Albert Von Schweikert (lead guitar) and Karl Lamp (collaborator) wrote this song in 1967. The Raven was based in St. Pete, Florida and had a #1 hit with Calamity Jane in a few markets across the US. We backed Sonny and Cher and Neil Diamond, and also opened the shows for the Yardbirds (later to become Led Zeplin), the Who, and quite a few others from the 60's. To see more photos and information about the Raven, visit the Facebook pages of Albert Von Schweikert, Marc Maconi, and Paul Purcell.
@hifiguy247 cool, thanks for commenting & the additional info, i'll check those photos out over the weekend, was hoping to see some, would have included in video if i'd had them.......still an excellent song & popular, original 45 appears on ebay a few times a year, there's one on now at $300, finishes in two days......
Hello all, I am the lead singer on this recording. I haven't heard it for years. I lost my only copy back in the 70's. We recorded it in 1967 in New York City. We were from the Tampa Bay area. I am wondering how it came to be posted on a couple of utube site's. I hope everyone like's it, Hey, I'm up for a reunion tour! Mark Maconi
@mwmskm thanks for commenting, still an excellent song & sought after....original 45 appears on ebay a few times a year, there's one on now at $300, finishes in two days......this copy was a vinyl rip from an original, but i think it's had a vinyl reissue in recent years as well, were you not aware of that?
Excellent record from late 60's. In the style of The American Breed, brassy rock n' roll. does anyone know The Raven, the keyboard guy was at my home about 30 years ago. forgot his name.
Such a great song. Reminds me of how music used to be back in the days. Check out my video of Rock Island's-Blue Blue Lady for another rock n'roll band from the 1970's.
This is absolutely amazing!
