  • D2Xs is a better deal than a D7000

  • search utube for - Nikon D7000 mirror stuck, the dreaded "ERR" code!

not my video but shows the problem a lot are having .....

  • you should be happy, my D7000 stuffed up after 3 months, err shutter dead and no stock of parts to fix it and no new cameras to chance it over, 20days no camera :S

  • thats what you get when you are shooting with a prosumer camera

  • Nyhkon?

Maybe solve your problem with the custom button, mate.

  • Nothing beats Canon 7D in ergonomics, it may not have as good low-light image quality as the D7000.

  • Also, since your point is about non-fluent shooting. . . . . that spot makes it more easily accessed vs on the top opposite the LCD where it is on the 700. Now you just have to slide your hand back, and can support the "hevy lens" (whiney face) and use your thumb to push it, instead of having to move your hand all the way up and over the top of the camera. You are wrong in every aspect of what you say here. So, um.... duh again. A pet peeve of mine, how over annunciating you are in this video.

  • Hey bud, no Nikon camera EVER has had the ISO button next to the LCD. Also, EVEN WITH the D700 and D300, you had to use your other hand to push the ISO button..as it was opposite the LCD on the top.

Just saying. I'm sure you made this to get hits on your feed, but at least have something constructive and CORRECT to say. And for the record, you pointed at the LCD three times. This tells me you obviously don't know your Nikon gear. There's no ISO button there on the 700. or the 300.... Duh.

  • Same on the D90. If you wish to get around this problem, why don't you just program the Auto-ISO according to your preferences? The 70-300 that you got on is a VR-lens, so you aren't really that dependent on fast speeds at the long end. If you're shooting people you wont go below 1/50 s anyway due to motion blur.

  • D90 has this problem :s

  • Get over it.....Canon is better anyway. I hate Canadians anyway.

  • are you doing coke again????, you were doing soooooooooooo well when you were in rehab........i wish i had a toilet made of gold.............

  • Change your Custom d3 setting to Show ISO/Easy ISO and you don't need to press and hold the ISO button. Just swipe your thumb.

  • you shares similar facial expression with snapchick when talking. hmm. :O

  • "I haven't said anything negative about the D7000 yet, so maybe I should do a video with a nitpick just so I don't seem biased. Yeah, I'll just pick something incredibly stupid to grumble over instead of something legitimate like the placement of the audio jack, which is way too low where it is."

  • Just do the following: Custom Settings Menu (d: Shooting / display) - d3 (ISO display and adjustment): Show ISO/Easy ISO

And you will have the ISO control by JUST TUSRINIG the mail dial. It will be MUCH more usefull then a dedicated button. I own the D300 earlier and I know what I'm saying :)

  • Just wondering why you need to change the ISO so much.

  • This guy is so full of CACA..

  • Hi Matt,

I just bought my Nikon D7000 just body only and I'm looking to buy lens one for low light and zoom to shoot weeding, and the 2nd wide angle.

Would please suggest me any good lenses.

Thank you in advance for your help

    Best regards

    Noe Palacios

  • well yes and no, program one of the function buttons, or make use of the auto iso? yes auto iso. look at it this way, in the field you are constantly working the magic triangle. Iso will always be the last option. Remember film? swap out to a higher iso roll or decide to push process.

Getting to know the auto iso limit settings is the key. My niggle, is that when you switch to manual the auto iso is disabled...

  • Why don't you just set your function button to ISO or set the ISO instead of the frame count display. This way you can adjust the iso from the rear wheel. This video makes you look silly !

  • That can get tiring, I agree.

  • Shooting situation??? EVERYTHING is a situation :D

  • @zoedimax56

Only a moron would make such an ignorant statement. Have a nice day.

  • @zoedimax56 cool story, tell me more

  • @zoedimax56 Your mum

  • @zoedimax56 & canon for retards.

