Having said all this, you are probably right in saying it is a Bb instrument and, whatever key his clarinet is in, doesn't detract from the fact that his playing is still technically astonishing. The only advantage of playing it on a C instead of Bb instrument would be that he can play it in its original key without having to transpose the music up a tone and possibly into a more tricky key.

I think this is a C clarinet he is playing on (not the more common B flat) This would make the transcription from Violin to clarinet slightly 'easier'.

@MrLiqouricestick It's not a C clarinet. It's Bb. The C clarinet would be shorter in length and it would be a brighter sound. Also listen to how low he gets around 3:44.

@NickQue Yes the C clarinet is shorter than the Bb, but only very marginally so - it would be hard to tell without putting them side by side.- as with the A and B flat which are frequently interchanged - the A being slightly longer than the Bb. The C does also have a slightly brigher sound than the Bb as you say, but it is hard to make such a distinction without knowing the players natural tonal characteristics. An Eb clarinet is more obviously smaller and different in tone.

you can change sound of your clarinet by.. "changing your throat" or something along those lines. I only managed it twice and have never really been able to reproduce it. My teacher used to it pretty well, but nothing at this level.

Mate Bekavac (born 1977) began his music career in Ljubljana with F. Trzan and D. Brlek. He continued his studies at University of Graz with B. Kovacs, then took his MA degree at Salzburg Mozarteum with A. Brandhofer. He also studied in professional studies program at Juilliard School of Music in New York under C. Neidich and in 'cycle de perfectionnement' at Paris Consrvatory (CNSM) with Michel Arrignon.
