Girl Talk is one guy who mixes songs on his laptop and comp system. Ratatat are actual musicians (real instruments), whereas Girl Talk uses other songs and artists to create something else . . . sometimes unbelieveable.
I don't think you realize how much mastery goes into the blending of these remixes.
Sampling takes so much creativity and skill. It's not just copy/paste work, it's an artist's attempt to bring different sounds together without sounding irrelevant. It's damn hard. I've tried it.
You're kidding yourself if you really think that mash-up artists don't qualify as an "actual" musicians. Get REAL.
not when you have a mixer lol, it does take skill but more like more time then anything, but he should make his own beats that would impress me more, this is more about just matching bpm more then anything else

The skill is not so much the blending as it is the artists' selection of recorded material to make each mash-up track. Like you said, Girl Talk uses pop songs that everyone already loves to make his music. His talent stems out of his ability to make it coherent.
not really, matching isn't that hard, trust me use djay for mac's if you can match the bmp you can have a decent sounding song, he just actually takes time in choosing what to do
because they use other peoples beats and cannot make money from that dumbass. it's not that hard do you know how many little dj's who do mash up's there are, a lot, most cannot get the right samples, obviously if you have the cash to get teh software needed to remove the backing or vocals its easy as hell.
Mash-Up artists don't pay the artists they sample from. They are covered by fair use laws. You are allowed to use tiny bits of copyrighted material without paying up.
They sure as HELL get money for what they do. There are a lot of independent mash-up artists and it would be easier if they had the right software but you're missing my point AGAIN. Mashing up tracks itself physically might be easy, but choosing what songs to use/when to layer vocals/beats is a skill, it's an art.

Girl Talk is one guy who mixes songs on his laptop and comp system. Ratatat are actual musicians (real instruments), whereas Girl Talk uses other songs and artists to create something else . . . sometimes unbelieveable.

I don't think you realize how much mastery goes into the blending of these remixes.
Sampling takes so much creativity and skill. It's not just copy/paste work, it's an artist's attempt to bring different sounds together without sounding irrelevant. It's damn hard. I've tried it.
You're kidding yourself if you really think that mash-up artists don't qualify as an "actual" musicians. Get REAL.

not when you have a mixer lol, it does take skill but more like more time then anything, but he should make his own beats that would impress me more, this is more about just matching bpm more then anything else

The skill is not so much the blending as it is the artists' selection of recorded material to make each mash-up track. Like you said, Girl Talk uses pop songs that everyone already loves to make his music. His talent stems out of his ability to make it coherent.

not really, matching isn't that hard, trust me use djay for mac's if you can match the bmp you can have a decent sounding song, he just actually takes time in choosing what to do

because they use other peoples beats and cannot make money from that dumbass. it's not that hard do you know how many little dj's who do mash up's there are, a lot, most cannot get the right samples, obviously if you have the cash to get teh software needed to remove the backing or vocals its easy as hell.

Mash-Up artists don't pay the artists they sample from. They are covered by fair use laws. You are allowed to use tiny bits of copyrighted material without paying up.
They sure as HELL get money for what they do. There are a lot of independent mash-up artists and it would be easier if they had the right software but you're missing my point AGAIN. Mashing up tracks itself physically might be easy, but choosing what songs to use/when to layer vocals/beats is a skill, it's an art.

uh i know they don't pay them i was saying they can't make money because they didn't make the actual music they just put it with a different backing or a different vocal. and yes there are fair use laws but girl talk definitely uses more then the allotted time under those, hustler music in the first song?, way long vocals. and i never said that matching up the right sounds was easy i said being a mash up artist is, and that what we were arguing, but obviously you are to dumb to realize that.
