@jonas4236 no!!! A different video just like this one.... I think it was filmed from the other side of the house;) probably not;) I don't know. Maybe if I just step inside the map then maybe.... Then maybe....... I can come out!!!! You know? How about you?;)
That's some scary shit right there... It's fasinating seeing the lighting or whatever flash a couple of seconds before everything is uprooted. I just hope everyone was safe that day :)
@felon124 Some security cameras are very compact and built tough, because theives try to break them with things. Butnit wouldn't survive a direct hit from a tornado.
DAMN! Tornadoes are awesome to look at, until they are right on top of you! I guess it's better to live on Earth, than to live in a gas giant planets' atmosphere! I couldn't imagine that! Neptune has 1500+ mph winds! If you were floating still in Neptune's clouds, your whole body would break the sound barrier if you were in those winds! Those storms make the storms on Earth look like calm weather!
Well in the USA they should learn to build houses like Europe , The Netherlands Belgium Germany etc . Those are always build from stone , and can handle F2 and F3 easily . Ok , they maybe expensive but much beter than home's bluided from wood .
'ThatWhiteB0y' Us brits dont think of americans like that! Only the pricks do... And wh ydo americans think of the English as people who wear top hats and our idea of casual clothes is blasers and ties and like to drink tea in the rain? We are cooler then that (;
heh cheap build houses. if you want your house to survive build it out of bricks not just wooden plates. no hell are whining when they find their house in pieces
Even in those cases, was the tornado at F5/EF5 strength when it hit those structure. St to brick housing. That would explain a brick building collapsing but not being completely carried away.
One tornado of similar strength to this one lifted a well anchored brick house off its foundation. The entire house was thrown and disintegrated in mid air.
bricks ?? an F5 tornado (this one is the Parkersburg, IA F5) can obliterate municipal brick buildings and leave nothing behind but a cement slab. F5's will even strip the tile off the cement. There is literally no cost effective structure besides an imbedded reinforced concrete shelter, achored to the earth with driven piles that will stay intact in an F5 tornado. You have to see the damage firsthand to really understand how damaging an F5.. or even an F4 truly is.
@ProfessorIgor Yes, people really greatly underestimate the damage that tornadoes cause, especially higher end tornadoes, until they see it firsthand. Most people cannot comprehend buildings reduced to a concrete slab.
A message to everyone here: Pray you never get to see that kind of damage with your own eyes.
Besides when was the last time Britain got hit by an EF5? Also it would be interesting to see what would happen to your town if it got hit by an EF5. Bet your house wouldn't be standing eh douchefag
I agree with Professorlgor an EF5 destroys everything. Besides this is more of an American subject. I don't think cooljulz7 exactly understands what just happened.
What a halfwit you are. Outside of a concrete bunker, nothing can withstand the 250-300 mpg winds of an F5. So STFU already, you ignorant slob, and go back to playing Guitar Hero.
wood, brick, cinderblock... unless it's a reinforced and ANCHORED with piles driven into the ground structure, it's getting wasted be an EF-5 tornado hotshot.. Take a good long look at Greensburg, KS... almost ALL of the buildings in the downtown section were brick. They ALL got COMPLETELY demolished along with the BRICK High School. Learn just a little bit about tornadoes before you spout off in here. You're making yourself look more stupid than you actually are. Or maybe you are THAT stupid.
Just another piece of Euro-Trash commenting on something Euro-Trash don't care to understand. A EF-5 Tornado, like this one, causes damage comparable to atomic bomb. Go find a soccer game and be a hooligan some where else! By the way soccer and cricket sucks! The USA bailed the UK's ass out twice in the 20th century, and we beat you in two wars in 50 years on our home soil.

construction quality would have been of little consequense in a tornado of this magnitude. Ef-5's simply obliviate any wooden frame structure. (Most brick structures as well)
You are so right, and I'll add one more comment I feel people get a false since of security with tornadoes because of these so called structures that can withstand large wedge tornadoes. thats a dangerous attitude the fastest recorded tornado was 318mph and you better believe there will be a much stronger tornado than that! so no matter what stucture your in or it's rating as far as wind. when a large tornado comes your way ya better find a basement and increase your odds of survival!!!!
We here in the Philadelphia area are very aware of the devastating flooding you folks in Iowa are experiencing. It is all over our news. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all of you in Iowa who have lost everything - and I'm sure I speak for people all over the country who feel the same. We count ourselves lucky that we have been spared this devastation here in the east - but we always remember that there is no guarantee of safety anywhere.
I live in Cedar Rapids, Ia which does get bad weather such as this. We are about an hour away from Parkersburg. This stuff is scary and life changing! Anybody wants to say that you weren't impressed or scared by bad weather is heartless. Oh and for anybody that cares, our state is now severaly flooding. The river is so high that are having emergancy evcautions for parts of Cedar Rapids and most towns around this area. Just an FYI, Cedar Rapids is down river from Cedar Falls.
Wow. I'm a storm freak and this video is REALLY something to see. I pray for the people who might have been inside the home during this tornado - perhaps in the basement - that they survived and were uninjured. Heartbreaking to see their house & possessions being destroyed right in front of our eyes. Does anyone out there have ANY information on the owners of the house??
Here in Eastern Pennsylvania, we never get storms even close to that.
KCRG-TV News has this video up on their website, and in the story it says "The man who lives here didn't want to say anything about the video, but once again, he is doing fine and preparing to move on." It looks like he's doing okay, thank goodness, but what a shame for him to have lost his home this way.
hey guys could anyone tell me if this on the link is really a tornado forming or just some really odd storm system... we had a tornado a year ago here where I live in mexico which is on border with Texas.. we never had any history of tornadoes here but last year a huge f-4 twister hit us leaving death and destruction ... this year we have had some really bad weather... anyways check it out and tell me what you think.. thanks :)
The video cut off long before the center of the tornado passed over. Even so, it looks to me like those last gusts that are clearly visible have to be over 200mph. I think this new EF scale greatly underestimates tornado windspeeds.
@CyrusNixes the people who created the new scale really have discovered that there is not much difference between a 200 mph gust and a 300 mph in the way of house damage so lowered the windspeed
The worst of the tornado didn't hit this part of town. Only a relatively narrow portion of the tornado's path produced EF5 damage. The bank from which this footage was taken took EF2/EF3 damage so winds would have peaked at about 135 mph.
It seems that little over hang most "A" frame houses have is like a catch for wind. A domed shape house could make it through that because of aerodynamics.
nah,. hollywood have tried,. but they fail,. TWISTER was a good movie,. but they could not recreate what is done here,. look at the inflow winds,. Amazing,.
and it shows that its not really the Tornado it self that brigs down the house,. its the debris and strong inflow winds,. once it has made a hole in the structure its a piece of cake to take the rest,.

@xensxtreme
F2 damage is the removal of the roof and would be surprised if many of you buildings had stone roofs.
An F3 can collapse brick walls as well as wood frame ones. I don't think stone would fare much better.
dragonridley 1 year ago
@dragonridley The roof is no problem , we got second floors and are build of stone also . The roof is most times builded from stone plates .

@peterkuhf
So such a house could probably fare fairly well in a low to moderate EF3, but a high end EF3 or stronger would still probably inflict serious damage.
