  • This is iTable by Apple?

  • The musical squares are cute!

  • At least put a guy who can play the piano, that guy in the video SUCKS!!!!

  • @Diloman64 Thanks! Actually he's pretty good. The video was for a class project to demonstrate different aspects of what they keyboard could do - not to play a single song.

  • This is an amazing project, mad props are deserved.

  • @selfdstrukt Thanks for the positive thoughts. This was a school project made by a single person hardware AND software - a little more credit is due. It's nothing like the reactable - where do you see physical blocks or wave synthesis? Trust me, I know music very well. This video was put together quickly (a long time ago) to showcase basic functionality not to make it sound good. If I had a team of people with investment (like reactable does) maybe I'd have the time to do a proper demo. ;)

  • @selfdstrukt BTW, you're watching an old prototype video before things were more complete and you only highlighted one out of several applications that can be used simultaneously. If you want a better look /watch?v=8IPRES6WF50 although you probably wouldn't like that either since I'm not a company that can afford professional production. However, unlike the reactable - this isn't an instrument. It's a musical exploration tool; mostly for children.

  • @selfdstrukt What fucking dumb ass thing to say, this is an incredible project that you're trying to seriously talk shit about? Trolls will be trolls...

  • @FeeLtheHertZ I had to look up what trolls were because I have such a life, and enjoy myself so much away from my computer that I did not even know that I had so many replies to my comment. You know what most people do when they create something similar to other interfaces already available on the market? They make it superior to the products already out before publicly showcasing their idea.

  • @selfdstrukt Name an interface similar to this prior to 2007? 1) This isn't a product. This was a school project built by a single person and completely nonfunded. This video is an early prototype required to be posted and shown for the class. 2) Would you call every music touch application on the appstore a copy of the reactable? Music + touch doesn't = reactable. The reacable is a sound synthesis system that manipulates waveforms. The only thing in common is is music + touch.

  • @cerupcat I didn't realize all youtube videos are advertising quality.

  • @selfdstrukt What have you built lately?

  • @zeppelin67637 A Virtual Private Network incorporating over one hundred thousand subscribers across southern California. What about you??

  • that looks kewl. but its a bit glitchy at times.

  • Ipad times a hundred or so:p

  • I liked the approach of the musical squares to music...

But it seems to be a big ass, overexpensive, pretty, but nontheless a wasteful step sequencer...

  • @thehornypuppy Thanks, it's supposed to be 'big ass' so that it's multi-user and people can explore and collaborate on music at the same time. It's not just a step sequencer - each application can be used at the same time. It's not for making recorded music, but for music exploration and entertainment. Not all music is meant to be performed or recorded. ;)

  • @cerupcat I didn't said it was bad but i been thinking about this all day...and really the cube thing...could be used for making some great stuff. And i see it's editable on the go...i can really see myself using it as a plug in in FL Studio or Audition.

  • @cerupcat If for example...you could draw a line...in the squares stuff...you could probably make a section sound like a sequencer...and then use little squares to hit a bigger one in bassline fashion. A combination of the musical wong and squres...it would be awsome if you could load an audio sample on the squares, and since you can decide how fast it bounces you would only have to count how many measures you want that to be repeated.

  • My son would absolutely love one of these...do you have a parts list, and build info?

  • @glostaglio You can check my blog or nuigroup(dot)com

  • А где нибудь это можно купить или нет пока

  • ahh, reading back it looks like this was already covered. ahwell. Good experiment just the same :D

  • 1:37 - 1:41 : I thought it was going into the Back to the Future theme tune then!! XD

  • umm wouldnt you rather just play a normal one... i mean thay can be cheaper and your finger is less likely to roll and hit another note cuz when u press down it uses the other notes next to it to for like a PHYSICAL barrier so your finger doesnt hut the next note when u move it... this is pointless

  • @Fugalmonkey Thank you for your positive comments. This is what you call a 'proof of concept'. You must of only watched the beginning since I assume you're talking about the keyboard? There's several other applications. With that said, what type of physical keyboard can manipulate the size of the keys to match the user? That, in itself does not make it pointless. I imagine all the 50+ iphone/ipad keyboards are also pointless? This is not meant for live performance by any means.

  • I want to see Fur Elise in this Piano...

  • Horible delay

  • @Mikiztar Where? The keyboards have a ramp up so it may sound like a delay. The musical blocks are quantized and aren't supposed to play when pressed; they play on the next closest beat so they stay in time.

  • @cerupcat well, then its just bad configureation.

  • @Mikiztar Thanks, I appreciate your positive criticism. You can check out my newer videos if you want better examples.

  • @cerupcat Im sorry for beeing so negative, but it just seems like its really slow

  • @Mikiztar I don't know where it seems slow unfortunately. You may be confusing something being slow for how it's meant to be. For example, the menu popups are triggered by a 'hold' gesture and therefore that could be perceived as being slow (it's not meant to respond right away).

