I have always wanted to see a bouncy ball launched out, not sure what velocity it could handle on impact though. You might have to try some hand loaded shells. :/
Pour some hollowpoint slugs into wood, I would be interested on seeing that mold. Also, could you cut some 1/4" steel bar stock into little cubes and load those? I've been meaning to test all these things but it's nearly impossible for me to get to the range.
@GozonTheGonsarian Good point. I would have to use my smoothed out stones cut to make jewelry. It would be less effective anyway because it is less dense then lead.

@FullmetaljacketJ Did it not enter your think skull that there is a possible that the monitor had stopped working long before it made it to the firing range?
@guydecervens I meant exactly what I said. All of these rounds have been around for centuries. Not to take away from these guys & I love the idea of spreading info to the general public. We used shotguns a lot. What country did you serve under? If USA, what was your MOS? I carried a Mossberg 500A1 religiously with 100 rds of 00, 25 rifled slugs, 20 Hatton rds, and a Glock 17L.
@guydecervens Just FYI, they're not experimental or new. They may however be "new" to the general non gun enthusiast type I suppose. These came about years ago from men who needed to literally knock doors off their hinges in seconds without killing everyone on the opposite side.
@DreamReaper338 You mean slugs aren't new? Of course not but a guy experimenting with different types of projectiles like this is always innovative and new and I respect his ingenuity. I must admit I am quite new to shotgun ammo experimentation. In the military we didn't use them much. As you say they are used mostly to take a door off the hinges
@dave4854 How do you think inventions come about? Obviously, you don't know anything about firearms & you're a big, fat vagina. Guns don't explode unless structural weaknesses are introduced (rust) or to large of a power charge is used. All they're doing is opening a shell, pouring out the shot, and replacing it with a wax/shot projectile. These things work phenomenally blowing doors off hinges with minimum or no collateral damage. Get schooled. "Have nice day!"
When I make handgun rounds I use hollow points, fill the hollow point with "Mercery" or "Acid" then flim over it. If your target does not die, he will die from poison very fast. Just an idea buddy... I make my own 12 gauge shells, I use small nails, just clip off the back end and sharpen it, it makes it deadly and punchs right through 1/2 inch of plywood. Im a gun buff as you can tell. Thanks for the video.
@xinebriated ... I was not trained in warfare to "wound" people, I was trained to do nothing but "kill kill kill" ... When I aim my gun, someone will die and it wont be me. Im all for guns and think every American should at least have a hand gun, long range scoped gun, shot gun and an assult gun... Never know when you made one of them if not all of them.
@Mr517519 So if someone is unarmed and threatening you, they deserve to die? I could see shooting an unarmed burglar or something, but with your poison bullets everyone dies. I am all for owning guns and carrying weapons but it does seem like some overkill. You were trained to kill people while in a warzone, real life is a tad different.
@xinebriated ... The military trained me well, we are trained killers and thats all we do in war is kill. We take no prisoners, we shoot them all... Anyone who poses a threat to me they well not be as lucky as I am. Poisoned tiped amno is fine, theres nothing wrong will it. Im a weapons freak and a perfect shot every time. Its my right to defend my life and those whom I love. I dont like all of theses "Turbin Rag Heads" moving here, they have a desart to live in and should move back
@xinebriated Stop! Take a deep breathe. Now, listen to yourself. Are you just a kid or a reh-tard? You never aim a weapon at something you don't want dead, PERIOD! Shoot to wound? That just means they missed. You watch too much TV. All ammo is poisonous, ever heard of lead poisoning. "You were trained to kill people while in a warzone, real life is a tad different." Realize how stupid that sounds? Warzones are as real as life & death get. Now, please slap yourself 5 times.
Those wax slugs will work at short ranges but will tend to not do so well further out as they start to tumble in the air. If you use a glue to keep the shot bonded to the shotcup it will act as an air brake and stabilize the slug much better. This will make it act very similar to an shuttle cock and give you better accuracy at longer ranges. If the shells don't have a shot cup it would be a really bad idea to do this though. Give it a shot, you may find you like it better than those wax slugs.
have you ever used a hollow point slug, fill the hollow part with pyrex and place a 12 guage primer on the tip and seal with wax. It's a very interesting round! ;)
hell yea great video. the chunks of lead you shot at the monitor are nasty those would tear you up inside really bad since none of them would exit you.
@TheAmazeingAnarchist I just re-close the crimp. I have also made a few where I cut off the top, set the lead slugs inside, and the poured the wax around that to hold it in place and keep them centered. The wax sort of works like a sabot.
@RCcowBoy23 Most of the stuff is broken items, stuff that did not sell at our own garage sales, or stuff friends give me to shoot. I usually don't destroy anything that has any value and were one step away from being thrown away anyways.
@taofledermaus awesome! i was thinking of either trading for a mossy 500,or cutting down my barrell as i dont hunt with it anyway, but i think im gonna make up some of these loads & give them a shot! thanks for the response bro!
have they tried using the wax slugs WITH the flechette? it can help keep them together and more accurate thus providing the penetration and stability, though without any spread.
