Give it the Old Olympia Style with state-of-the-art technology. BUILD IT!!! Oh and yeah Dead Wings?? Really?? 4 cups, '97, '98, '02, '08; 20 straight years in the playoffs, one of the most successfull teams of the modern era? Umm yeah I'd say domination. Joe Louis has a great hockey atmosphere, but bad design. Expand Cobo in the Joe, raise the new Red Barn!!
i think it would be great to have a new arena constructed with a retro style exterior, much like the new MLB parks constructed in the last 10-15 years
PLEASE do this. Lots of great Michigan hockey memories at JLA, but I fear that the upper level is going to collapse that place is so old and beat up looking.
What should happen, is keep JLA up as a hockey museum and keep the ice rink up for open skate or youth games.
The area Joe Louis Arena is in is OK, I've never had a problem there. There is a loop of freeways around central Detroit bounded by I-375, I-75, and M-10. Most of the area in there is OK. The old location of Olympia Stadium is very rough.
Hopefully the Wings get their new arena. They are of of the very best sport's franchises there is. As a Flyers fan, I have to tip my cap to them. Detroit deserves a new modern facility.
Close a couple fire houses and police stations and layoff 50+ firefighters and 50+ police officers as well as closing 25 schools should pay for this building.

I think this is a great design. The red wings are one of the most storied franchises in sports history, our new building should reflect our foundation which is the old Olympia on Grand River. LETS GO WINGS!!!
@NewYorkFan1994SRHS No. Its an idea that a Red Wings fan put plenty of time into. His idea is to recreate a neoclassical style of arenas, just like is the case with baseball. I have seen his work and know it is a brilliant idea. And I hope that the NBA and the NHL appreciate his idea.
I think they should renovate the JOE, I think this "barn look" is crap.