  • @cerupcat I think what Mikiztar was getting at is that in the video there appears to be a significant amount of instrument latency - i.e. the note sounds a good 50 or 100 milliseconds after we see the finger hit the key. In any style of music where rhythmic accuracy matters, most musicians would find this very hard to play.

  • @spazdor Yeah, video is a bit misleading. For example, the violin has a high ramp time on it. So it actually starts soft and gets louder and thus sounds like extra lag. The latency is around 20-30ms in this video and lower in my newer ones. :)

  • бред

  • appears laggy.

  • @vincentizghra It's an older version. It's much better now :D

  • @cerupcat dunno what it's supposed to do, with that latency anyway and I can hardly believe that you'll get it down to ~10 latency any time soon.

  • @vincentizghra Only the keyboard is time sensitive and it's not meant for live performance. There's about 5 other applications and none rely on time as they're more generative and sequential. However, I can get it to around 10-12ms. Not all music is meant to be performed.

  • I looked at the site for the software for this (been doing my research) and im not quite sure if i like it does it have the capability to control windows itself? just a question since youve obviously used it

  • @MegaFracture Yes you can control windows with it, although I don't currently have information about all that right now. You can go to nuigroup.com if you'd like to learn more.

  • @cerupcat very well, Thanks! It helps really, Im in the process of utillizing this technology with holographic technology to make it affordable

  • so can i run windows on it?

  • kinda looks like my old tv cause of the static

  • fun for a kid to play with

  • This is really cool--if you're into gaming come check out GreaterSO's videos. Learn how you can build your own home game center in the Atlanta, GA Area.

  • First it was the iPod Touch/iPhone, then the iPad, next the iTable, next the iFloor, and then the iRoad!

  • @kooldude619rey lol THEN THE IPEOPLE imao I see ipeople!

  • I can't find in the PDF what is used as a projection surface, it just says 'projection surface'. What material should I use? And do I also need a mirror inside to invert the beamer's projection?

    Thanks in advance.

  • imma get one of does

  • wow this guy's left hand movements annoy me.

  • iTable

  • @D5932

hahahhaa for real... might as well be lol

  • whoa mega iphone

  • looks like such a hassle

  • this looks so freaky old

  • Call 1-618-717-0026

  • This isn't novel but it's a superb implementation of existing technology. From functionality to the design of the applications. 5 stars for all your works on the TUIO table.

  • where is the projector inside or outside

  • @tobby2468 Inside

  • You still owe me one. Remember?

  • @cerupcat Should be, I guess. Cuz there's as good as no shadow under his hands.

  • @cerupcat for a start, u corrected his stupid question with a stupid answer, there is no projector.... touchscreen mean anything to you ?

  • @darklanky Thanks for the substantive comment. Actually, this IS using a projector INSIDE the box. That's how the image is 'projected' on the screen from underneath. Touchscreen describes the interaction, not how it's made. I made this myself and therefore know how it's made. ;) Enjoy!

  • @darklanky jez, lost an opportunity to stay quiet :)

  • @tobby2468 If its outside you'de see the shadow

  • its inside ... or hes hand will light up

  • A normal computer touchscreen can do the same thing, given the correct applications. The only thing that makes this appear somewhat novel is because a touchscreen (electronics) is approached as a table (furniture). But the underlying equipment is the same. Wipty-fuckin'-doo.

  • Most touch screens aren't multi touch though. Other than that I agree with you, it's the presentation of it which makes it novel.

  • чють не уснул пока смотрел...

  • is not a touch screen

  • the sequencer was pretty awesome i would like to play with that for a while :P

  • even he doesnt make music...this is ridiculous

  • While your unable to form a sentence.

  • so you are the musician on this video?dont be shyy

  • Do you know how to make a multi-touch display that can do all of that?

    Didn't think so...

He said that it can, meaning that it CAN.

He doesn't say that he's MAKING music...it's a test, get over yourself.

  • oh my god !!! a very tiny person playing with an iphone !!!!

  • HAHAHAHA MADE MY DAY..and its only 3 am so far xD

  • man stop screwing with the piano and play some zelda or something. mary had a little lamb, know what im sayin?

  • all apple product are based on existing but new technologies.

it's a collabration of different manufactures

Apple don't even have there own factorys!

    That simply how they work.

i personaly think it great, so many smal company make great things but don't get there way to the commercial market. Apple takes the best of all these things and make a product together with them. They don't steal or imitate. Trust me!

  • Honestly, i will punch the next person that gives all multi-touch credit to the iphone. I fucking hate apple. They use technology that everyone else has had for 5 years, mass produce it, and get all the credit for it. And MAC users are such noobs! Made one of these tables, very happy with this app. Thanks again seth! Can't wait for the audiotouch OS!

