I feel somewhat insulted, 1: The orchestra had *NO* oboes?
2: He played clarinet and oboe part fused, leaving liiterally no space for air, I'm sorry , i don't care how well he might of done, but the unique sound of each individual instrument is important, Just sayin' He did great though truely skilled
Having said all this, you are probably right in saying it is a Bb instrument and, whatever key his clarinet is in, doesn't detract from the fact that his playing is still technically astonishing. The only advantage of playing it on a C instead of Bb instrument would be that he can play it in its original key without having to transpose the music up a tone and possibly into a more tricky key.
I think this is a C clarinet he is playing on (not the more common B flat) This would make the transcription from Violin to clarinet slightly 'easier'.
@MrLiqouricestick It's not a C clarinet. It's Bb. The C clarinet would be shorter in length and it would be a brighter sound. Also listen to how low he gets around 3:44.
@NickQue Yes the C clarinet is shorter than the Bb, but only very marginally so - it would be hard to tell without putting them side by side.- as with the A and B flat which are frequently interchanged - the A being slightly longer than the Bb. The C does also have a slightly brigher sound than the Bb as you say, but it is hard to make such a distinction without knowing the players natural tonal characteristics. An Eb clarinet is more obviously smaller and different in tone.
It's Bb clarinet Buffet crampon festival for sure, because I know Mate personally and I have already played on his clarinet so I'm sure what kind of clarinet it is.
@JesusTMD He is trying to sound like a violin on his clarinet. Which might be why his tone is like it is in this video. Personally I believe that he sounds great.
i just died and went to heaven!!!!! I'm crying!!!!!! I remember the first time I heard Charles Neidich play Zigunerweisen...spelling?... Amazing!!! Love when people say oh its not possible on the clarinet?? lol
the version of carmen (fantasy) played on the clarinet is much more atractive and sounds much more better than the version played on the violin. i like it twice as musch...at least:)
me fui totalmente de espaldas al ver este video.... sin palabras. es increible ver que otro instrumento y mas de aliento iguale el virtuosismo e incluso supere lo que puede hacer el violin....
Whoa! Thats amazing! He looks like he's hadly even trying, even in that extremely high register! Suh a deep, rich, full sound, I play flute but i think this is fantastic! 5 stars!
It's amazing he can do this, BUT WHY? I know this man is a great clarinetist, but why do all of these odd sounds, especially with such beautiful music?
@knutini, WHY? because he CAN! Those aren't odd sounds, he is imitating a violin, do you not hear it? He is experimenting with new sounds and I think it sounds very nice.
you can change sound of your clarinet by.. "changing your throat" or something along those lines. I only managed it twice and have never really been able to reproduce it. My teacher used to it pretty well, but nothing at this level.
do you mean like the same way you bend notes? that requires you to like pinch the back of your mouth into a vertical thing and it gets all weird, sounds like that but I havnt practiced it much
actually... it sounds very like a clarinet XD. If you really listen to string instruments they sound completely different, esp. when bow moves up or down. I play both so I know how they differ
Interesting arrangement...I don't think he pulled off the violin's double-stops so well, but it was a good interpretation for clarinet. Very mysterious.
Wah.. Is this Amati Clarinet model 615II Full Boehm system ? Can't believe it! Never seen any mouth piece, that can produce this much stable and free blowing with up and down high, low note.
Ya i know... but Julian Bliss wins age to playing ability capablilities. When he is Mate's age, there is no doubt that he will be the best in the world.
Mate Bekavac (born 1977) began his music career in Ljubljana with F. Trzan and D. Brlek. He continued his studies at University of Graz with B.
