells. If you are looking for historical accuracy, skip it. If you are looking for a great shooter, buy one. The 8mm Mauser is a great caliber for medium distances out to several hundred yards, at least. I own a Mitchell's and I can tell you that it is an absolutely gorgeous rifle and it is the most accurate rifle I have ever fired using only iron sights.
if your looking for one to shoot mitchells is probably the way to go. however they have so little authentic parts there is no way to claim its a piece of history. they shoot fine. in the future say 30 years down the line they will not retain their value(its the new car drive it off of the lot theory anytime you shoot a new rifle its value has to drop a certain amount) and since there is no historical value i do not see any collectors jumping to own these down the road.
I own a Mitchells Mausers Yugo M48. I have also had an all matching serial numbers Yugo M24/47 that I got from a big 5 along time ago. I sold the M24/47 the minute my Collectors Grade Yugo M48 by Mitchells came in. I am highly pleased with the rifle. Its super clean and shoots extremely well! The bluing is superb. The Buttplate is a very nice looking steel and the bolt is also polished and works perfectly. The 7.92x57mm aka 8mm Mauser round would a drop deer just like a 30-06 no problem.
hey im in the same positon ur in. Everybody says that mitchells are more for shooting not collecting, well thats true but i want a shooter. In its time it was the most accurate rifle ever made and is still far better than any modern hunting rifles. When u compare it to the moisin nagant, or any other bolt action, the k98's boltaction handles much smoother, and will last a lot longer. Nagants are a pain to load. Overall k98's are of better quality, highly accurate, and are a piece of history
If you want a shooter, get a Mitchell's, period. I own one and I can tell you that they are extremely accurate Also, the Mitchell's rifles look like works of art. They are absolutely beautiful. If you care about the appearance of your rifle, and much more importantly, how it shoots, you can't go wrong with a Mitchell's. You should disregard all of the anti-Mitchell's zealots who bash Mitchell's. Most of them haven't fired a single round from a Mitchell's rifle.
I wouldn't buy anything from Mitchell's mausers. Go to a gunshow and find yourself a russian capture K98 and get to working on cleaning the cosmoline out, or get yourself a brand new yugo M48 packaged in cosmo. The M48 is basically a K98 copy with a few minor differences here and there. Also, the 8mm is more than enough for anything in North America, and it probably has taken everything in North America at least once.
A lot of people bitch about Mitchell's Mausers, but to be honest they are absolutely great quality. You will not find a good condition matching mauser for less than $1500+. People who bitch are trying to justify their Russian capture crap rifles, or just want to talk crap. The Mitchell's shoot great, and they do a fabulous job on refinishing. If you want a great shooting historical rifle they are a steal. How is a refinished mauser any worse than the AKs people buy with US receivers?
go to gunshows and look around for deals. I picked up a russian capture k98k for $250 out the door two weeks ago. You can get yugo captures even cheaper. Bolt mismatch guns can be found for under $500. stay far far away from mitchell's. Its never a good idea to buy a gun sight unseen anyway. Look for a russian capture with a nice bore and you will have an accurate, rugged rifle that you can shoot to your heart's content.
do yourself a favor and stay away from mitchell mausers.there a joke, overpriced and sell junk.buy from sarco,j/g sales, aig and so on.anybody that pays 300-400 bucks for a yugo m48 mauser is not right in the head.
@highcountry74 Apparently you are misinformed? Mitchell's sells both Yugo M48s AND German kar98s. I'll take a clean good looking rifle any day over those thrown together nasty Russian capture rifles.
Yet another douchebag who I can guarantee has never shot a Mitchell's or even held one in his hand. Hey genius, we already fucking know they are not historical collector's items. They are for shooting and they do that very, very well indeed. And they are in perfect condition. I don't know how many rifles you own, but $400 for a brand new rifle in perfect condition is not even remotely expensive.
@masanf unlike your dumbass who is apparently a complete dumbass when it comes to mausers.i guarauntee you ive got more mausers hanging on my wall and in my safes than your dumb little ass will ever own.get a clue little boy your a fucking idiot.its not my fault you were dumb enough to buy one from those crooks.do your homework mitchells has had a shit load of complaints for shitty proucts and lying.fucktard little fag.i bet you own 1 and that makes you a expert lol
Hahahahaha, you are fucking hilarious. Mitchell's has had complaints about their authenticity, not their quality, asshole. You can guarantee you have more Mauser's than me? Well, from your comments you sound like you are about 12 years old, so you probably don't any.
if u want a good shootin rifle get the mitchells mauser but if u want a k98 with history go to a gun show and ya the 8mm is a rifle to kill a deer i havent shot mine but i heard they are very accurate rifles.
besides, i have a captured snipers rifle from the Wehrmart. yes. the scope is original. and i have no idea how my great grandpa got away with bringing this death dealer home.