  • ASSIGN the Fn button to do ISO

  • Are you gonna be changing the ISO every second? Didn't think so.

  • You can change it to easy ISO so that all you have to do it roll the the thumb wheel.

    RTFM.

  • your a stupid fucking douchebag and I hate you and everything you do. block this account to bitch, ill make more.

  • nigga please !

  • You look like Jason Kidd.

  • @enjoykenny lol jason kidd

  • hahhaha D7000 owners

  • Comment removed

  • Nikon need to sort other things out with the ergonomics of their camers. When reviewing photo on back of thier cameras they have the file number and date displayed! Canon display the F stop and shutter speed ,far more useful.Get your act together Nikon.

  • your thumbnail make you look like a short dickhead.

  • @BerkeleyBuilt yep, you gotta be like what.....12 yrs old or something? Only a 12 yr old would find something so nitpicky to make a rude comment like that....try to hold your p's and q's....you will grow up one day!

  • @sdalpaca stop being such a vagina.

  • It's Nikon, not Nykon...

  • @WilsonMackle101 It's Nippon Kogaku

    not Nickon.

    Nip-on Ko-Ga-ku

    Nih-k-on.

pronounce it properly. you wouldn;t say N-eye-pon.

Even the Japanese are insulted when its pronounce Nickor or Nickon.

  • @Tehn00bifierer If that was the case then it would be pronounced "Neekon"

    Weeaboo detected.

  • @WilsonMackle101 Yes, because I am of Japanese father. Piss off, It's called fucking respect. I show it by pronouncing names properly. Nick-Or sounds like saying the N word with K's Nikkor. nikker. nig- you get the idea. It's stupid.

    haters going to hate.

  • @Tehn00bifierer You didn't change my point... You're still pronouncing it wrong.

And your father is Japanese? You did seem the type to have a small penis.

  • I got a Pet Peeve... sometimes I've accidently rolled the switch dial from M to U2 and then it ended up shooting JPG...

  • The ISO button on the D700 is on the top left side, not top right.

  • Set the programmable buttons infront to ISO

    problem solve!!

  • What the heck. You don't need to activate the ISO button to change the ISO. Simply move the command dial and it changes the ISO!!!!

  • i agree, im glad u pointed this out.

  • I don't even get what the hell this guy is talking about. The ISO button on the D700 and D300 are on the top and left hand side

On the D3 its a button underneath the LCD. None of nikon's pro bodies have one handed ISO change

  • don't you got any thing better to do? why would you waste your time to talk about a button?

  • set up the function button and delete this video, you have the button rigth there but you don't know, ask someone before making a video tutorial

  • Really.... You took the time to make a whole video complaining about a button...

  • or you can just set the function button to ISO and use your right pinky to set the ISO.

  • @ETeeskiTutorials That is what I was just thinking--Several of the buttons can have their functions customized, but whatever. To each his own.

  • @ETeeskiTutorials This does not work. The camera would be perfect if you could map ISO to either of the extra buttons. Even the D40 has the ability to map ISO to the Fn button. People have been working to hack the firmware to provide this, but I don't think it will ever happen. Easy ISO is the closest thing, but it's still not full manual, which is stupid on a camera this level.

  • Is that lense to compensate for distant or something else?

  • @fatchickendance - Distance, and as for something else, well, it's all about size.

  • D3100!!!

  • What kind of a Lens do you have on the Camera?

  • My 1st DSLR was a D40X then upgraded to a D300S, sold the Nikon and purchased a 7D, much better camera, Nikon is great but I just HATE their ergonomics, canon is way better for me, 7D is just too heavy so I sold it and got myself the Pentax K5, excellent well built camera for half the size and much lighter couldn't be happier and the pancake lenses are just so good

  • There's an easy solution.

Agreed that the ISO button is better placed on the top where the metering button is, however, you've missed a nice feature of the D7000.

