My sister's cat used to stand outside in his backyard and watch the pigeons from the back porch. All of a sudden, he'd jump up and run into the midst of them, just to watch them fly up and away! ("Wheee!") It's too bad she never got a video of it. He did the chirping noise, too; but only when inside watching from the window.
Whenever spying an (especially unaltered) male cat outside in his territory, he would "snort" at them. To hear it you would think he was sick or having a seizure! =^..^=
Oh that is one beautiful cat! Absolutely adorable little guy. Cat's are just wonderful, I've always loved them. I like doggies too but I am more of a cat person.
I've owned about a dozen cats (not at one time). I have two now. One for two years and a five month old calico. And she is the first of my cats to do this chirping habit. It is something and very cute. I wasn't paying attention at first and thought it was the birds outside!
I've never seen any other breed of cat do this, so weird. My 2 Manx do this too. I have 2 sisters, it's funny cause the one has no tail but the other does, the one with out the tail does this A LOT more than the one that has the tail. Any thoughts on this? btw, they are part Manx (obviously). I have the only one from the litter that was born with a tail. Cool cat.
I think they usually chirp when they see something they want that is out of reach. Our cats only do it if there is something very up high or outside the glass window they can't get to. It's adorable :P
@m3soohorn3y It's partly out of frustration (that they cannot reach their desired prey) and partly in imitation of the bird chirp -- a type of natural "bird call" or lure. It is a fallacy (mostly promulgated by bird-watchers) that free-roaming (feral, stray or indoor-outdoor) cats are responsible for decimated bird populations. Most cats would rather hunt mice than birds, though, if given a choice. Seldom also are they successful in catching them -- mostly birds are old, sick or injured.
Precisely the same sound my male Manx makes while stalking or prior to pouncing on things. His brother has yet to vocalize along these lines -- there's time, they're teenagers.
I absolutely love watching my cat do this. Sitting at the window making that chirpy sqwaky noise. She's a calico. I could watch her for hours, alwys makes me laugh. So cute!
LOL i love when kitties do that :) it's so adorable! i used to have an exotic shorthair that was orange, and every time he saw a bird in the backyard he would chirp like that :) it was so cute. he ran away when we moved out here though. :(
He wants some poultry for lunch.
