Please read the NOAA National Marine Fisheries Service regarding the problems associated with swimmers approaching spinner dolphins. I've lived on Lana'i for 20 years and we, unfortunately, have seen the dolphins pushed further and further out of the normal patterns of behavior due to increased pressure from swimmers. Dolphins come into the bay to rest... swimmers seeking a close encounter actually disturb this behavior (although this is not readily apparent).

@Marist83USA I live on Maui (31 years) so we just took the Lanai ferry over to Lanai from Lahaina, Maui for the day. This is the first time we had the luck of having the dolphins within swimming distance from the beach. It's rather common but we've never had the luck, till this time, again, after 31 years of trying.