Under menu item d3, you'll fine 'Easy ISO'. Turning it on has two benefits:

    1. You can see the current ISO in the viewfinder (instead of frames remaining),

    and

    2. When in Aperture mode, the rear sub-dial can be used to change ISO at any time (no other buttons to press). Conversely, in Shutter mode, the front dial does the same.

  • @voirphoto - Wow another camera manual reader!! Some folks however have not moved on past AUTO point and shoot.

  • @123pfflyers some folks actually have IQ a bit higher than their shoe size number..

  • @crazyasspusshole - Truth is always stranger than fiction, and so life goes on. By the way, is the setting for higher IQ in the D7000 instruction manual? Oops, I'm afraid not.

  • button placement is a little awkward on the D7000, took me a looong time to adjust to it since upgrading from my initial dslr (d3100, much more practical button placement), nice thing is the fn button which you can assign iso to is placed practically so problem solved.. the whole point of owning a dslr is you customize it to your needs in nearly every aspect.

  • @3antaralhatab - This is true and also true that you are probably the only person who has read the camera manual. Thank you for this solution.

  • Video ends at 0:47 for all of you who don't give a damn.

  • I JUST WANT THE DAMN INFO TO STAY ON...........

  • Yes, that is kind of a nit pick... I have a major gripe and that is AEB which is really weak on the D7000. I will have to keep my D300 if I want to auto-bracket 9 frames (for HDRI) compared to the D7000's lowly 3 frames.

  • NIKON DOESN'T CARE ABOUT YOU...

  • @Estipics Actually I think they do ! Nikon as a company does products for costumers. You know what that is ? thats you me and this guy, they want as many ppl s possibly to like it's products or they won't sell any. Maybe you would understand if you take a course in economics and marketing, but what can you expect from a youtube troll !

  • Which lens is it in the video?

  • I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but a nice "workaround" to this if you shoot in aperture/shutter priority is to enable the "Easy ISO" setting. This way, the unused scroll wheel will become the ISO. E.g., if you're in aperture priority, your shutter scroll wheel will become ISO adjustment, and in shutter priority, your aperture scroll wheel will become your ISO adjustment.

  • Another reason why this video is really stupid, have u ever heard of Auto ISO? Maybe one should learn before making stupid videos... As Ken Rockwell puts it, "I use this all of the time, unless I'm using manual exposure mode. Auto ISO is a crucial component of Modern Exposure Technique", "This is one of the strongest reasons I prefer my Nikons to my Canons, which lack this critical feature." If u shoot w/ such lens and u need to be changing ISO all the time... U dont know what u doing!

  • @tiagomenezzes in regards to auto ISO, when you shoot in manual or priority mode you do it for a reason. Setting a fixed ISO is to get the most out of the camera. I'm only an amateur photographer and I would like an easy ISO button on the right and as I don't use the function button that much I'm going to assign it to ISO, a great idea....I'm glade I thought of it..!!

I'm tired of hiting the wrong botton

  • @doocolla Once again I say, if u photograph w/ this lens and u have to change ISO all the time, then u dont know what is ISO or u dont know what u doing. Back in the days, photographers would put a film w/ a certain ISO in their cameras and would photograph to the end of that film, no ISO button! And, u call urself "only an amateur". So, if pros are saying that "Auto ISO is a crucial component of Modern Exposure Technique", maybe u should listen. Get to know ur camera and what it can do for u...

  • @tiagomenezzes Canon have auto ISO but why should you use it? How is using automode a critical feature? And what have that typ of lens to do with ISO? I Always shoot manual, and manual ISO, works great for me, and I would hate to not have my ISO-button on top, I work allot with the ISO and i would never use the automode, I like to have full control on my camera! If you know have to use you camera you don't need to use the auto-mods!