That bolo round just looks ghetto, it's like the chain you use to connect your drain plug to the sink so it won't get lost. The mini slugs look pretty sketchy too. Try using a thick guitar string for the bolo, don't they use piano wire in the real ones?
i started loading my own shells recently. something that makes great cheap shot is steel bbs for pellet guns and slingshot ammo. one of my favorites is 1/4 inch steel slingshot ammo, which is basically steel #4 buckshot. in a 12 gauge shell you have to stack them in rings of 5, and you can get 20 in your standard shell.one of my most effectiv rounds is 10 of said steel shot, and then filling the rest with #7 lead birdshot as a sorta buffer. the group stays tight a good distance
The lead slug Idea wasn't Erics, they got a hold of the Idea and decided to film it, It's good they did that but as even they state it isnt their Idea.
Also you might want to switch to aviation wire for the bola rounds, those links are too weak.
I just made me an improvised shot shell. its birdshot on the bottom and mini slug over that. then another layer of birdshot and then another mini slug! I know it will be devistating to anything, but I really want to see it in slow motion!
I've been shooting them at old 25lb. plates that I don't use anymore, and they're pretty devastating I can hit my target from 50 yards 100% of the time.
They won't rival your Winchester Foster Hollow-points as far as sheer power, but they're just as accurate, and probably less damaging to deer meat.
100% perfect round if you ask me. Just make sure to shave any excess wax off of the shells before loading, and definitely CLEAN YOUR BORE after firing.
@CaliforniaCarpenter7 I have yet to shoot any of the wax slugs I made, I made dozens of them. Just haven't had the opportunity to shoot and film them yet. What part of CA are you in?
@taofledermaus A small town called Rail Road Flat, in Calaveras County. It's in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada's. Pretty far out in the boonies, but my back yard is my gun range, so it has it's perks!
@CaliforniaCarpenter7 I'm in a town called Visalia which is between Fresno and Bakersfield in the valley. I'm always looking for folks to work with and places to shoot that are semi-close.
Good Stuff thanks for the upload. I would love to see how IRAQVETERANS8888 wax slugs do. As well maybe you could show how the others do. Thanks again.
@glockman1727ak47 Thank you! I am dying to test the Iraqveteran wax slugs out. I'm trying to find some interesting targets to blast with them. (like books, 2x4's, etc)
@josephsaliba79 No, my shotgun barrel is still in perfect condition. Everything loaded in the shell stays in the cup at the end of the wadding so it never contacts the barrel.
Yes, a couple of my friends decided to load airsoft BB's in some shells and shoot them at each other at 75yds. or so with full chokes. That did not turn out well.
con you show how to fill rifle rounds? I would get to shoot my guns alot more if I dint need to pay $10 bucks a box, and show how to fill shot gun round. then maybe I get a new one :D
@blackhawk42x I use a small rod to pry open the crimp, dump out the shot, then use a pen to open up the crimp enough to place the objects inside. You can then recrimp it by pushing the crimp back in and pressing against a table or pushing it down with the end of a blunt object like a Sharpie pen.
hey, i've been watching your vids for a while, and my only question about the improvised shotgun loads is: is that legal? if so i'd love to make some of my own.
@thatkakashi1 A friend of mine said that flechettes might not be legal is some parts of the country, even though our flechettes were just unguided steel rods. They are pretty impractical and we just made those to see how they'd look in slow motion. Definitely check your local laws and use discretion.
@TheHiddenPart I've been sick for the last week so that slowed me down a little bit. A video shoot this weekend fell through (as they often do). Maybe we'll have some new shooting stuff in 2 weeks.
@VFXBishop You and me both. Gotta find some good targets to blast. Maybe some books and cinderblocks. I need to pick up some clay, people have suggested that before.
You can order 100 flachettes from cheaperThenDirt fairly cheap. Try a load of pennies or dimes. Great video cant wait for you to shoot the chain rounds they look nasty.
With some cheap molding sand, you probably can recycle old lead even into complex shapes like the good old brenneke slug i guess. Exiting video, thank you for sharing!
Hey Tao,I just saw this video from Iraqveteran8888,and he made these slugs of wax and regular birdshots. I would love to see that in slow motion! ( /watch?v=YBWWqXVbAfA ) I think you should check it out,and maybe some of his other videos,he seems like a really great guy! :)
I saw somebody mention dragon's breath in an earlier video. Do you have any plans for that? Im not even sure how to make it. I love seeing the destruction made by odd shells like these.
@taofledermaus I've been loading, for my own ammo, a cast Lee .69" lead ball over a wad with the petals cut off, or I found MidwayUSA was selling boxes of "slug wads", which is pretty much the same thing, but they were very cheap and a little nicer for it. I gave a few to a friend of mine, and he got two deer with them. They'll punch right through!
flechettes (pronounced flesh-A) are made using small nails with flat heads on them. you just take a hammer and flaten bother side for a simple fin, but the weaponeer flechette (you never test weaponeer ammo) uses the same small nail, but you drill a hole in a steel plate around double the width of the nail, and place the nail in the hole and force it through with a punch to give it the blowgun type fins, then pack half up and half down. the backwards ones tend to spread out more. works well
@weaponeer I pronounce it the "American" way.. lol (like donettes) We haven't shot since the last videos so the Weaponeer rounds are yet to be tested.
I have always wanted to see a bouncy ball launched out, not sure what velocity it could handle on impact though. You might have to try some hand loaded shells. :/

