  • its a beautiful thing

  • this guy is soooo groovy

  • Love the kind of beats he's doing on the bass drum.

  • Awwwww... who da man? You da man, Stevie!

  • I HAVE SAID IT FOREVER....ITS WHAT YOU DONT PLAY! GREAT GROOVE

  • sounds like sex

  • I think his left shoulder is like a foot below his right shoulder haha

  • @et720 thats because hes playing traditional grip

  • just gorgeous

  • Gadd is a genious!

  • Very cool

  • fuck yeah thats what its about:P

  • Gadd makes me dancing!

  • good)))

  • Paradiddles???

  • Sounds easy?!?!

  • best timing

  • For me, the thing about Gadd is that he makes listening to funk drumming enjoyable. He makes music without a group behind him. I'm not usually into traditionally simple snare on 2 and 4 deals, but he knows how to embellish the hell out of it.

  • anyone who claims this is "sloppy" drumming has absolutely NO CLUE what in the hell they are talking about. HE IS THE GRAND MASTER PEOPLE! Plus just actually take some time if you want and listen to some of his recordings with Stuff and Steely Dan and many others. DUH! Steve Gadd wrote the book idiots!

  • I guess people now days can't appreciate this type of drumming. They think "Oh this is slow and simple, he sucks", and then they go listen to freaking shit that doesn't make any musical sense and call it amazing drumming. Gadd is a true master.

  • if you like steve and this style of drumming you should check out my past drum teacher - gary chaffee

  • Hold on let me stop laughing long enough to tell you about this SLOPPY drummer here. Steve Gadd isn't just a Master, he should be put in the category of GRAND MASTER. Since he is literally a flawless, heavenly skilled artist.

  • It's hard to believe that this guy has his haters. The best example of pearls before swine, I guess.

  • damn this dude is a bob ross on drums... so peacefully!

  • i can listen to this stuff all day!fuck guitar and vocals!

  • lol so truee mannn

  • @scottslovegun i agree with you and i AM a fuckin guitar player and singer HAHAH!!!

  • @scottslovegun touche

  • man, just makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. no flash needed. just thick, juicy groove.

  • na dude not sloppy at all lol

id admit if it was but u doesnt lose a beat whatsoever

  • wow gadd's trad is held all the way back

  • oh yeah, so so sloppy. I bet you could do better. hahaha

  • Sloppy?? Really, you posted that?? Streaming issues with your internet maybe? Bad ear? I don't understand what your talking about...at all....crazy

  • These solo's are just as good, if not better, than all the showoff crap!!!

  • yes.

  • so smooth, just great.

  • word

  • just grooving...

  • Groovy

  • I love the snare sound!

  • Can someone please tell me the basic sticking of the first part of this groove?

  • @loosenutlambert

    RlrrLrrL / Rllk(r+k)_Lr / rl(r+k)rLrrL / rllkR_Lr

Seems to be the very beginning, in groups of eight. I think it's correct, but you never know. This is a real pain in the ass to transcribe, but yeah good luck xP

  • @trizzHHS @loosenutlambert

If you go to drummerworld and look for steve gadd and then look for his pocket groove there is a transcription already done. Learn it, be awesome.

  • Groove, groove, groove. He is the master!

Chops don't mean a thing if you can't keep good time and groove.

  • One of the best. Remember drummers "less is often more."

  • Dio Esiste!!!!!

  • I like that crash, ride...

  • It is an 18" Zildjian K Custom Session Ride. Hope this helps.

  • FUCK that was nasty.

  • fuck you if you don't like it becaus he's your lord ;)

  • Dude, nasty means good. Chill :-P

  • you can hear Gavin Harrison is strongly influenced by this....

  • Alot of drummers have been influenced by Gadd almighty.

    Including yours truly =D

  • I drum for Gays, pro-choicer's and Satan only! And once for Richard O'Brien!

  • once you have moved beyond the veil of religion the world opens up to you.

It's ok, Maya has it's funny ways my friend, as plant once sang

"all will be revealed" soon enough.

  • haha, nobody has any idea what you're talking about, except maybe us Jedi in cloak.

  • Groove has been lost somewhere in between speed and chops. That's why a lot of the "busy" drummers are in the umemployment line.

  • This is a classic example of Gadd's unbelievable sense of phrasing. It's an 8 pattern, but it's got an odd time feel to it. I learned this, recorded it, and I sounded like shit. Gadd's so f-ing greasy. (bows head in reverence)

  • You hit right on the head. Steve has a feel that is unique to only him. Though many may emulate none will ever duplicate

  • Fear not, we are all individuals who have our own interpretation of beats. Gadd might have a time sounding like you!

  • So far this is one of the best, unless the best drum groove I have ever heard!

  • man that was seriously tight

  • sooo much feel!!!!!

  • When Gadd talks about his playing, he talks about music, feels and groove. He hardly ever mentions technique. This leads younger drummers to believe what he does isn't 'technical'. He is, of course, being modest, to become as clean and simple sounding as Gadd takes 1,000s of hours of practice. I'll take Gadd any day of the week to the likes of Jo Jo Mayer, no disrespect to him, but Gadd makes making music his main goal, not having the fastest this or that.

  • same goes for mayer, plus that he's frikkin' fast. It's just a totally different kind of drummer. Doesn't make neither of them a "more musical" drummer, in my opinion.

  • AGREED.

  • oh. my. gadd. that was amazing, lol.

I love that snare drum, it sounds so colorful

  • Dynamics dynamics dynamics.......so simple

  • So good yet soooo smooth. played very beautifuly.

  • Good drummers have volume control. As in this piece...and rythm of course.

  • This is simple rly...but to get tht groove n feel tht he has, it wud take us decades

  • It is actually simple and its not really hard to play.

To make it sound good is the hard part. Gadd is 'good'. Its extremely difficult and takes 10's of thousands of hrs to get 'good' on the drums.

  • this is just the real legend playing, sounds simple, but it's so hard to play.

    Brilliant

  • Yeah you're trully right, but... sadly people (specially beginners) start to think Vadrums is better than any player who plays with feel. Ow, the humanity.... :(

  • yea well most beginners learn in the end.. if they stick to it and dont get sucked into all that speed & tech paranoia. He is my favourite drummer by far.

  • this is the drum sound you want if you want a HIT record. I'm sick of all these players that just wack off on the drums trying to be faster and busier! Wonder who gets more work??

  • man was born in the pocket

  • steve gadd is a true master