  • @jamiev4 I have to agree w/ u, noob! LOL

  • This is really ridiculous. Any good photographer will always have both his hands on the camera, specialy for stability. U can use ur left hand to press the ISO button and then the right hand to spin the dial. Use both hands, thats what u have them for! Now, u want to compare this w/ a 60D? I have huge hands and still, I have difficulty switching a Canon On/Off because of the awkward position of its button. Nikon is all about usability, once u learn to use it, try to go back to Canon!

  • o yah, matt thats weird. my nikon has a multifunction button for iso that i change with my left thumb near the lens release.

  • I agree with you, a bit annoying ...

  • I agree with you, a bit annoying ...

  • sorry bro please check again the ISO button on the top

  • I have a fix! Under menu and custom setting menu- d3 to be exact. Choose iso display and easy iso option. Now you can change the iso setting with the command dial without taking your eyes off the view finder. Let me know if that helps

  • Dude you look 10 years younger with the low cut!

  • music video shot with d7000 go to (Dzmac hustlers way) on youtube you will see what your camera can do.......

  • Get a Pentax K-5. Same sensor, better sensor performance and the ISO button is at the right place.

  • I'm very new at this, but I'm looking to shoot a small promo video on a white backdrop just like ytou did. What is the lighting setup to achieve that look? (high Key)

    Thanks

  • What about the hot pixels issue??

After seeing all your reviews about D7000, I really want to buy this one. But am worried about the hot pixels. Please help. Thanks.

  • Guys: (option 1) go to Custom Setting Menu, select d3 and either select Easy ISO for S and A shooting modes (back thumb wheel will adjust ISO setting in viewfinder), or (option 2) select Show ISO sensitivity at d3 - with the ISO in viewfinder, I find it easy to feel the ISO button (2nd button up from bottom) with my left thumb without taking my eye from the viewfinder. I can now tweek the ISO setting with the back thumb wheel, no problem. Hope that helps.

  • Well arent you just a complainer

  • The D90 is the same

  • is just me or is this whole boring video just to show his big new lens.. because he could do that only with body, and we could actually see how camera looks

  • you have a huge lens hood for your sigma 70-200

  • Change the ISO display and adjustment on Custom setting and choose Easy ISO. Now you can use to front and the back dial whenever you're on S or A mode for ISO adjustment.... makes life easier... :)

  • Thankyou!!! I agree 100% I am considering trading because of this placement. It is horrible in tense shooting situations! ISO is most important button on any camera!!!

  • Which lens is that?

  • I agree Art like all cameras nothing is perfect, for me the ISO button was not the problem it was the power input flap by my little finger I have fairly large hands and my little finger tends to slide below the grip when I hold it in portrait when I bring it back it would keep flicking open the rubber cover i now have a battery grip but also as I will never use it i spot glued it down so even without the grip it stays put.

again only a minor niggle but then I have yet to see the perfect camera

  • This camera sucks, it back focuses and the photos coming out of it look boring and flat. I switched back to my D200 and am going to sell this pos camera.

  • @TheHolyMongolEmpire No IMO the DK7 not a duffer and I too have had a D200 which was well made but the metering was way below the DK7's and the cmos showed its age lacking the crispness of the D7K, as far as back focus I have not had a problem all I did was calibrate my lenses which made even my old Bigma pick up a notch or two in performance.

Its a more complicated unit than the D200 & the D200 was much better built but sorry the DK7 leaves the old D200 in the dust for image performance

  • @trackend

I agree, in low light without a tripod, the D7000, kicks the D200s ass, but if its good lighting and or you have a tripod at night, than the D200s images just look better to me. Theres a glow about them that makes them feel real, while the D7000 images just look dull and have lost their glow.

  • I have D90 and it has the same layout. I can't say this bothers me at all... If you know what you're doing it might take you literally 2 seconds longer to change the ISO. but hey to each his own, but i REALLY REALLY want a D7000!

  • Go to custom setting d3 and turn on "Show ISO/Easy ISO" and you can step through the ISO with the main command dial. You can see the results in the VF and the top LCD, and you can keep the VF to your eye (no button combo). Simple. RTFM.