Well, the government wasn't nearly as anit-gun as it is now. Vets brought home duffle bags full of war trophies which is why there are so many non-import marked Lugers, P-38s, and Mausers on the market (they do command premium prices though). I ven heard the story of a guy whose father mailed home a fully functioning MG-34. Just a different time.
my great grandfather told me a mauser round will knock both lungs out of a 19 year old kid . it works on people, it works on deer for sure. people use it with success on even bigger game like bear, elk, ect. Its a highly accurate round with ballistics similar to the big game round 30-06. but if i were you, i would use softpoint boat tail rounds that are both accurate and expand for quick and humane kills. Full metal jacket are good for target practice.
Wow you said everything I was going to say. You sir know your stuff.
As for jamisonwebster, check out my Video response. A guy went on my Mitchell's Mauser vid and commented on what Mitchell's Mauser actually sells. And like Mark3smle said, the 7.92 is excellent for hunting. I'd recommend Remington Core Lokt, they make it for 8mm Mauser and it works amazing. I've heard of guys taking Mausers to Africa to hunt some serious game (even elephants), deer are no match for it.
Mitchell's Mausers are a great value for the money if you can get one for around $400 (as in their special offer). The truth is no Mitchell Mauser is "collector grade" - they have all been re-finished and import marked. If you are going to spend near a $1000 hold out for an origianal matching numbers vet bring back. Mitchell makes a good mauser but they have no collector value. Make great shooters though.
Its an Overall great gun i think. They are Very accurate. They also are good for Hunting The 8mm is a Strong, Heavy Slow moving Bullet So it Definitly has The Stopping Power to Drop a deer dead in its Tracks. Cause i Have killed Many Deer with a .223 witch is a very small and fast bullet. And i would suggest You buy one but if u Do get the Collectors Grade cause it is just alot cleaner than the service grade and just looks better.
Ok first of all its a great gun for target practice, hunting deers and plinking. The accuracy is superb!! My friend bought his at mitchells too he bought his a couple years ago the scoped version i dont know if they still offer them but he shot a metal plate 800yards away and every shot was a hit! I dont think you can ask for more accuracy. And yes the action is extremly reliable it always works. If not then the cartridge had a bad primer! Go for one!
They are a blast to shoot i have 3. great for target practice just bring lots of bullets youl need them. They are good for deer. it was my first deer gun. i wouldn't suggest it first. for we have better techno now. but it would be fine. i would just ask that you didn't take any long shots on a deer with it.
don't use fmj ammo. get soft or hollow point. very accurate. strong reliable gun. and don't put it away wet. they rust really good. good luck and be safe.
The reviews i have heard on those mausers has never been a bad one. so yes it is "good". It is a good piece of history. and the design was top notch bolt action of it's day. very accurate and very reliable.
and before i get flamed, yes i KNOW 900 is a ton of cash for a K98 ......but would you rather get a beat up Yugo model with dings and nicks? Or would you rather invest in something a bit more... you do get what you pay for in this instance. The 400 dollar ones they advertise mostly are NOT the collectible variety, but if you want a great shooter, they are good for that. If you wish to spend more, then yes you can get matching serials, and the SS Skull etc even if u are lucky. Not cheap tho
one note, i have heard many bad things too bout mitchells, im no fanboi, i collect German Leather Greatcoats etc too from a friend in Germany, import them to the states. So im very picky. Even the bolt matches btw i couldnt fit that. Ive seen the 400 dollar ones, not the same thing, i paid nearly 900 for mine, but has all markings matching, and its not like the standard at all. Most folks just ge the regualr one. BTW, yes it IS a great deer gun btw, accurate, and if you add a scope heh.