wont those rounds scratch the shit out of your barrel?
sk8erfreak9242 8 months ago
@sk8erfreak9242 No because everything is inside the plastic cup on the end of the wadding, so only the cup contacts the barrel.
taofledermaus 8 months ago 2
con you show how to fill rifle rounds? I would get to shoot my guns alot more if I dint need to pay $10 bucks a box, and show how to fill shot gun round. then maybe I get a new one :D
blackhawk42x 8 months ago
@blackhawk42x I use a small rod to pry open the crimp, dump out the shot, then use a pen to open up the crimp enough to place the objects inside. You can then recrimp it by pushing the crimp back in and pressing against a table or pushing it down with the end of a blunt object like a Sharpie pen.
taofledermaus 8 months ago
hey, i've been watching your vids for a while, and my only question about the improvised shotgun loads is: is that legal? if so i'd love to make some of my own.
thatkakashi1 8 months ago
@thatkakashi1 A friend of mine said that flechettes might not be legal is some parts of the country, even though our flechettes were just unguided steel rods. They are pretty impractical and we just made those to see how they'd look in slow motion. Definitely check your local laws and use discretion.

i've been missing your creativity.
TheHiddenPart 8 months ago
@TheHiddenPart I've been sick for the last week so that slowed me down a little bit. A video shoot this weekend fell through (as they often do). Maybe we'll have some new shooting stuff in 2 weeks.

