As you discuss this is perfect for tablets. But I'd hate this for my desktop. I don't know if you are familiar with the ASUS EP121 tablet that runs full Win7 with i5 Dual core and hyperthreading. That is awesome.

It is sad to see that Microsoft is taking this "simplicity"-road. As you said: They should make a OS for desktop with capabillity to touch

But dont forget that this is just a preview and not even beta- probably not even alpha but

I think microsft understands the need for a productive product desktop

and i think in this partener preview their mainpoin was that windows 8 is introducing a new formfactor and thats the tab and that windows 8 will run on all in someway based on how the user wants it so dont be dismayed as this is not final

It was the same when they moved from cmd to a GUI, everybody thought that this new interface is only for idiots who dont know how to use a pc and now everybody is using it cuz its just sooo much better than command line

Why not call it "windows scroll" honestly the whole conference is based on scrolling.. Goes to this app "sees him scrolling several pages" and look at this feature "scrolls some more" oh and wait even the home screen is based on scrolling... I think I'm going to leave windows for a better OS because Microsoft just takes a bunch of features in a can and shakes it well without any structure...

Windows sucks. It just gets slower and slower unless you spend a lot of resources on cleaning it up every now and then. My girlfriend, who barely understands what and OS is (mostly because she doesn't care), is about to have Ubuntu installed on her PC because it's more user friendly than Windows.

They are focusing on tablets because mobile computing is the future and Apple and Google have pretty much killed windows phone. They are going all in but I think its to little to late. I like windows 8 so far but it'll probably be behind once again seeing as how it doesn't come out til next fall

I think the future of computers will be mostly Tablets. I don't think PC's and laptops will go away completely but i do think Tablets will be more prominent. games like Minecraft will be easy to tailor to this but world of warcraft or rift not so much. however i think apps such as photoshop and web development will get a huge boost from this functionality.

Microsoft has set their focus on tablets because they lost the battle against apple at the computers. The software of Apple on mac's are ways better then the Windows versions. So i think Microsoft went in a good direction by focusing on the software for tablets.