I personally own a Premium Grade SS series Mitchells K98. I dealt with Michael and he was very helpful. The rifle is all matching serial numbers on ALL parts as i paid a bit more for this one than the standard michells gun, has all 3rd Riech markings, SS Death head (rare), and its in pristine condition, and the one i have IS collectible. If you pay the extra, for the top end ones from them, you will get a true German Mauser, matchin serials, but you must insist.
dont by MM the fordge parts, it is inno way sape or form a peice of history, they fuck up such a beautiful rifle to the point to where its only good side is that it looks pretty and its a good shooter. like u said, if u wantdt go after deer with one, a MM would e perfict, but as a collector. nothing..
Sigh...the gun culture is so fulll of brand snobbery. Mitchell's Mausers are fine weapons and are great if you intend to "USE" your rifle. They are refinished and look factory new. They shoot wonderfully and will perform well in a shooting role. They are not "authentic" Mausers so the collector value is limited, but being that you are young and probably limited income, I doubt seriously you are looking to spend the $1000 on a prime wall hanger. Buy the MM and enjoy the shooting.
Nothing wrong with the M48 Mitchell Mauser I purchased at a local retailer; though I got a little carried away with the mineral spirits while removing the caked-on cosmoline from the metal. Needless to say an extra $100 to re-blue said metal - the gun looks, and shoots like new...No misleading/fakes - just a solid Yugo built Mauser for a reasonable price.
Sweet man, I have an M48A... it looks like it was built yesterday and shoots like a dream. What more could I want out of it? I also have an Oberndorff 98k with all the proofs etc.. I have seen both versions from Mitchell's, and would buy one in a heartbeat. People forget that Mitchell's might charge an extra $150 over that gun show piece of crap... but, they totally refinish it, giving you an accurate like new 98k. Gun values are totally based on what you feel it is worth. -continued
The Blue Book is so far off based. Value is up to each person and how much they would be willing to spend for something. My Maadi AKM to me is priceless.... sale- wise I could probably get aroun $850-1000 for it... but I would never sell it. To each his own. I'm so tired of the naysayers and brand puppets. If anyone had a grade-A 98k Mauser they would be afraid to shoot it....big deal. I'd rather have fun with a beautiful Mitchell's.
I'm sorry that I spoke above your head... my bad, I will make it a point to not talk like I have experience. I guess in the future I should limit myself to one sentence comments that really say or prove nothing... kind of like yours?
Mitchell's Mausers are VERY misleading. Some of their rifles were made in WW2, but were sanded down, polished, and re stamped to match.
Then there are the Serbian/Yugo ones that are based off of the Mauser but aren't German made.
Also look for when they say 'WW2 era' this means after WW2.
In short, Mitchell's do see German K98k's, but they aren't historic. I got my K98k at a gun show for $250, it's a Russian capture. Shoots like a dream.
thank god people agree with me.. why cant they go to a gun show and buy a real one for 250-400!? and not 500 .. i got mine for $308 and its a non russian cap has all the waffenamps still and shoots perfect TO EVERYONE OUT THERE BUY FROM GUN SHOWS AND NOT MM lol
I haven't been to a gun show in a few years, but the affordable authentic German Mausers assembled during WW2 were all in rough shape. Had I seen one without alot of wear, and that was not overly priced I would've bought one...My M48 isn't anything special, but it's still a Mauser, and it's a sweet rifle.
I bought one, a 1942 manufacture, liked it so much I ordered another and got a 1943. It is now my wife's favorite and we have to take it every time we go to the range. Very accurate, reliable, as the krauts took most of Europe with it.
They are not Yugos... and yes I own both. They specify the country of origin when you order. Unless the person is comepletly incompetant and doe not read where it says this they offer BOTH, German and Yugo Mausers. You are misleading people as bad if not worse than you are claiming Mitchell's does.
Get a k98 but not a mitchells mauser because they are just canabalized Yugo mausers. They all have that blond looking stock where it wasnt til 1944 that k98s started ending up in combat with that blond colored stock thats one of the ways you can tell a late from an early war k98.
8mm is very good for deer! i killed a deer in november with my 8mm mauser. they are very reliable!!!!!!!!! also they have very smooth actions and very accurate!