@VFXBishop You and me both. Gotta find some good targets to blast. Maybe some books and cinderblocks. I need to pick up some clay, people have suggested that before.

where did you get the lead
KdrummerK 8 months ago
@KdrummerK The lead came from the birdshot that was removed from the shells.
taofledermaus 8 months ago
Please vid the making of the rounds, I'm interested in the whole process....and the destruction of useless stuff, oh yeah!

homemade ammo? you are so awsome dude!
Kingthug25 8 months ago
You can order 100 flachettes from cheaperThenDirt fairly cheap. Try a load of pennies or dimes. Great video cant wait for you to shoot the chain rounds they look nasty.
Xxoo0o0o0ooxX 8 months ago
With some cheap molding sand, you probably can recycle old lead even into complex shapes like the good old brenneke slug i guess. Exiting video, thank you for sharing!

Hey Tao,I just saw this video from Iraqveteran8888,and he made these slugs of wax and regular birdshots. I would love to see that in slow motion! ( /watch?v=YBWWqXVbAfA ) I think you should check it out,and maybe some of his other videos,he seems like a really great guy! :)
theKaarvaag1 8 months ago
@theKaarvaag1 And now I saw that I should watch the video before commenting.. But hey, great minds think a-like?
theKaarvaag1 8 months ago
jeff i think you should test out the wax slugs that iraqveteran8888 did.
MatrixOne976 8 months ago
you should try firing on of those long wooden cotton buds out of an air rifle, they're lethal!

Cool, I've always loved the idea of blowing whatever you have out of the barrel.

How about filling a shell up with broken glass or 1/2" screws/nails & shooting something soft & squishy?
SonOfAldabarran 8 months ago
I think it's awesome how you can load a shell with just about anything!
rahkshifan99 8 months ago
I saw somebody mention dragon's breath in an earlier video. Do you have any plans for that? Im not even sure how to make it. I love seeing the destruction made by odd shells like these.

Maybe try a shell filled with toothpicks against a piece of styrofoam. Or somehow making a shell filled with water sealed with wax.

It's pronounced Shoot-goon ..
come on if you are going to post a video, you should really learn every possible way to say every word you use so you don't offend your audience ..
Also using lead is wrong, and damages the environment, couldn't you use plastic (recycled) or perhaps aluminum (also recycled) for these tests??
GunWebsites 8 months ago
@GunWebsites I think that is either the Canadian or Wisconsin pronounciation... That's all I have to say abooot that ...eh.
taofledermaus 8 months ago
Can't you try a snug fitting big ballbearing ball? Or did you already do that?
BarneySaysHi 8 months ago
@BarneySaysHi I haven't found a ball bearing the right size. Most of the bearings I have are too large.
taofledermaus 8 months ago
@taofledermaus I've been loading, for my own ammo, a cast Lee .69" lead ball over a wad with the petals cut off, or I found MidwayUSA was selling boxes of "slug wads", which is pretty much the same thing, but they were very cheap and a little nicer for it. I gave a few to a friend of mine, and he got two deer with them. They'll punch right through!

that ball and chain one was cool

flechettes (pronounced flesh-A) are made using small nails with flat heads on them. you just take a hammer and flaten bother side for a simple fin, but the weaponeer flechette (you never test weaponeer ammo) uses the same small nail, but you drill a hole in a steel plate around double the width of the nail, and place the nail in the hole and force it through with a punch to give it the blowgun type fins, then pack half up and half down. the backwards ones tend to spread out more. works well
weaponeer 8 months ago
@weaponeer Interesting. btw they are not pronounced "flesh-A" if it's of modern French origin.
ireallyjustdunno 8 months ago
@weaponeer I pronounce it the "American" way.. lol (like donettes) We haven't shot since the last videos so the Weaponeer rounds are yet to be tested.