  • program it to a function button..

  • I tend to use Auto ISO quite a lot, limiting the MAX ISO to like 800 so that I don't run into noise issues, but I agree that sometimes you need to change ISO on the fly and it is a pain, especially with a larger lens on the cam.

  • actually if ur using it on A,S mode u can adjust the ISO using the shutter roller if ur @ A mode.. and if ur @ S mode u can use the aperture roller to adjust the ISO. u can enable those from the menu setting..

  • ohh what a problem ,,,,!!!

  • @alagha1989

It is, its a pain in the ass.

  • Oh, I never thought of this issue. I guess it's because I'm used to the ISO button being on the lower back of the body on my D2x. This was actually an improvement for me...

  • which lens is that on ur d7000 at the moment?

  • @FMKrack

    70-200 Vr 2

  • what a lense

  • Agree 100%. 1) the ISO button would be better if on the top, like the 300S. 2) I L-O-V-E my D7K. And I have 30+ years of SLR experience...

  • Dude this is really not an issue. I like the place where nikon put the ISO button. I think Canons have it in a weird spot. But maybe if you have bigger hands then me a canon might work, but for me canons dont works because of the buttons on top of the camera. For me its not possible to hold the canon camera with my right hand and at the same time operate the ISO button. Thats why I like my D7000, just operate the buttons left of the lcd display with your thumb.

  • i dont find it a problem honestally shooting day or night.

but i primarly shoot action sports

  • I agree. For us manual mode users. Better placement of the ISO button is key.

  • My biggest pet peeve? You can assign video to card slot one or two, which is all fine and dandy, but when you fill up card one for example, if card one is where video is assigned to go, it doesn't automatically switch over to slot two. Nikon really should address this in a firmware update...

  • Comment removed

  • Didn't read through all the comments. But I know in Aperture priority mode, the rear dial will change the ISo setting without any button push. Haven't check Shutter priority mode but I would imagine the front dial will work the same way. In manual you are forced to do more work. I have not used Automatic since I bought the camera a week ago so I have no idea how the dials act in that situation.

  • Im not sure about the d7000 but on my d5000 you can actually arrange different buttons for diff things .. and i have it where my ISO button is where the timer button is because i never use timer photos.. so usually when im adjusting my settings both hands are on the camera so all i do is push the button right behind the lens and its easy to access and quick..... if the d7000 offers that.. try it..

  • well that was a complete waste of my time

  • I have a nit pick with it to: I dont like that Nikon didnt put an exposure bar on the secondary screen.

  • I love your reviews bro! I'm definitly getting my D7000 very soon, I have a sigma 70-300 (Looking to upgrade to Nikon 70-300 VR), I also have the 35mm F1.8 and the 18-55. Getting rid of my D40 with the 18-55 lens. And now i need a new zoom lens in the range between 17-70, i don't want the sigma. But i have looked at the 18-105VR Nikkor and the 17-50 2.8 Aspherical. Which would you recommend?

  • @tordern22 I have the sigma, and it is an amazing lens. the f 2.8-4 is very nice, and it is practically a macro lens. but if not the sigma, would say, if you have extra cash, and wide angel is your thing, go for the nikon 16-85.

dont EVER buy kit lenses. they stink to high heaven.

  • hey bro! i have the D700 and D300. They have the ISO button on the top, BUT the button is located on the LEFT SIDE!! there's no way to one handedly change your ISO settings!

  • Can you please add witch lens you use in your videos.. : )

    Anyway great channel !

  • You didn't know the ISO button was on the back instead of the top before you bought the camera. On the D90 you can assign the ISO to the front command dial. You can probably do it on the D7K as well.

  • can't you change the function of the FN button to be your ISO? I don't own a D7000, but on my D3100 I use the fn button for ISO... I used it on the D40x aswell...

  • My D7000 back focus under certain shooting conditions...can it be fixed?