These are not authentic german made mausers 98k's. They are Yugoslavian made and are not worth the money in my opinion. They were not manufactured in Germany. They are good rifles no doubt but pretty over priced. If you have money to burn go for it.
mitchells mauser does not advertise this but they sell special 98ks that were actually used in concentration camps. if the rifle says made in germany it was definetly used in ww2 because durring the last couple years of ww2 the germans had a rifle shortage, they grabed all the 98ks they could so they snaped 'em up straight out of the factories. so if it says made in germany you can bet its gonna be a great buy and its seen action.
the mauser 98k an absolutly GREAT rifle. if you buy one you can count on it lasting for the rest of your life and when you die and pass it on to the next of kin, the rest of their lifes to. the 8mm round is more than enough for dear hunting. i own one that was used in ww2 and i have not had to change a single part out on it, all origional 1942 and it still works as if it were brand spanking new. i give the mauser 98k a 10/10. make sure you do your homework first the. go for one made in germany
its strong enough to kill deer, i nocked down deer with it at three hundred yards, but if your just a kid iy might kick to hard, its alot more powerful than a 3006
the only thing fake on the MM, are the serial numbers, at least they're not fugly russian crate babies. well they were, but at least they were cleaned up. they're pricey but very nice to look at
if you want a gun to shoot and be very accurate with i would suggest scrapping the mauser idea. you can buy a remington 700 for around $400-$450. 700's are really accurate rifles outta the box and there is a ton of aftermarket products for it so you can build up your rifle over a period of time and make it a really nice accurate gun that will shoot better than mauser will i dont care what Popsicle says. There is just a handful of people that can shoot 1" groups at 100 yds with any gun.
great mausers on that web but if u want one for plinking go to your local gun shop dealer and buy one from the crate because those on the web are more for collecting ,and these rifles will go through hell and back with u, i have a few i have fired 1000rds in each at least and i have also put these rifles through hell ,they work just like new and the 8mm (7.92x57) will blow away half that deer away and u can get a 1" grouping at over 900yards with this rifle hope your strong enough to handle them
ok... You have two options. You can get a Russian Captured k98. This k98 where captured by the russians during WW2. The russians took them apart, blued the metal, applied shellac to the stocks and re-assembled them. The serial numbers on this rifles do not match but they did electropenciled new serial numbers on them. They are priced in the $250-300 range.
Or you could buy one of the pimped up Mitchel Mausers fakes which are terribly overpriced.
Mitchells Mausers is a company that takes Yugo mausers or Russian captured k98 mausers and makes them pretty. They sand the stocks and stamp the serial numbers to match. In other words this rifles are fakes, put together by this company and advertised as the real thing. They are overpriced.
So, are you looking for a shooter or a real rifle with some hystory behind it?
just go to a gun show your bound to find a great shooting rifle $150 to $500 depending on condition and branch it was part of Army, Air force, Navy . I bought a Yugo m48 8mm for $250 and work great all matching MM they sell Russian captures $299 when the Russian captures only worth $100 to $150. and 8mm is perfect for taking a deer.

@BFMV698
Most of them haven't fired a single round from a Mitchell's rifle.

ya you can hunt with it it is a good gun i have one that i hunt with so go for it
bigusmcWW2 1 year ago

How is a refinished mauser any worse than the AKs people buy with US receivers?

if you but it at least blue the bolt so it will look original

go to gunshows and look around for deals.
MrMosinMan89 2 years ago
do yourself a favor and stay away from mitchell mausers.there a joke, overpriced and sell junk.buy from sarco,j/g sales, aig and so on.anybody that pays 300-400 bucks for a yugo m48 mauser is not right in the head.
highcountry74 2 years ago
@highcountry74 Apparently you are misinformed? Mitchell's sells both Yugo M48s AND German kar98s. I'll take a clean good looking rifle any day over those thrown together nasty Russian capture rifles.
HatrXx78 1 year ago
@highcountry74
Yet another douchebag who I can guarantee has never shot a Mitchell's or even held one in his hand. Hey genius, we already fucking know they are not historical collector's items. They are for shooting and they do that very, very well indeed. And they are in perfect condition. I don't know how many rifles you own, but $400 for a brand new rifle in perfect condition is not even remotely expensive.
masanf 1 year ago
@masanf unlike your dumbass who is apparently a complete dumbass when it comes to mausers.i guarauntee you ive got more mausers hanging on my wall and in my safes than your dumb little ass will ever own.get a clue little boy your a fucking idiot.its not my fault you were dumb enough to buy one from those crooks.do your homework mitchells has had a shit load of complaints for shitty proucts and lying.fucktard little fag.i bet you own 1 and that makes you a expert lol
highcountry74 1 year ago
@highcountry74
Hahahahaha, you are fucking hilarious. Mitchell's has had complaints about their authenticity, not their quality, asshole. You can guarantee you have more Mauser's than me? Well, from your comments you sound like you are about 12 years old, so you probably don't any.
masanf 10 months ago
if u want a good shootin rifle get the mitchells mauser but if u want a k98 with history go to a gun show and ya the 8mm is a rifle to kill a deer i havent shot mine but i heard they are very accurate rifles.
