Crona is referred to in a term that roughtly means 'them' and referres to himself as "Boku' which is a self identifiying term used by both males and females. The manga author of this story made not knowing crona's gender a fun aspect of that character but you never really know what gender chrona is. The just use 'him' because in america there is no pronoun that can be used for girl or boy so they picked one.