  • nikon feels like a brick in a hand, buttons are located to make camera look good, but useless, try k-5 how it holds and feels

  • @KVSKPrasad Dude, you just embarrassed yourself:) You definitely don't know Nikon cameras. So read this carefully: YOU CAN CHANGE ISO WITH THE BACK ROLLER or YOU CAN SET ISO MENU TO THE FRONT Fn BUTTON.

  • I wish the autofocus in LiveView mode didn't suck so much to the point of being unusable.

  • The solution is simple, BUY CANON!

  • @ventje500 He has the 60D

  • @ventje500 Canon sucks even canon japanese maker use nikon over canon for photography, why do i know cause i use to work in canon for 15years in tokyo japan....

  • The ISO button placement definitely isn't great... But with "easy iso", it's a minor problem imo.

  • Comment removed

  • you have the set up i want!! im hoping to get the D7000+17-50, 70-200! how are you liking both these lenses for the 7000, any problems yet?

  • This is just a feature carry over from the d90...nothing new or not thoughout from Nikon

  • Well you can assign Fn button for ISO I think.

  • Should be remappable like on the canon

  • I totally agree. I love my D7000, but the ISO and WB button placement on the Canon 7D are much better.

  • Totally agree.

There should be a way to assign iso to the fn button.

  • I agree about the button too and also i want to know why nikon dont wipe my ass for me ....... get a grip

  • What kind of lense is that?

  • but on the d300,700 the iso buttun is on the left side so its still a 2 hands thing.

  • I agree with the ISO to be on top!!

  • You can choose to set ISO directly with the back roller (aperture priority mode for example) - excellent feature! So the ISO button on the left side is a small problem only with full manual mode. And how many guys do you shoot on full manual mode? ;)

  • OK all, here is the SOLUTION to this!!! exempt that this only works In Aperture priority shooting mode. Now Press MENU > d. shooting/display > d3. ISO display and adjustment > SHOW ISO/EASY ISO press ok. And there you can control ISO by rolling on top of the camera with you thump, but only in A mode I believe, other wise it adjusts shutter speed. hope this helps!

  • @bratvlad it works at Shutter priority mode also but by rolling the fornt control )) So yap its not a pet peeve at all )))

  • Comment removed

  • Agree 100%. I keep hitting it too soon with image preview on and zooming in on the image.

I'm surprised to hear you say something negative about the D7000. ;)

  • I was gonna ask if you can assign the FN button to ISO but someone said no

Well I guess we gotta wait for a firmware update or something

  • @lilr89 you can... but it does not work as the original ISO button. You can go to menu- My menu - add item ISO sensivity. Then assing FN button to: Access top item in My Menu. And basicly pressing the FN button you can change ISO on your screen. How ever you cant change ISO with roller.

  • @akaANUNAKI

    awww

They should have done the FN button like how they did it for the D40X

You press and hold it and the info display pops up

with the ISO highlighted and ready to be changed

  • @lilr89 well with the setup like i showed earlier it works like that, and it is done by 1 hand so pretty quick... but still, if lens is not too heavy its alright ISO button to be at the left side of screen. And rolling up&down ISO sensivity is much quicker then using arrows and ok button.

  • I have to agree. I love my D7000, but it seems very awkward to take the camera from my eye to change ISO in manual mode. Nikon should allow the function and/or preview button to be programmed to control ISO. This would help tremendously. I know this camera is not marketed as pro-level, but it should always be about the ease of taking great photos. This is the only minor issue I have. Aside from that, my D7000 is wonderful!!!!

  • I agree. It's quite troublesome to always gauge if its the ISO button I'm pushing. Still. Love this cam.

  • @wewyllenium - Oh, I totally agree! LOVE my Nikon D7000! :-)

  • My pet peeve with the D7000 is that you have to use the screen when filming which makes it hard to zoom in and out without shaking the camera. Has anyone figured that out yet?