ColdBeer62 2 years ago
you can kill a deer with that gun i killed a deer with a .223
bigusmcWW2 2 years ago
besides, i have a captured snipers rifle from the Wehrmart. yes. the scope is original. and i have no idea how my great grandpa got away with bringing this death dealer home.
mark3smle 2 years ago
Well, the government wasn't nearly as anit-gun as it is now. Vets brought home duffle bags full of war trophies which is why there are so many non-import marked Lugers, P-38s, and Mausers on the market (they do command premium prices though). I ven heard the story of a guy whose father mailed home a fully functioning MG-34. Just a different time.
MrTEX1971 2 years ago
my great grandfather told me a mauser round will knock both lungs out of a 19 year old kid . it works on people, it works on deer for sure. people use it with success on even bigger game like bear, elk, ect. Its a highly accurate round with ballistics similar to the big game round 30-06. but if i were you, i would use softpoint boat tail rounds that are both accurate and expand for quick and humane kills. Full metal jacket are good for target practice.
mark3smle 2 years ago
Wow you said everything I was going to say. You sir know your stuff.
As for jamisonwebster, check out my Video response. A guy went on my Mitchell's Mauser vid and commented on what Mitchell's Mauser actually sells. And like Mark3smle said, the 7.92 is excellent for hunting. I'd recommend Remington Core Lokt, they make it for 8mm Mauser and it works amazing. I've heard of guys taking Mausers to Africa to hunt some serious game (even elephants), deer are no match for it.
Mr2ndAmendment 2 years ago
Mitchell's Mausers are a great value for the money if you can get one for around $400 (as in their special offer). The truth is no Mitchell Mauser is "collector grade" - they have all been re-finished and import marked. If you are going to spend near a $1000 hold out for an origianal matching numbers vet bring back. Mitchell makes a good mauser but they have no collector value. Make great shooters though.
MrTEX1971 2 years ago
Its an Overall great gun i think. They are Very accurate. They also are good for Hunting The 8mm is a Strong, Heavy Slow moving Bullet So it Definitly has The Stopping Power to Drop a deer dead in its Tracks. Cause i Have killed Many Deer with a .223 witch is a very small and fast bullet. And i would suggest You buy one but if u Do get the Collectors Grade cause it is just alot cleaner than the service grade and just looks better.
Hope This Helps Mike

Ok first of all its a great gun for target practice, hunting deers and plinking. The accuracy is superb!! My friend bought his at mitchells too he bought his a couple years ago the scoped version i dont know if they still offer them but he shot a metal plate 800yards away and every shot was a hit! I dont think you can ask for more accuracy. And yes the action is extremly reliable it always works. If not then the cartridge had a bad primer! Go for one!
Greetings
Mike
coolmike1989 2 years ago
They are a blast to shoot i have 3. great for target practice just bring lots of bullets youl need them. They are good for deer. it was my first deer gun. i wouldn't suggest it first. for we have better techno now. but it would be fine. i would just ask that you didn't take any long shots on a deer with it.
don't use fmj ammo. get soft or hollow point. very accurate. strong reliable gun. and don't put it away wet. they rust really good. good luck and be safe.
wapitiassassin 2 years ago
The reviews i have heard on those mausers has never been a bad one. so yes it is "good". It is a good piece of history. and the design was top notch bolt action of it's day. very accurate and very reliable.

