I was born in Germany... we were transferred stateside before I was a year old and we moved all over the states. Third Culture Kids also includes those whose culture is some weird thing that only military brats know... a World not civilian but not soldiers either... but more like soldiers than civilians when military is you upbringing... like church.
I was born in Michigan to a Malaysian dad and a Singaporean mom and hold 2 passports. Never really knew where I was from and still don't. It's hard but I love being cosmopolitan :)
I remember when it was AFRTS and then it changed to AFN. I was raised overseas, but still lived in the US for some of my dad's duty stations...still a culture shock when you come to stay though
Yeah. I remember the culture shock of going back to the US. I had been living in Saudi Arabia for a long time, went to France, then back to the US where I was born.
what about "expat kids" you know the ones who move from country to country as their parents jobs change. and 3rd culture kid does not necessarily mean being born outside the country you have a passport of. it means that you have spent a portion of your life growing up outside your native country.
That's awesome that they get to stay in one place their whole life. Sure, it sucks because it's not America and it obviously can be hard going back [I'm not denying that at all], but I'm an Army Brat and I'm at my 9th school, and 8th duty station.

@Maniaclaughter I had the same experience in 2009. I had left the US in 2001 and really had a bad case of cultural shock when I returned for uni.

it sucks when your parents retire in the states and you want to go back overseas.

lol AFN. When I first went back to the US my cousins thought it was weird I wanted to watch commercials. I miss those infomercials on AFN

Not starting an argument here, but it's just a matter of opinion that "it sucks because it's not America".
