  • Brilliant! Chico Pinheiro is an amazing musician - what a great context this is to hear his music!

  • Beautiful , I''ll like so much big band sound ; great musician, great player, great music. I'll wish all the best. ciao George

  • looking forward to you live..

  • I like big band and bossa nova, but also funk and things like acid jazz. I think this is really cool; do you have any CDs or the like?

  • Thanks !

  • Nice video. Now Im headed to check the tour schedule to see if they will be in Ohio!! Im goin.

  • @gohuskies583 No Ohio any time soon for the Bob Mintzer Big Band. Where are you located?

  • TK, wendholt, mosello in the back.

  • @trane1959 Mosello?

  • @JazzVideoGuy that's not mosello next to TK?

  • @trane1959 From left to right: Scott Wendholt, Tony Kadlek, Steve Hawk, James Moore. Steve and James are based in Pittsburgh.

  • That's a great big band, and I like the piece which they were rehearsing. Thanks for posting this, Bret.

  • @gsco82 Look for the recording to be released next Spring. And more video from the session coming this winter.

  • Thank a lot, Bret (JazzVideoGuy?) I think your name was quite familiar as a journalist for Down Beat. I am a big fan of Toninho Horta, and as Brazilian jazz lover and player, I know Chico's projects were all great. Then, Bob's part in his latest album was very exciting. I communicated with Bob asking about this big band project, and now I am waiting eagerly for getting a copy of the CD.

  • @imanbs I'm waiting for a copy myself. The music from the session is still going around in my head, several weeks later. Appreciate the comment.

  • Takes me back to Quincy Jones and his "Big Band Bossa Nova" album in 1964. I was so excited to discover it! I have the CD version now. I'm very excited about this project. Also, I'm excited about getting a bossa nova version of my song "All My Life" produced and arranged for the Reach 4 Freedom: Heal Child Abuse Music Project. We need someone to donate studio space/time in the San Francisco area, so reach back if you have any leads. Happy Days! Val Oliver

  • @creatorsparrot That Quincy Jones record is a classic.

  • Excellent!

  • @fredjmp Thanks!

  • Great project, thanks for the video!!!

  • What a magnificent project.

    Congrats!

  • @hudsbass It's one of the coolest I've heard in a long time. The fusion of two very unique musical forms.

  • And one more thing, I used to hear my friends saying "Playing and listening to jazz is Haaard I'd rather go play and enjoy simple punk-rock music I understand" I think playing and be able to enjoy great jazz music is not difficult, but Mature for the first place. That's my opinion. No offence to any other styles of music.

  • Hey there, I like this video Immensely and I've been very touched by a message in the end of it, although I play extreme metal music on drums. I've been greatly influenced by jazz players (not only the drummers) and i think it's just great that you guys are able to deliver your message through the music to a younger guys like me. There are many different issues to discuss and talk about, but the comment section won't let me do this. Thank you again for your influences, they are really felt upon.

  • @Glath513 Keep listening to this music, watching these videos, and sharing your thoughts. Glad to have you on board.

  • wicked sound!

  • Thanks for posting awesome videos like this!!

  • @xeno865 Thanks for watching!

  • what a privilege to be able to "sit in" on these rehearsals. thanks so much, Bret! loved it.

  • Anyone know a good veterinarian?...........We are gonna need one cause these Cats are SICK!!!!! Thanks again, Bret for showing the net just how cool Jazz is. Not a chance of becoming Invisible!! Love watching Mintzer do his thing.

  • @LEARNTOPLAYCRAPS Thanks! And please, tell your friends.

  • Hey JazzGuy, you are nor invisible!! Keep the good job!! Hugs from a brazilian friend!!

  • @AndreNorbim Obrigado!

  • Wow, I really love the mixture of that big band sound with the clean, crisp sound of the guitar. I really look forward to more footage! You rule JVG!

  • @MrBHarber Wait 'til you hear when its mixed properly. All this audio is just from the camera.

  • LOVE the bari in this

  • Frank Basile from North Texas -- plays a lot for Sumlyan in the Vanguard band. He has a nice be-bop cd out -- listen to it. Obviously A Pepper Adams lover.

  • Peter Erskine! :D

  • Cool rehearsal footage and it was interesting to see the original guitar line and then the arranged version for big band. Looking forward to more!

  • @ZenSawTrombone Appreciate the informed feedback.

  • Great Video. My favorite part is when he said "oh" to talking to soon when they were recording the reverb.

  • man, thats one heck of a bari line. whats that guys name?

  • Absolutely amazing!!! Thank you for sharing!!!

  • @maisqpoesia9999lcg Believe me, when you hear this recording, it's going to be even better!

  • Is that A night in tunisia I'm hearing??

  • @Chibiharlz101 No, it's one of Chico's compositions arranged by Bob. But we're all influenced by Dizzy!

  • That was pure awesomeness. That guitar player, didn't he play with Esperanza Spalding?

  • @TwistedSpeech Don't think so, but I'll check.

  • @JazzVideoGuy Thank you. Are they going to put on album? If so, what will the band and album be called? : )

  • @TwistedSpeech Album will be released in the spring, untitled as of yet. More video, including performance video with high res sound, coming soon.

  • @JazzVideoGuy Cool. What will the name of the band be, or is that still up in the air too?

  • @TwistedSpeech The Bob Mintzer Big, a group that's been in existence for many years. Check them out on iTunes or Amazon.

  • Yes, Chico Pinheiro was Esperanza's special guest at some concerts at a tour she did in Brazil. You're right!

  • @infobraz There you go! Thanks for that info. Must have been a very cool concert.

  • @infobraz Hmm...I think he might have played with her on Austin City Limits as well. : )

  • That sounded amazing. Such great musicians. Love seeing the process of recording a Big Band.

  • @newnessmusic This is just a taste. Wait until you hear the recording!

  • geez.. that groove, and that drum sound, so round! Just love it.

it's not the first time I hear "writing charts", is that the same as "writing music pieces, like notation?"

    Portuguese here , sorry!

  • @StromboliKicks It's all right to write!

  • @StromboliKicks Yes, a "chart" is just another name for sheet music.

  • @garrettmillerdrums thanks!

...and I think I just fell in love for that drum kit! I need to listen one more time.

  • @StromboliKicks More Peter Erskine video comong soon

  • There's nothing like the big band! Loving Pete on the drums.

  • @garrettmillerdrums Peter Erskine is just simply an amazing drummer. There's a reason he played with Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson and Weaher Report and Jaco and so many others.

  • @JazzVideoGuy He's a true inspiration to drummers who love big band and there aren't many of us!