SaintLiam78 2 years ago
and before i get flamed, yes i KNOW 900 is a ton of cash for a K98 ......but would you rather get a beat up Yugo model with dings and nicks? Or would you rather invest in something a bit more... you do get what you pay for in this instance. The 400 dollar ones they advertise mostly are NOT the collectible variety, but if you want a great shooter, they are good for that. If you wish to spend more, then yes you can get matching serials, and the SS Skull etc even if u are lucky. Not cheap tho
lanthantos 2 years ago
one note, i have heard many bad things too bout mitchells, im no fanboi, i collect German Leather Greatcoats etc too from a friend in Germany, import them to the states. So im very picky. Even the bolt matches btw i couldnt fit that. Ive seen the 400 dollar ones, not the same thing, i paid nearly 900 for mine, but has all markings matching, and its not like the standard at all. Most folks just ge the regualr one. BTW, yes it IS a great deer gun btw, accurate, and if you add a scope heh.
lanthantos 2 years ago
I personally own a Premium Grade SS series Mitchells K98. I dealt with Michael and he was very helpful. The rifle is all matching serial numbers on ALL parts as i paid a bit more for this one than the standard michells gun, has all 3rd Riech markings, SS Death head (rare), and its in pristine condition, and the one i have IS collectible. If you pay the extra, for the top end ones from them, you will get a true German Mauser, matchin serials, but you must insist.
lanthantos 2 years ago
dont by MM the fordge parts, it is inno way sape or form a peice of history, they fuck up such a beautiful rifle to the point to where its only good side is that it looks pretty and its a good shooter. like u said, if u wantdt go after deer with one, a MM would e perfict, but as a collector. nothing..
oktoberfest124 2 years ago
Sigh...the gun culture is so fulll of brand snobbery. Mitchell's Mausers are fine weapons and are great if you intend to "USE" your rifle. They are refinished and look factory new. They shoot wonderfully and will perform well in a shooting role. They are not "authentic" Mausers so the collector value is limited, but being that you are young and probably limited income, I doubt seriously you are looking to spend the $1000 on a prime wall hanger. Buy the MM and enjoy the shooting.
HatrXx78 2 years ago
Nothing wrong with the M48 Mitchell Mauser I purchased at a local retailer; though I got a little carried away with the mineral spirits while removing the caked-on cosmoline from the metal. Needless to say an extra $100 to re-blue said metal - the gun looks, and shoots like new...No misleading/fakes - just a solid Yugo built Mauser for a reasonable price.
FMichael1970 2 years ago
Sweet man, I have an M48A... it looks like it was built yesterday and shoots like a dream. What more could I want out of it? I also have an Oberndorff 98k with all the proofs etc.. I have seen both versions from Mitchell's, and would buy one in a heartbeat. People forget that Mitchell's might charge an extra $150 over that gun show piece of crap... but, they totally refinish it, giving you an accurate like new 98k. Gun values are totally based on what you feel it is worth. -continued
HatrXx78 2 years ago
The Blue Book is so far off based. Value is up to each person and how much they would be willing to spend for something. My Maadi AKM to me is priceless.... sale- wise I could probably get aroun $850-1000 for it... but I would never sell it. To each his own. I'm so tired of the naysayers and brand puppets. If anyone had a grade-A 98k Mauser they would be afraid to shoot it....big deal. I'd rather have fun with a beautiful Mitchell's.
HatrXx78 2 years ago
man Hatrxx78, you think your a gun expert, your not!

Oh wait... thanks for reminding me. I forgot that your opinion mattered.
Go play in the street moron... the kid was asking for honest opinions on whether he should buy a rifle to shoot or not. I gave him an honest answer.
HatrXx78 2 years ago
I'm sorry that I spoke above your head... my bad, I will make it a point to not talk like I have experience. I guess in the future I should limit myself to one sentence comments that really say or prove nothing... kind of like yours?
HatrXx78 2 years ago
Don't buy a Mitchell's mauser. Go to a gun show or a pawn shop and buy a mauser there. M M's are overstamped, over priced clones.
30BulletHoles 2 years ago
Mitchell's Mausers are VERY misleading. Some of their rifles were made in WW2, but were sanded down, polished, and re stamped to match.
Then there are the Serbian/Yugo ones that are based off of the Mauser but aren't German made.
Also look for when they say 'WW2 era' this means after WW2.
In short, Mitchell's do see German K98k's, but they aren't historic. I got my K98k at a gun show for $250, it's a Russian capture. Shoots like a dream.
austin78613 2 years ago
thank god people agree with me.. why cant they go to a gun show and buy a real one for 250-400!? and not 500 .. i got mine for $308 and its a non russian cap has all the waffenamps still and shoots perfect TO EVERYONE OUT THERE BUY FROM GUN SHOWS AND NOT MM lol
myYTwashackedbyanoob 2 years ago
I haven't been to a gun show in a few years, but the affordable authentic German Mausers assembled during WW2 were all in rough shape. Had I seen one without alot of wear, and that was not overly priced I would've bought one...My M48 isn't anything special, but it's still a Mauser, and it's a sweet rifle.
