  • Yes, since doing this video I did buy a splitting maul but now our log guy delivers the logs cut at a slightly higher price so much easier for us. Cutting wood/gardening beats gym membership any day and gives you a much better return!

  • Dude you're using a felling axe for splitting logs - get yourself a splitting maul then you might discover that log splitting really CAN be fun. But you're on the right path - I just pity those guys who spend money on gym membership so that they can burning up calories like a hamster on the treadmill, then spend more money on fossil fuels to heat their home.

  • What utter bullshit. Don't quit your day Job to make videos. First, spend the next 3 years studying how to make videos at the University nearest you and then have someone else make your videos for you. Get my drift? By the way, take lessons on how to use a sharpening stone. Only then can you call in professionals to deliver your firewood to you.

  • Nope.

  • What utter shite.

  • @Cuxham Why?

  • This is dreadful, just look at the state of the axe handle near the head to see how badly it is being used. Okay, do things how you want but please do not present this as the correct way to use an axe.

Just because you manage to get the wood apart doesn't make the method a good one!

  • The axe handle is maple wood so very tough - it seems to me you have not cut much wood if your handle has not suffered normal 'wear and tear'. I would not have put up this video if I only cut small amounts - the amount you see is what I have had to cut up most years. If you think your method/technique is 'better', then why not put up a video of your own? This is the whole point of videos like these...

  • What a terrible video.

Learn how to use an axe before posting so called "educational" videos.

Also, your woodstore is terrible too. How can you restock half way through if you don't have dividers?

  • Sorry but I don't think you know what you are talking about. My axework seems to work fine as I managed to split the whole pile of logs you see around me in this video. Also, the woodstore that you criticize has managed to keep our whole house heated for 5 years now. Obviously, it seems we have no use for 'dividers' when restocking our supply.

  • hi nice vid but i dont agree that wood chopping isnt fun i really enjoy using a axe to chop wood great way to release strees

  • Yes, I agree. I find some of the homesteading/self-sufficiency videos on youtube fascinating!

  • Its interesting how fascinating watching somebody else work can be.

Also it is nice to hear the guinea hens in the background.
