  • In wrestling the guy who is on top makes the player on bottom carrying all his weight. There is also no gi involved. So, no way to get out this way from a wrestler pin, and if he is a competent catch wrestler, will look for various submissions, too.

  • he sounds like the doctor from the movie Knocked Up. The one that says "wow you do look a lot like your sister."

  • Honestly I have alot of respect for Mr.Owen and Sub101 but this is not a wrestler side control. If you go to any submission wrestling school or Catch wrestling school the first thing you learn is pinning . Its constantly talked about that the hips should be lowered and the weight is on the other guy . The way BJJ controls side is usually this , on the knees . I like BJJ but Even Pablo Popovitch talked about the difference when I trained BJJ at his school . Wrestling + BJJ = Beast .

  • @1madinjun You've been dealing with some pretty sad Jiu-jitsu apparently. I've never seen any decent BJJ guy try to control an opponent from the knees in side control. The white belt in the video doesn't count, BTW.

  • wow thank you...this works

  • is that gsp?

  • I am # 1!

  • what if the person is heavier. also, the reason why people push the person's head down is so he can't punch the guy down in the face if his head is on the chest. i don't know how he can do a arm bar.

  • @tredub91 This is BJJ, no strikes are allowed and the groundfight goes on indefinately. From that viewpoint he's right in saying you never should do that.

MMA speaking, what he says you should *never* do, is an opportunity to push your shoulder into his face or throat, and hold them down so you can relax a moment while you wait to be stood up, and he's not getting all the air he needs. From that point of view it's not so bad. Just never ever make the grasp on your own arm get broken.

  • @tredub91 What you're talking about is not what Keith is talking about. You're talking about controlling is head downward to avoid being punched but keeping your own elbows in a safe position. What Keith is talking about is hugging to stall and exposing your elbows which exposes you to his use of the gi for control of your arm and an eventual armbar from that controlled position. Two different things. If the person is heavier, sometimes you wait for the right timing to catch him off guard.

  • i'm number one! keith ownen is fantastic

  • i'm number one!

  • will totally use in future

  • kid at3:06 looks bored

    i'm number 1!

  • any1 else find it funny that they have 420 videos?

  • @saberman41 I think a whole bunch of people did find it funny but then soon forgot, got the munchies and started watching our videos again ;-)

  • @Submissions101 lol eddie would be proud about how many videos u made :)

  • he's a great teacher

  • The wrestler needs to drop his hips to apply proper pressure

  • this is dumb all you have to do is duck under when he cross faces you and your in position in for an arm triangle..... basic wrestling

  • god he comes off so condescending. im not taking anything away from how good he is, but i wud just hate to have to learn from him day in and day out.

  • @luchador1764 I have the privilege to be able to learn from him day in and day out. Obviously he's confident but he's also honest and open to every idea. He's truly an outstanding teacher and friend. If you have the opportunity to visit the Boise, ID area please stop by. You will feel welcome and respected.

  • @luchador1764 are you dumb? i would give your left arm to train with keith owen..he brings so much knowledge and to me seems to have fun doing it.....if i had the chance i would be there every day..cept i live in the u.k..o'h well!!

  • I just wanted to say as a wrestler you might not exactly when he goes to im # pose but point is this is just understanding the use to making space and understanding position. I feel that he did a great job for this position but there is many kind and this is just one look, I feel that best to understand as a wrestler we reach alot and the armbars keep flying.

  • Is there any kind of problem with falling into a darce choke using this. I know that there are always counters to counters, but is it a concern that you should be concerned with, or is the constant movemnt make the darce an extremely low percentage option?

  • darce happens when the guy on the bottom has the underhook. Keith has no underhooks here.

  • This is a very basic but very effective technique, provided you are into "pain compliance" techniques. I rated it 5 stars, because it does work well provided. Just a hint: when you say "I'm number one", you probably dont wanna point your finger, and jam your bicep under their nose, then tense it an push up under their nose for a better assist.

  • this video should be called:

Keith Owen on: Im number one

  • Comment removed

  • that's not "wrestler" side control a wrestler T's off and throws a half or a claw not just holds like that all weak and queer haha and you don't reach and hold the far arm like that you always trap the one closest to you in wrestling so this is inaccurate and I think they are retarded for putting wrestler side control maybe a scrub wrestler but not a good one

  • calm down...lol

it's called an over-under gable-grip, bro. really powerful grip. you can hold up to 400+ pounds(at least) of force. and what is a half or a claw? i'm not a wrestler, but i do know that wrestlers use and gable grips:)

  • He could call it pumpkin pie, it doesn't matter. If Keith Owen wanted you back in his guard, you'd be back in his guard.

I bet if we got out a protractor it wouldn't actually be a 45 degree angle either.

  • I like how this guy knows more about side control then a high level bjj black belt.

  • I like that!

  • @ 1:24 keith has a good armbar also when he starts to escape

  • unless your number one =]

  • exactly my friend haha

  • Holy shit they gave -8? wtf

I guess a lot of people dressed in gi's got kicked around a little too hard lol

  • keith owen is a great teacher

  • What!

I'm sorry to inform you sir but this has to be inaccurate. For you see; I am number one.

  • Should I say that everytime I do the move?

  • @iwanttofight69 haaaaaaaaaaaa,i was thinking the same thing........

  • @iwanttofight69 No just make vicious eye contact and speak softly

  • what if your #8 or 9......god i suck. Thanks Keith

  • grab him for ears

  • Continue please... ;-D

  • wow this would be a lot easier than the jailbreak lol

  • yes..yes it is..i have been trying to do the jailbreak over and over again...this is so much easier

  • I started using this in class and accidentally said "I'm number one"

  • Haha not only did you escape side control, you made your opponent feel like a number 2 afterwards hahaha

  • @msyms11

    LOL!

  • lmao nice.

  • @msyms11 You might become number 1 if you keep doing it.

  • @msyms11 Man I lol'ed very hard indeed.

  • haha! "it's called a trend...not coincidence".

  • I'm # 1!!! wooo! 45*

  • Good stuff... like always! tks Mr. Keith

  • I'm number one

  • Much better to grab the far lat and try to sweep. As soon as he bridges you can mount him.

  • aye???

  • @desdavis When Keith bridges, he's open to being mounted. As he says, it's bad to have the arm over his head if you can't get infront of his face or under his arm. Instead of bridging though, it's safer to grab the far lat of the guy on top and sweep.

  • good