FMichael1970 2 years ago
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Don't buy a Mitchell's unless you understand what you're getting.
cash3c 2 years ago
I bought one, a 1942 manufacture, liked it so much I ordered another and got a 1943. It is now my wife's favorite and we have to take it every time we go to the range. Very accurate, reliable, as the krauts took most of Europe with it.

There not authentic German made Mausers!! There Yugos, if you want to take time, look for one off of Gun Broker! Good Luck!
Stay away from M.M.!
schultz234 2 years ago
They are not Yugos... and yes I own both. They specify the country of origin when you order. Unless the person is comepletly incompetant and doe not read where it says this they offer BOTH, German and Yugo Mausers. You are misleading people as bad if not worse than you are claiming Mitchell's does.
HatrXx78 2 years ago
Get a k98 but not a mitchells mauser because they are just canabalized Yugo mausers. They all have that blond looking stock where it wasnt til 1944 that k98s started ending up in combat with that blond colored stock thats one of the ways you can tell a late from an early war k98.

8mm is very good for deer! i killed a deer in november with my 8mm mauser. they are very reliable!!!!!!!!! also they have very smooth actions and very accurate!
sighter04 2 years ago
These are not authentic german made mausers 98k's. They are Yugoslavian made and are not worth the money in my opinion. They were not manufactured in Germany. They are good rifles no doubt but pretty over priced. If you have money to burn go for it.
bhaase1 2 years ago
mitchells mauser does not advertise this but they sell special 98ks that were actually used in concentration camps. if the rifle says made in germany it was definetly used in ww2 because durring the last couple years of ww2 the germans had a rifle shortage, they grabed all the 98ks they could so they snaped 'em up straight out of the factories. so if it says made in germany you can bet its gonna be a great buy and its seen action.
alexfoeshizzel12345 2 years ago
the mauser 98k an absolutly GREAT rifle. if you buy one you can count on it lasting for the rest of your life and when you die and pass it on to the next of kin, the rest of their lifes to. the 8mm round is more than enough for dear hunting. i own one that was used in ww2 and i have not had to change a single part out on it, all origional 1942 and it still works as if it were brand spanking new. i give the mauser 98k a 10/10. make sure you do your homework first the. go for one made in germany
alexfoeshizzel12345 2 years ago
its strong enough to kill deer, i nocked down deer with it at three hundred yards, but if your just a kid iy might kick to hard, its alot more powerful than a 3006

we have a reminton 700 cambered in 243winchester and the bolt IS NOT very smooth, and im looking for a smooth and quick bolt gun
jamisonwebster14 3 years ago
if you want a gun to shoot and be very accurate with i would suggest scrapping the mauser idea. you can buy a remington 700 for around $400-$450. 700's are really accurate rifles outta the box and there is a ton of aftermarket products for it so you can build up your rifle over a period of time and make it a really nice accurate gun that will shoot better than mauser will i dont care what Popsicle says. There is just a handful of people that can shoot 1" groups at 100 yds with any gun.
1animalkiler 3 years ago
great mausers on that web but if u want one for plinking go to your local gun shop dealer and buy one from the crate because those on the web are more for collecting ,and these rifles will go through hell and back with u, i have a few i have fired 1000rds in each at least and i have also put these rifles through hell ,they work just like new and the 8mm (7.92x57) will blow away half that deer away and u can get a 1" grouping at over 900yards with this rifle hope your strong enough to handle them
Popsicle22754 3 years ago
im looking for a shooter
jamisonwebster14 3 years ago
Or you could buy one of the pimped up Mitchel Mausers fakes which are terribly overpriced.
javiEmma 3 years ago
Mitchells Mausers is a company that takes Yugo mausers or Russian captured k98 mausers and makes them pretty. They sand the stocks and stamp the serial numbers to match. In other words this rifles are fakes, put together by this company and advertised as the real thing. They are overpriced.
So, are you looking for a shooter or a real rifle with some hystory behind it?
javiEmma 3 years ago
i don't know much about it but from what ive herd they were never used in ww2 they are post war Yugo m-48s there not German!
