  • 20 people dislike this, means they are pure heartless.....music is divine and is connected to the soul of the heart.

PARVEEN SULTANA JI I SALLUTE YOU......! you made our INDIA proud

  • I don't quite think she is THE Queen. What about Kishoriji?

  • No , It's Not a music associated with Hinduism. It's hindustani (Indian) music , meaning, from 'Hind'- thats 'Ind'ia- That has come from the word 'sindh'- a famous river of the Undivided northern India. One of the earliest civilisations known grew along the bank of 'Sindh', as was the usual in the primitive river-based societies of the world, later expanded and came to be known as Hind or India in english. So Indians are called Hindusthani and not because of the religion. So follows the music

  • i cried. this is beyond beautiful.

  • what is the instrument called you hear?

  • I've never really sat down to listen to Indian classical music before. This is really lovely, mesmerizing. She has a beautiful voice.

  • Kya Baat Hai!!

  • um is this connected in anyway to Hinduism? I need to know, so if you know the answer, please reply!

  • yes it is connected to hinduism!!!

and it is hindusthani traditional music!!!

  • @kpallimnt

Hindustani classical music tradition was nurtured through the years by both Hindu and Muslim musicians. I dont think it can be classified as Hinduism or Islam.

  • nice culture of pak and india

  • is this raag aiman?

  • It's more like Hindu.

  • Begum Parveen Sultana- Oh its a very big name in classical music. I was very fortunate to have met her when I was a Bank Manager at Linking Road Khar Mumbai and she had account with us jointly with her husband Ustad Mohd Dilshad khan. I had opportunity to know then nearly. What a beautiful couple devoted their life for classical music. Begum's bhajans were very touching and in real life also they are devotees and godfearing people.Very generous for charity.

  • It is indeed Maru Bihag.

  • Begum Parween Sultana is the best. She is is aptly reffered to as the queen of classicle vocal.

  • its the best way to relax one's mind

  • I don't think any vocal line I have ever heard comes close to the beauty of the one in this piece.

  • Finally a face to that beautiful voice.

I've been listening to her for years.

    Defintely my favorite brain massage.

  • Is this Rag Yaman?

  • It sounds like Rag Marubihag to me.

  • Maru Bihag it is ... beautiful

  • absolutely amazing!

  • It's khayal.

  • in english that means: Do not you speak badly of what do not know.

  • Let me correct you: In English(a diferencia del espanol, se empieza con mayuscula) that means: Do not speak wrongly of what you(si pones el pron. relativo al principio es para pregutar) do not know. (teclado ingles=no acentos)

  • Thanks you for translating

  • This is really interesting. Grown up with popmusic from the start (60's), now i become interested (because maybe bored from what i already heard?) in other music and i hear this is very special and so this is one legendary singer, i appreciate it and like to be introduced first with the best of this kind of music. Thank you very much: i feel it extends my life. ;-)

  • Maru Bihag. She is the first I have heard to do such a beautiful Raga Such justice. She is the Queen for sure. Wah.

  • Amazing Lady Queen, wonderful voice, merciful concert what a gift. Open your heart to feel and understand. Here is now place for logic, only soul can reach and heart can feel. Be blessed for puting this video on UT.

  • I am a westerner -- an American. It is true that I have never been exposed to this type of music, and so I think I don't fully comprehend it, it is so different to me! i listened several times. I finally shut my eyes and listened to the entire piece a few times and that was a good experience for me. I appreciated the tones and range of scale more, and I felt at peace and my mind felt relaxed and calm as I enjoyed her music. Thank you for posting for us.

  • fleecyboy, you may also want to try this, if you go to 'BBC Urdu: Sayan Bina' in the youtube searchbox. It's Shafqat Ali Khan at his best. Try also his 'Ishq Anokhri'.

  • student- ahhhhhhhhhh ithin mokakdha okey thiyena loku kajja ahhhhhh ahhhhhhhhh ahhhhhhh witherainey..

teacher -no you idiot it is notes..not "ahhh"..

    good luck

  • i love it

  • my god..her vocal range is amazing...i wish i had a range like that!

  • Her voice and pitch are so pure it makes me tingle!

  • I am unable to hear this wonderful music in continuation how to coment?

  • its the purityof the notes she sings and the timbre of her voice, not to mention over 4 octaves of scale. Thats all!

  • I don't understand this music at all. I listened like.. three times trying to understand what the hell was going on. She's just improvising when sh sing right? Uhh..nvm

  • you r right, what is special abt the music is the improvisation and within the framework what different and unknown kinds of improvisations one can make by variations of volume and tone. Her voice here is surely not the best of what I have heard but what is she special about is the high pitch that she can go to with elan without making any differnces with the frequency, just watch the video on Gurji Todi available at the site and u will see a glimpse of her voice in her prime.

  • do you have even he basic knowledge of hindustani classical music? i feel same sometimes with the western music. i do not understand rock, jezz and all those shoomy music which are popular in west. first you have to understand raag and Taal system only then you can enjoy indian music

  • Sorry but I really don't agree. I adore classical indian music and I don't have the faintest clue what raag and taal systems are.

  • shoomy? whats that mean?

  • gorgeous!

  • Such incredible music. I cant find cd of Parveen Sultana or NIna Virdee for that matter. Where can you get cds of these two? Does anyone know?

  • darbarlounge com or senseworldmusic com

  • This music isn't something to be listened to in the background. I have never heard indian music before. But obviously, it is the centerpiece. I had to close my eyes and concentrate hard to hear all the different notes. When the song was done, I felt more relaxed than I ever have before. Thank you for this video. Wonderful!

  • Kya baat hai! Lajawab.

  • really flawless . amazing inflections

  • niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

  • absolutely gorgeous, lovely voice.

  • wonderful video.. pls post a longer clip.

  • She is the best !!!!

  • more types of such videos should be uploaded so that people may delve deep into the vagaries of indian classical music. And parween sultana is a respected name india. One needs lot of concentration to understand it but so is the joy.

  • she is good!

  • verry nice namaste

  • Amazing...

  • i really into music but i find this type of singing a bit hard to listen to. yet she must be very talented from the comments about her. So good on her

  • dear emily!it shall be a lot easier to enjoy as well as appreciate such type of music if one has the knowledge of such genres of arts. this is true in my case.

  • Thanks for this excellent video. No doubt she is Nr. One in India. So nice to see her on video, I never saw her at performance. Please upoad more.
