In one of my lessons, my teacher told me to suck up the inside ski so you would be able to lean more into the turn. Should I still put some pressure on that ski once I bring it up to my body?
@Mac4Life42 It's a lot harder carving clean turns on small ball bearing like snow, the skis will sometimes drift out. But if you can master this technique under difficult conditions, you'll be a skiing legend when you get back on to good quality snow. Where do you ski?
@elatemedia I live on the east coast so the snow is not that great here. However I am going on a trip to Colorado next month and I am hoping to see a change for the better in my skiing.
@Mac4Life42 I agree that carving is harder on ice, but people often run into problems on icy conditions is because they try to hold their extended position through the entire turn. You should extend at the beginning of the turn to get on a good edge angle but if you hold that extension through the turn by the time you get half way through your turn your edge grip will break away and your skis will start to chatter through the rest of the turn. Always in a constant state of flexing and extending.
@Mac4Life42 Watch elatemedia's "Advanced Ski Lesson #5.1 - Commitment and Softening." If you can master that carving on frozen granular and icy conditions will become much easier.
@YogisAAA Thanks YogisAAA, glad you like it. We totally agree, and that's why we've introduced video analysis to our iPhone apps - now you can film your ski buddies and compare it with footage of yourself, other footage you've filmed, or demos that come with the app. Added to that you can draw angles do illustrate points and all sorts. We reckon that this will be THE ski teaching tool on the slopes this winter, for recreational skiers and ski instructors alike!
Nice videos. It'd be great to see an advanced short radius from you (carved and with rebound).
I'm curious as to how many people encounter success with the app and truly improve their skiing, versus how many people think they've improved their skiing but are just pushing their tails around or have a basic stance/balance issue holding them back that requires in-person assessment. But I'd buy your app just for the exercise list (I'm always forgetting drills) - hope you port to Android!
Ive seen a load of Ski vids (including "Hi Im Ivan Badar"...lol). Actually this guy is very good.... A lot of ground knowledge and a lot of common sense Ski tech and Clever "how to" moves... Well done !. Ive skiid for years with Austrians and Italians... and im impressed, this guy actually tells you something worth listening to 10/10.
Great series of videos. Ive been skiing since I was 11 and now 52.Ski well but I took a lesson recently and trying to learn to turn both skis together. I notice he doesnt look downhill all the time as I do but his head seems to follow the direction of his skis. I learned to have upper and lower body separation. Thanks for these great tips!
Right on point, with exceptional clarity, making it easy for all level of skiers to grasp, understand, and apply quickly without the need for deep analysis.

I do think so. I'm a ski instructor as well and we should be an Example for the guests. But that's my opinion.

Mister Turner,
Where is your helmet?
flessenhals 1 year ago
@flessenhals Empty slopes, ski pro - I don't think a helmet is necessary in this situation.