  • Of course. Apple didn't invent multi-touch. Jeff Han did and demoed it at TED in 2006.

Apple only made it more mainstream.

  • Actually multitouch research was being done in the 1980s. Jeff Han invented a particular technique, but not multitouch.

  • And jazzmutant made a multi-touch mixing computer before 2006 ;)

  • same here dude Apple will Die at the hands of Google Os :)

  • LOL ^^

it seems that you REALLY hate apple.

The only reason that i don't like them is cuz they jack up the price like crazy.... =.="

But I have to credit apple for making the ipod graphical interface well, but.....

    MAC SUCKS! ^^

  • I found many contradictions in your testimony.

1:How can you be so sure that Apple steals technology?

2:The technology used on Iphone is a way different from this table. Basically different technologies the same use.

3:There are a lot of companies that does the same thing as apple and you talk about apple this way because its the most popular one. So whats your point with this foolish comment? Show your useless feelings? Nobody cares!! You must understand that apple is just a company!!

  • World's Biggest iPhone!

  • exactly

  • I think that tactile response is a very integral part in instrument usage... Incorporate that and I'll drop a couple a couple ks something like this

  • yayee!

    its a Giant iPhone app!

    XD!

  • lawl xD

  • do you have one of them and if you do where did you get it

  • Multi-Touch can be used to make such amazing control systems!!! But, there has to be a very adaptive and scalable user-interface system setup to provide that control in an intuitive and easy to use way. You can see all my Multi-Touch concept videos at my channel: thenewtouch

    macslate blogspot com

  • this music app isnt the only app for a multitouch table...

  • waste of money my ass its like buying a table and a piano in 1 deal and for an easy price of just getting the supplies and learning how to build it

  • reactable

  • Reminds me of electroplankton...

  • Interresting but the best way to create shitty music... A very poor demonstration... It should be a musician !

  • Why don't you play some simple songs?

  • how do i do this, what do i need to learn?

  • If you go to nuigroup(dot)com you can find out how to build your own ;)

  • where ON nuigroup do i find it?

  • @mymorningzion soldering, light physics, carpentry, refractory physics, computer hookups, tv inputs, electronic know-how 6th grade and up logic, how to make more time and nothing else exciting to do

  • Awesomeness

  • Great work Seth, keep it up. Could you use audio-touch to mash-up beats and samples like a DJ.

  • Yeah totally! :)

  • I dunno, maybe it's because the video sucked for demonstration purposes, but I think the ReacTable is better, especially for music. It seemed to fiddly with the touch screen to easily create music.

  • Wow nice

  • SUCh a ballar. that would entertain me for................. a few days straight (hella better than CoD or any xbox live game)

  • i like piano and that table thingi, it is sick but definetly not better thatn CoD4 on the PS3

  • ...........why not xbox360.......

  • cause I hav a ps3 and don't want the XBOX

  • cause I hav a ps3 and don't want the XBOX

  • cos it's better to play online free than pay the monthly fees

  • yeah

  • lag is considered on your internet. Not the system. Unless the system has to powerful of a OS and the hardware can't handle it or just barely can.

  • unless your using dileup XD

  • where did you get that tabl from i want one

  • check out "microsoft surface computer" i think hes a game or idea developer for it or some.... see ya!

  • Amazing. You'll be famous dude. You should sell these things. I'll buy a couple!!

  • to use a monitor in such cases, it is almost impossible due to size of surface. For big surfaces : a beamer, for little one : a capacitive-tft.

  • how much did the computer costed??

  • how many inputs will it support? it looks to be quite a few.

  • Theoretically it'll support as many as the computer can handle. With a really great computer it could do 100+

  • But how many people have 100 fingers? or if multiple people all pressing hands thats about 10 people, and I dont think there is enough room for that, so it'd be unlimited, correct me if I'm wrong.

  • ive got a question:

how does it work that there is a realtime picture is it a beamer ore a monitor?

If it ís a monitor how does it work?

    Sorry fore my bad english

  • Uses a beamer.

    For more information, see nuigroup(dot)com/forum

  • yeah dude i know what u mean i did the same thing when i got mine bptmasscre

  • the sound is good on pron thts the first thing i searched on it

  • i want 1 were can you buy them from

  • OH MY GOD. Where can you get one of these??

  • ur prety smrt

  • Thats pretty impressive ^^

  • super super super!

  • wow psychedelic from 03:08

  • wow psychedelic

  • great work, respect

  • Thank you! =)

  • cerupcat i wood like to know how to get one or how to make 1 ???

  • go to nuigroup(dot)com to find out how.

  • cerup is the god of light.. how do you make such magic :P

  • Awesome job cerupcat!

    O'Malley

  • Thanks, I really appreciate it! =)

  • Nice looks promising! :-)

  • Always impressive!

  • Thanks daddyoli! =)
