  • Maurice Colbourne, taken from us far too early.

  • First series was great but the second series descends into surrealism which was disapointing.

  • @TheSoulboy62 I Agree, the first series was brilliant but whoever wrote the 2nd must of been on drugs!!! Looks pretty tame nowadays, the Gangsters of today would eat this lot for breakfast!!! The end titles are the best,Birminghams skyline has changed alot since then but the BT Tower is still there.

  • ha haaa its still like this now in Brum, blacks and asians are now running the town

  • think the musics greenslade??? top series beeb did it again

  • Have now aquired the whole DVD boxset so I'll get to work on uploading them

  • @brunster64 bravo. i would love to see this again.

  • @brunster64 aren't you supposed to ask permition first, because of copyright ?

  • Oh this brings back so many memories of Brum in the 70s - thanks for posting!

  • Really liked this when it came out. I didn't know it was on DVD,i must look out for it.

I still have the paperback to the series and have never seen it for sale anywhere.

  • this was gr8 i was a kid when i saw this and i still remember it

  • Why on Earth is this not on Youtube? Americans would love to see it!

  • Thanks for posting - never knew this was now on DVD. One of my dads bosses (Graham Weston) had a part in the second series, from memory I think he got killed before the end of the series.

    Brings back memories.

  • I have both series on DVD. First one was good, but second was strange, although I sort of got what Philip Martin was trying to do. Still, it wasn't a patch on ITV's OUT.

  • TV drama today just pales into comparison.

  • its dated obviously but well worth checking out on dvd-the 2nd series is a bit naff

  • Grief, this takes me back. The series blew my mind back then, I must now track down the DVD.

    Thanks for uploading this! :o)

  • Not disappointed after a wait of 30 years, I posted the last comment too quickly and left out the word 'wasn't'.Both series of 'Gangsters' lived up to my memories. This is a very bizarre and unique series

'Gangsters' is still groundbreaking in many ways and the BBC hasn't ever really come this close to the edge in a television series since.

  • 'Gangsters' is possibly the most daring and innovative series ever on the BBC. It was never repeated and never released on dvd, so i had to wait 30 years to see it again. As as 10 and 12 year old it left a huge impact and I was dissapointed when I saw it again.

  • It was repeated on UK GOLD in the early 90s.

  • I haven't found this on DVD in the USA. I hear Paul Barber was in it (he plays "Horse" in The Full Monty).

  • The intro music to this show was wicked. I sampled it. I'll post the song as a video response. :-)

  • this takes me back. i loved this series as a youngster. play for today was a brilliant show and was responsible for some great entertainment. gangsters was the best of them all.

    r.i.p maurice colbourne.

  • Great serial, got the dvd, watched it right thru. Thanks for posting it.

  • titanb.....any chance you can upload some of the dvd ??? i would love to see a bit of gangsters again.
